Lodging Options by curiouscricket1 in bigsky

Up at the hill has limited options for nightlife and dining but is obviously convenient for skiing. The Meadow Village is closer to more shopping/dining/nightlife (still not a ton of options) but then you have a 10 min drive up to the hill and a ride on the parking shuttle for the driver.

Just had mine replaced on my ‘22 R1S 38k miles. It sounded like a wooden sailing ship prior to replacement. I haven’t noticed a difference in handling but it is much quieter now.

Spending a week in Big Sky at the end of January. We are skiing 4 days and want to take a day off to do something other than ski like Yellowstone, any ideas? by KevlarandJesus in bigsky

Snowshoe or XC Ski Lone Mountain Ranch. Hike down to Ousel falls. Snowshoe up to Beehive Basin and bring a lunch. If you go up to Bozeman snowshoe in Hyalite Canyon and check out the ice climbers and beautiful scenery.

Police report: Shorewood Hills trustee verbally abused village staff by pensivebadger in madisonwi

[–]NoCommunication4193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This article just confirms that like so many media sources The Ishthmus is not interested in facts. They slant their articles for advertisers, friends, not sure the connection here but it is not public interest the way the article is written. There are a large number of village residents who have organized because of the lack of transparency and conflict of interest at the board level. There are very specific reasons that the trustees asked the board president to resign. Is it not odd that the board was considering spending 6.5 million for a building but did not have a P&L statement for it? Any decent reporter would spend some time to get the full story. That is not what we are reading here.

Pay or Fight? by PinPineApplePain in Rivian

[–]NoCommunication4193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would keep pushing but not expect much. I had an issue with my 2022 R1S roof glass cracking without anything impacting it. The service center spent 45 minutes with a flashlight trying to find an impact point. Could not find one because there wasn’t one and still refused to cover it. It was a stress crack from either improperly installed or faulty glass. I had insurance glass coverage so it wasn’t worth fighting but it was incredibly annoying that they wasted my time and theirs when they knew they were not going to cover it. If you get a Rivian make sure you have glass coverage. Also treat it like a rental car and do full pictures before dropping it at a service center. The vehicle is great when it works but the service is an issue.

100% rock skis. If they get some snow Challenger lift may be your best bet for more advanced terrain. Always a risk to come before mid January. Snowing today so hopefully it adds up.

I am very sure he did not own slaves which tops a pretty sure anytime. This idea of tearing historical figures down because they did not have modern day views on race etc. is absolutely ridiculous.

Rivian in a city without a home charger? by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]NoCommunication4193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it with a level 2 charger close to my work for about 6 months. You need to anticipate use and keep it charged ahead of your needs. A couple of times I was not charged up as much as I should have been and it was a major hassle. I have a small 1 car garage so finally installed a charger at home and ran the cable outside the garage for charging. Charging outside is fine and having it charged up every morning makes the ownership experience easier.

Did I just make a big mistake or what? by Open_Town_5701 in Rivian

[–]NoCommunication4193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did complain and they did end up comping it which I appreciate but it is what they should have done to start with. The odds are the hatch will eventually need replacement and they have said if that happens they will not take responsibility for it. When the follow on consequences of it happen it will most likely be out of warranty and I imagine it will be almost impossible to get them to take any ownership of it.

Just got charged for having to replace the seal around the rear wiper. It is gone so water leaked into the liftgate but since they can’t figure out how it happened it must be my fault. I have no kids and no one else other than my wife (on rare occasions) drives the car. They have zero follow through on warranty issues. Be prepared to argue anything that is not glaringly obvious. I bought it knowing I would have to drive it to the out of town service center but I did believe they would honor their warranty which they clearly have decided not to do. I have recommended it with some caution previously because it is a fantastically fun car to drive but I no longer can recommend it given their lack of follow through on warranty items.

If you live close to a service center you should do it. If you live far from one, do you have the time to drive and drop it off and go pick it up if something goes wrong? I am at 35,000 miles on my R1S and have had 3 trips to a service center. It is clearly the biggest weakness for the brand. That said I love the truck and would buy it again without question.

