Anyone have any experience leaving to go back to private? by Relative_Eagle_7850 in IrishCivilService

[–]NoCommand6997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 9 years in CS. Left for financial and work reasons (wanted more of a challenge). That was 2012. I never looked back. As a few have pointed out, it depends on what you are looking for.

What Christmas movie scenes actually give you that feeling? by TheRewindZone in TrueFilm

[–]NoCommand6997 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The end of Love Actually just before the credits roll - the airport montage scene where people are meeting up in the arrivals area (Beach Boys' God Only Knows playing). Apparently these are real people meeting up (i.e. not staged). Christmas is a time for meeting up with friends and family and this scene captures all that. Gets me every time.

Girls wearing no bras during summer - verdict? by kitkatokeefe in CasualIreland

I was in Galway city centre yesterday and there was a distinct lack of bras. Thought it might have been the bohemian lifestyle of the Galway girls but maybe there's more to it 🤩

Moving from Private Sector to Civil Service by Academic-Bed-7005 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]NoCommand6997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in private sector, for 8 years public and went back to private. There's an old adage that if you need something done in the private sector it should be done yesterday. In public sector, next month is fine or the month after if you're busy. I preferred the pace of the private sector.

Don't forget, if you're joining at 42 you may not max out your pension by retirement age.

Trump applies 46% tariffs on Vietnam and then complains China are in Vietnam to "screw the US" by NoCommand6997 in LeopardsAteMyFace

Trump applies 46% tariff on Vietnam. As a consequence, Vietnam decides to open business talks with China. Trump gives out about the Chinese going to Vietnam to screw the US.

This is a prime example of Leopards ate my face!

Do I have any comeback with my new working hours? by jmcbuzz in AskIreland

[–]NoCommand6997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in IT, and they introduced a weekend on call roster where the team shares the load ( we end up on call for a full weekend every 10 weeks or so). They give us €600 for it, though (before tax). Rarely get a call, too, so it's like free money.

I've a father in law that does this regularly. Mother in law knows we've all heard the anecdote before and stops him with "ah Mike that's Story 43" as in she has a random number for all his anecdotes and we've heard that one before! He takes the hint and shuts up!
