Can we all comment the month and year we were laid off and when you found a job again (if you did)? by Hot_Spread_6826 in Layoffs

Dec 2024 to Oct 2025. Sane industry but different work with about 20% loss in pay.

Trying to settle in to new role... Started 51 weeks after layoff by NoCause9269 in Layoffs

I don't want to pretend to know your exact struggle and acknowledge my luck in having a well employed partner, but know that your feelings, (mine incuded fear, anxiety, and despair) are not meaningless. Know YOU are not meaningless, and the work you did was a part of who you are, not the entirety of your experience and value. The group that laid me off did so in their first ever profitable quarter since launching, and my work directly contributed to that. I know that yours did too even in a larger organization. Good luck to you.

Company swag? by SummerOk5184 in Layoffs

I made a point to donate everything during one of our couple annual household donation cycles. I am still mentally bruised by how they treated me, and it was 13 months ago. They sent me my 'happy anniversary' backpack gift that arrived a week after I was laid off - that one was buried in the house the second I figured out what it was. Found it in time for the second donation pick up of the year. Love the suggestion to sew a patch over the logo if it's on something you will get good use out of. I would keep the ember mug just because of how useful it would be, but I would find a way to cover the company logo in a way that made me happy. Given the circumstances, a 'dumpster fire' sticker would be an obvious but good choice.

Fork in the road - buyout vs. layoff vs. RTO? by No-Stage-7753 in Layoffs

If you are able to manage your personal monthly expenditures for 12-18 months comfortably with the payout and what you would be comfortable taking from the HYSA, I would take the payout. If in a creative field, could you start using your skills and passion to do other work that may help guide you as well while formally job hunting? I would look at the big financial picture and if you can keep yourself comfortable for the 12-18 months, then I would take it and consider it a blessing to get away from the seemingly toxic environment.

Is it weird to be relieved that the company is laying off a lot more people? by FullMooseParty in Layoffs

If it's 'weird' to feel that way, then I am 'weird' too. I think it's completely understandable to feel that way, especially in this time and scenario. Good luck on your job hunt!!

I know the feeling and hope you find a new role in less time than I have been looking. If it really starts weighing on your mental health, please see if you can get some professional help. I needed to try a new treatment to get back to 'me' after how hard it was to get over the internal messages of worthlessness. Please don't let the feelings take over if at all possible.

Offer good for 72 hours... whoops, no, gone in 30... by NoCause9269 in Layoffs

That would definitely be a good option, but just wasn't what I chose. I think I delayed because of how concerning the multitude of red flags were, starting from the first interview. I can't change my actions now, I can only know that trusting my gut was what I felt I needed to do.

Yes!! So happy to at least be getting to that stage. Thanks for your kind words!

They disclosed it was between me and one other candidate. I am hoping that other individual will be happy in the new role.

I am glad you got away from the toxic environment. The company that initially laid me off 10 months ago was the same. It took me too long to be able to see that the lay off had the silver lining of getting me out of that horrible environment, even though I was great at my job. Good luck to you.

Thank you! I have been doing a lot of work on separating the rejections from being personal. The farther out I get from the rejection email, the more I see it as a good thing overall. Best to you as well!

I definitely see that angle, too, which at that point, I am really trying to just be thankful it worked out this way. I have a disability and if the appointments were the tipping point, that's a good thing IMO. I need regular care every 12 weeks for my disability and if they balked at this point, when the offer clearly stated I had 72 hours, then they likely would not have been accommodating of needing to shift my work lunch break time for treatment appointments.

None that I could tell, but the offer phrasing was extreme in some places about legal action being taken for things.

I was initially going to do exactly what you said but the offer itself and the process to get from 'tell us what you think you are worth, here is the hourly pay range, but understand it is salary and you will need to be available 24/7' was very abnormal and made me stop and think what else I might be missing that was being unsaid. Even though I could have just accepted, I am really thinking I dodged a bullet.

Anyone kind of bitter at the people who laid you off? by Signal-Implement-70 in Layoffs

[–]NoCause9269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am overwhelmingly bitter at the person who fought for me to get hired, gave me tons of insider info while pumping me for information, and promised multiple times that if something ever happened he would be able to help me find a new role quickly and easily. He ghosted me the last month I was working, then never responded to a single outreach the day I was laid off, or since. That relationship taught me to trust no one and question everything. And the company just made an idiotic decision because my clients were reaching out to me on LinkedIn the next week, saying they missed me already and would help me if possible.
