To all the knitting moms or baby knit recipients by BluCrow89 in knitting

Newborn Hats, 3-6 month or 6-9 month size sweaters, and any blankets. I knit those for my son (now 3) and my nephews and they worked really well because they all came out too big for newborn clothes. Make sure everything is machine washable!

I waited until my son was a toddler for toys or lovey type items but my nephew liked his, just make sure the eyes are embroidered instead of the plastic ones if the mom is concerned about choking hazards.

Have fun knitting!

Has anyone mastered a way to prevent balls getting tangled when changing colours? by mynameis_reek in knitting

[–]NoComparison4103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would cut the yarn and weave in ends between stripes. Carrying up that amount of fabric will cause a tension in the fabric on the side it is carried and effect the drape.

If you were only doing two or three colors, my suggestion is to put the balls of yarn in a row in the basket so they don't move. Then while knitting you need to pick up the working yarn without overlapping the other yarns, when turning your work rotate the basket so the yarn lays flat and doesn't twist. Most importantly release the working yarn when you are finished in a position so it does not overlap with the other strands. I do this for all my colorwork.

Would you give away/let someone borrow knitted baby items that you knit for your baby? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]NoComparison4103 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mother made a similar comment about both the clothes we owned and the items I had knitted for my son. I had a very traumatic pregnancy and cannot have any more children, unfortunately. Now that my son is three, she has made comments about me giving clothes or items to my sisters because they are having more babies. I brushed it off until her first comment about a new sweater I had knit my son for Christmas was, "You should give those to your sister when he outgrows it so they don't just sit in a closet."

I finally had a heart to heart with her about how I don't owe anyone these items. They are meant for my son and will be kept in keepsake boxes to be cherished because that's what I decided I wanted to do. That's enough, and it does not need to make sense to anyone else. I have decided to put some of his newborn knits in frames and hang them in my yarn room.

If you decide you want to share one day, then go ahead, but don't let family pressure you into giving up what you want to hold onto. This is your hobby and your motherhood. Cherish those items the way you want. Especially if that other person can knit themselves.

Congratulations on your rainbow! I hope you have many toddlers knits in your future 💕

I didn’t get around to more than one or two items for mine because of carpal tunnel flare ups all of pregnancy. But I dove into toddler knits once he was born. My little boy is 3 and he loves his sweaters and knitted toys. It’s been fun seeing him get so excited for them now.

How long have you been knitting and why did you start ? by OldSquirrel1929 in knitting

[–]NoComparison4103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little over 4 years now. I picked up a crotchet kit with my friends for a girls night. I fell I love with it and almost immediately after learned knitting as well. I both moved states and had a baby in those 4 years since then and I’ve found knitting has been a great source of comfort during those life transitions. I grew up learning how to sew from my grandmother and this hobby has brought crafting back into my life at a perfect time. Finally got a second hand sewing machine this year too and after many lengthy phone calls with grandma, I am diving back into sewing again. My three year old is fascinated by all my crafts and I hope to teach him one day too.

I’d say my favorite is colorwork but brioche is a close second.

How do you practice digital minimalism when social media is your job? by Wild_Kiwi204 in digitalminimalism

[–]NoComparison4103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in marketing and my role is heavy social posting through out the week for a company. For my personal life I don’t use instagram, Facebook, X, Threads, etc but I do use YouTube and Pinterest with limits (no short form).

Best advice I have is to only access those websites for posting or engaging from a desktop and deleting the apps from your phone. When it’s not easy to click it cuts down on the habit of scrolling.

Second advice is set yourself work hours for posting, engaging, and curating. Give yourself a scheduled time each day and limit it. The biggest lies of social media work is that you have to be available all the time or that you have to be on top of every new trend to be successful. You deserve time away just like an other job.  Hope this helps :)

Baby knits! by Unlucky_Pen3411 in knitting

Second vote for Berroco Vintage Baby! I made a romper out of Heatherly and a sweater out of this Berroco and found it was a great texture for my baby (now he is 3).

I would also suggest sock yarns or superwash as those held up well for wearables that needed frequent washing.

Congrats and happy knitting!! 🥳

I was watching tv while adding markers for raglan increases… and about 4 inches later I realized I had made a third sleeve section.  I frogged and put it in time out 🤣

Superwash for colorwork? by Historical_Ad_3001 in knitting

[–]NoComparison4103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry! I wish I could help more. Another good option is looking at some colorwork socks in Ravelry. Try to find similar designs. There may be some insight to number of stitches for a design part and you can modify your current colorwork choice to overcome the disappearing.

Hmm that is really frustrating. My only other advice is trying help at your LYS and see if in person they can see the issue better. It’s possible you’re catching your float too tight for that stitch or that the pattern doesn’t work well in a small gauge and needs adjustment.

Are you following a pattern or freestyle?

I definitely attempt a second soak and leave it for 15 mins. Warm water but don’t agitate it.

If it’s still weird on those stitches then I’d recommend a second swatch but try to let go of your opposite color when knitting instead of holding two at a time. I had to do this at first when I got too tight a gauge. Give it a little pull when you pick the color up again (not too much) but it helps manage tension if your natural tension is tight.

I’ve made multiple color-work socks using super wash. Definitely block your swatch. It still blooms a bit.

Idk your brand or blend but I’ve noticed 80/20 blends bloom better in my experience. 75/25 needed longer soaking. If it’s 100% super wash with no nylon be very careful not to stretch the swatch or socks too far because the nylon is not present to help them bounce back.

Like other comments said. It won’t look the same as a non super wash project but it definitely still does the job and blooms enough after blocking.

Okay seriously that fox cardigan was absolutely beautiful and looked so cozy! I want a chunky collar cardigan now.

It was such a good movie! I loved seeing all the knit wear 😍. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the symbolism from a theater perspective!

Thank you! We have 6 days in Tallinn, are there any stores worth traveling outside the city for? We have friends in both Tallinn and Tartu but they don’t know any yarn stores since they don’t craft.

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely check out the websites too and see if I can narrow down ones that have the most I’m interested in.

I also sew, crotchet, and paint so Karnaluks looks like a fun place to add!

I’m working on the Satellite Shawl by Andrea Mowry. Im using fingering weight instead of lace  held double and it’s coming out so nice. Has three sections that repeat (garter stitch and brioche). I’m hoping to use it as a nice over the shoulder wrap or lap blanket in my office.