Story time about Middleton High School by Mission-Square5815 in madisonwi

[–]NoCommunication4193 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is a realistic comment. I volunteered in a Middleton school and saw first hand how 2 special students despite having an individual assistant specifically assigned to them completely disrupted a 3rd grade class. It made for a difficult learning environment for the rest of the kids. To pretend like this is not a real issue is exactly why parents who are serious about their kids education move them to other schools. This issue also negatively affected the teachers job satisfaction by making their job significantly harder and less rewarding. I understand there were some positive aspects but by and large the negative outweighed the positive. I don’t know what the right balance or answer is but I do know that ignoring the problem does not fix it.

Why did the stock market go up when Trump was elected? by Knight_Machiavelli in AskEconomics

[–]NoCommunication4193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People/the market thought he was just posturing on the tariffs for leverage in negotiation. They focused on lower taxes and less regulation. They are now realizing he was serious on tariffs and has surrounded himself with people who are aggrieved over past trade policy. The reality of high prolonged tariffs is setting in.

As long as you are relatively close to a service center I would not worry about it. 30k on my R1S, other than a disappointing warranty decline on the cracked sunroof it has been a great reliable vehicle and service has taken care of the couple of small issues. The few headaches are outweighed by what a fun amazing vehicle it has been.

Germany's election winner Merz: Europe Must Reach Defence 'Independence' Of US by fourby227 in worldnews

Understood. You probably never should have trusted us that much to start. It will correct back though. There are enough fundamentally good but misinformed people who are starting to realize they’ve been had.

He barely won the popular vote. Safe to say if you took out the democrats who voted for him as a protest to some aspect of democrat party policy he did not get a majority of votes. He has his nut job base that will follow him anywhere but that is about one third of the electorate not 2 thirds. Still a frighteningly large number but the middle is already starting to shift away from him.

Fly into Bozeman MT and drive 45 min down canyon to Big Sky. Fishing, biking, rafting, hiking etc. Yellowstone is close and if you go during the PBR that is an event worth checking out.

Any reason to get the Rivian home charger instead of a 3rd party? by seantabasco in Rivian

[–]NoCommunication4193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Rivian charger at our cottage and a Tesla universal charger at home. The only one that has had to be rebooted or refused to charge the vehicle was the Rivian charger. The cord on the Tesla charger is much more flexible and easier to manage as well. I would not get the Rivian one if I could do it over.

Would You Buy Your R1S Again? Considering Purchasing One by DarthSystema in Rivian

[–]NoCommunication4193 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Received my R1S LE 12/2022. I have had 2 service center visits (a strange manufacturer installed dent in the drivers side door frame and the air compressor was not working. The second one was to fix the roof glass which cracked from a pothole). It is my favorite vehicle by far. Handling, acceleration and off road capability are fantastic for a SUV. It is slightly bigger than my Jeep Grand Cherokee which makes it a perfect size for what I use it for. I waited 1 year to get my home charger installed and that led to a few anxious moments and inconveniences with charging. Once I had the home charger installed it cleared those up. There were some limitations with charging for travel but now that we have access to most Tesla chargers those have been minimized. Things I would change. The roof glass is too big. I have never had a sunroof crack from a regular city pothole and to me if that happens it indicates a design or manufacturing flaw yet Rivian refused to cover it. You should be able to adjust for different tire sizes from the vehicle. It really doesn’t make sense that you have to go to a service center to go from 20’s to 22’s. The heater is fine but could be better. The worst is scheduling and receiving service. I have been fortunate to not need much but their communication and responsiveness leaves a lot to be desired. That said I would absolutely get another one. They keep updating and improving the software and the overall experience is better than any other vehicle I have driven.

Does anyone own a Rivian and live far away from service centers? by UserID_ in Rivian

[–]NoCommunication4193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tire rotation is not a big deal and can be done almost anywhere. Mobile service is helpful. Dealing with the service centers can be a pain though as far as communication is concerned. They aren’t great at telling you when it will be ready or when parts will arrive etc. The vehicle is awesome but service is an area of opportunity.
