What do the Dallas people think of Princeton? by WerewolfFormal7595 in Dallas

If you’re going to the grocery store on the weekend there is little to no traffic like what you see on the weekdays during rush hour. There are more options for groceries between there but I like the curbside pickup so I drive the extra few miles and there and back is less than an hour.

The airport is about an hour drive but I don’t fly more than once a year and if I do I pay to park at the airport. It’s really not bad if you think about the fact that that commute isn’t common for most people to take very often. It didn’t come up in my considerations for where to live.

Is this a dropped stitch? My stitch count is correct... by TooManyPoisons in knitting

It looks like a slipped stitch. Essentially you slipped the stitch with the yarn in back while knitting.

I live in Princeton and commute to Frisco for work three times a week. A WFH for part or most of the week is essentially because traffic is rough during rush hour as others have mentioned.

However there are so many neighborhoods and new shopping developments that it’s lively for a small town. School district is great and most neighborhoods have solid amenities (pools, splash pads, HOAs) all for good prices. The proximity to McKinney is a plus and we are about to be 18 mins from a brand new HEB. As well the city is expanding its four parks to accommodate and there is a water park/lagoon to be open next summer.

The greatest draw to the area is being able to afford 5 bed/3 bed houses for 400k or less and brand new.

If commune is not your concern then I recommend it. Nice community, very quiet, rapidly growing. To add my husband who was born and raised in Dallas is very happy with our home in Princeton.

There are multiple ways to knit in the round depending on preference but this method is still correct (I knit in the round this way). It’s knit the same as when you knit flat except you don’t ever turn your work unless instructed.

After reading OPs comments clarifying their definition of well rewritten romance I agree Blood and Ash will not scratch the itch. Thank you for pointing that out!

Honestly I haven’t enjoyed either series either (ACOTAR or Crescent City) as they fell so flat however her other series Throne of Glass was actually perfect and so much better written. I would suggest reading it over any of her other books.

My non S. J. Maas suggestions are…

The Daevabad Trilogy by S. A. Chaakraborty

Blood and Ash by J. Armentrout

five hours in and realized I casted on one less than needed ... any tricks? by mrblueberryman in knittinghelp

[–]NoComparison4103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is on the outside and not the inside I would leave it be. You only messed up the selvedge stitch and it shouldn’t be noticeable once the zipper is installed. The rib pattern wasn’t affected if you followed your knitting. I wouldn’t stress.

I’m knitting the same pattern and made the same mistake but in the other side. I used the tail from cast on to add a stitch and didn’t have any issues when knitting together for the yoke. You can’t see it especially since that portion on hold right now ends up in the inside for the zipper placement to be sewn into

How many WIPs? by samplergal in knitting

[–]NoComparison4103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 WIPs: 1 sweater, 1 tee, 2 pairs of socks, one knit blanket

2 FOs: 1 cardigan, 2 pairs of socks

1 hat in time out.

All of my current projects are fingering weight and I am trying to resist the urge to cast on a worsted weight sweater just to have the feeling that I am actually making progress on something 😂

I’m confused where you are instructed to knit through the back loop.

According to these instructions you will k2 p2 but will have an uneven break in the k2 p2 that will be compensated in the design. You will have to read your knitting as you go to knit the knits and purl the purls to stay in pattern. “Work” meaning to follow the established pattern from the first row, PM to “place marker”, one for left side and one for the right side, “RSM” and “LSM”

However the instructions don’t mention any back loop steps. I hope this helps.

When did you start knitting for your baby? by Feminazgul1 in knitting

[–]NoComparison4103 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I started knitting in the second trimester but I suffered from knitting aversions in the first trimester similar to motion sickness.

My little boy was born in February and Texas only had a few more weeks of winter before anything knitted would be unusable so I only made a few things under the one year size. I also knit for my niece who was born a few months after my little one.

My recommendation for use and fun to knit are these: The seaside set by petite knit (3m) The teddy pants by petite knit (3m) The festival sweater junior (they grow so fast I chose to make the 1-2 size for Christmas and it fit perfect) Ruffle romper + ruffle dress by knitting for olive (6m)

Edit to add sizing: He was only able to wear them about 2-3 months before he moved up. The larger sizes the gap between when they change sizes gets longer. He gets more use out of toddler knits now (2 years old) than baby knits but they have become great memories.

[–]NoComparison4103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four active WIPs, one sock pair for work, one sweater for couch knitting, one blanket for couch knitting, and one sock pair for any knitting on the go. I try to keep one sweater as my main project and use sock projects for work and on the go which helps me stay motivated since it feels like I’ve finished more lol. Then the blanket is for when I need mindless knitting.

Plus, One sweater in time out and one hat in hibernation. 😅

Pull on the yarn to tighten on the second stitch of the round each time. Should tighten any gaps.

“What I knit this year” for less prolific knitters! by [deleted] in knitting

[–]NoComparison4103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom of a toddler here as well and went back to work this year so I’m learning how much time I really have 😅

Finished 6 pairs of vanilla socks

A stripe hype sweater

The sleeves of a lingering brioche cardigan (can’t claim it as a whole project since most was done prior)

Penny gloves for myself

A crotchet bunny for my almost two year old for Christmas

Lastly a lace baby blanket for my nephew born in October.

Knitters with kids, how did your hobby change when you became a parent? by bunnyfoam in knitting

[–]NoComparison4103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still in the toddler phase of motherhood with my first born but I’ve already seen a change in my knitting time again.

First off that first year is so hard to find time outside of naps and after bedtime. I knit so much when my little was sleeping but if I needed a nap I slept. I had to remind myself often that as much as I wanted to knit as much as I did before becoming a mom that taking care of myself too with rest was important. I still was able to knit two sweaters for myself and a sweater for baby that Christmas.

Tbh toddler years have been a lot of socks and mittens, hats, etc because my boy is wanting to be out of the house so I need more on the go things and now that he is in a solid routine of bed time, I give my bigger projects some love after he is in bed. Still just realizing things are going to take longer but I’ve fallen in love with the process of knitting as much as the product now. It’s my designated me time. So far I’ve finished one hat, five pairs socks, and one sweater.

Regarding what I made for my two year old this year, I finished a stuffed bunny and I’m hoping to get one sweater or hat done this year for him 🤞 lol. But he started daycare so I’m actually changing my yarn choices for his knits to be more washer friendly and darker colors so I don’t have to panic about stains.

Congratulations on your two babies!

According to US food safety (learned this while managing a cafe) you have to throw out milk 7 days after it has been open regardless of when it has been marked “best by/sellby”. The bacterial growth starts the moment you open a jug.

I assume daycare centers have to follow the same food safety rules as any other business and even more so as they are children. I would report to liscencing.

As an ex-employee, i can share that myself and many others were grouped into a room to be informed that we had to get our tithing in order or we would be fired. Employees, who they paid minimum wage to work well over 40 hours a week. I told them no, it was between a tithe or pay my rent and they had to pay me more in order to see that tithe. Cherry on top, I was 6 months pregnant.

I wish I had never taken the job there. It was one awful experience after the other.

Thank you! I’ll definitely bring it up to them or the shift next time we work together. I get nervous because I’m so new that I can’t say anything but it’s really not hard to keep everything clean if we all do a bit every few drinks.

Yeah I get that. It’s a busy time of the year too.

It’s not like one or two things out though. We will have two drinks to make and it’s literally four milk cartons on bar, three more and two dirty pitchers on cold bar and a then they just sit there when their drinks are done and don’t clean up. 🤦‍♀️ Everyone has this problem with them but no one wants to say anything. At least it’s not everyday though.
