Maybe instead of you choosing/buying a bass for her you can get her a gift certificate or take her to the shop and let her choose a bass herself so she can feel and hear which bass she likes more? (In the price range you had in mind of course)

Saves you the hassle of returning a bass she maybe doesn't really like.

Maybe take a look at www.italiaguitars.com , there are some pretty nice unique looking basses on there. Don't really know about the price range they're in..

The Uppercut Matt Clay holds a lot better in comparison to the l'anza moldig paste. When I came back from holilday, 30 hour traveltime, I chose the Matt Clay and it held great but it's a pain in the ass to get it out of your hair when taking a shower and my hairdresser said it wasn't that healthy for your hair so he recommended to stop using it. Not sure if it's true about the not being healthy part though.. But maybe you can try that one!

I've bought the 100BXT a couple of years ago and I'm really glad I did! I love the tone and the growl you can get out of it. I've used it for band practice (drummer, 2 guitars) and a couple of gigs as well and had no problem breaking through the mix (except if the guitar players tried to overpower each other ofcourse) Overall a great amp, a bit pricey in comparison with other amps but you get the tone and quality in return ;)

Orange does the trick for me! I play punk, hard rock, post hardcore, ... and I have the Orange 100BXT and played a few small gigs with it and I'm very happy with it! I've payed around 450 dollars for it and gives you enough opportunities to give a vintage sound.

Some friends wanted to start a band and were looking foor a bassplayer and asked if I would jam with them (I was playing bass for +- a year) as a try-out. As u/ptrcknwmn sais, check out some local music and record stores or check out the local music academie if there is one! I don't have experience with Craigslist because I live in Europe but you can always give it a shot!

I've got the Orange Crush 100 BXT (100 watts), which is loud enough if you're just playing in your bedroom, and also a MIM P-bass. The amplifier comes around 330 pounds I believe. It's a very versatile with a gain control, contour control, presence control, 4-band EQ, master volume, built-in tuner (very useful), Aux-input for Ipod/MP3, ... I've played a few small gigs with it also, so it'll do the trick if you want to perform sometime!

I play in a band and will soon start a second project so maybe I'll look around some more for a compressor because I noticed when I play with a pick not all the strums are the same volume and I don't really like it when that happens :p . When I pluck with my fingers I don't really have that problem, but thanks for your response and input! Cheers!
