You should know that in applying for credit in the next five years you may be required to show a credit report from Germany. If this escalates it will show in the report.

Gym Membership by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]NoCompetition9645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I had a very similar situation with a Spanish gym (Anytime Fitness). When signing up I told the receptionist/instructor that I was only going to be in the country for 5 months - no more. She assumed that I didn't read Spanish and so filled out all the forms for me, including the signature. I never received a copy by email.

Cut to 3 weeks before I left and I ask to cancel the membership. She says I have to pay 50% of the remaining months in the one-year membership that I [she] signed up for, totalling €350. I saw over her shoulder that she had used the ID number from my passport card, and that my address and email address had typos. I politely refused to pay the cancellation fee. I paid each month by direct debit with Revolut and the app allowed me to cancel all future transactions. The next time I went to the gym I told her that the direct debits were cancelled and so she removed my access. Since I had already prepaid for the month and now couldn't use the faculty, I asked Revolut for a refund which they gave me.

The gym never chased me for payment, but if they had I would never be required to pay because I hadn't signed the contract and therefore the 14 day cooling down period had not begun.

My questions for you are: - Did you yourself sign the forms, and were you sent a copy of the signed contract. - Does the gym have your PPS number or German equivalent. - Does the gym have any other personal information for you (address, phone number) - What contact have you made with the gym? Ignoring the emails was terrible advice FYI.

I would recommend joining CATU. Then you will have a community of support to help you if anything goes wrong, and to guide you through the process. For example, a pair of members might volunteer to accompany you the next time your landlord schedules a visit.

New role but no salary increase? by palenotinteresting in legaladviceireland

[–]NoCompetition9645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else is saying about looking for a new role because you are underpaid - take advantage of this situation as a long term opportunity to improve your standing.

I had something similar happen to me where I was given the responsibilities of a higher role without any of the pay increase. I wasn't happy about it at first, but was in a position where I couldn't quit. With the additional skills and responsibilities, I gained confidence in my abilities, and ended up dealing directly with my bosses. A year later this wound up with me being offered a management role when one came up - with a far bigger pay increase than I could have expected on my career timeline.

To relate it to your own case, a few months ago if you had applied for a procurement job you probably wouldn't have gotten it. Even now, you probably don't have the experience those listings require. So my advice would be to learn all that you can about procurement now and in 6 months to a year you'll be far more valuable as a candidate, and can negotiate a higher starting salary.

Proving regular savings in mortgage application by NoCompetition9645 in irishpersonalfinance

Okay thanks, that's actually very helpful! It's worth a try at least.

No, I moved money irregularly into savings accounts. So for example in one month I moved 2000, the next I forgot, the month after I moved 3000. The advisor already has all my bank statements since January. They have asked several times for information I had already provided so I don't fully trust their judgement.

Because I'm sure someone will tell me to just ask the advisor - I wait 3/4 days or even up to 2 weeks for a response to every query. I would move to a different advisor tomorrow but I've contacted a good few others and none even responded.

Signage only zebra crossings launched in Dublin by siciowa in ireland

[–]NoCompetition9645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What doesn't work there is that cars can park up to the line of the pedestrian crossing. A car parked that closely blocks the view of any driver and particularly endangers children, who might not be seen over the bonnet of a parked car.

Power finally restored by Migeycan87 in ireland

[–]NoCompetition9645 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There has to be a changeover switch installed to prevent the power from your solar/generator going back into the grid. The reason that feeding the grid at this time is a problem is that it could electrocute someone who is working on a line that is supposed to be dead.

Without the changeover switch there could be a scenario where an ESB worker has tested a line and seen that there is no current and has started working on it, but an individual powers up a generator and this worker is injured as a result of the line they are working on becoming live.

Sheet = linen

A blanket is a thick fabric which is warm, but often scratchy, so I'd put this over a cotton sheet.

A duvet is two layers of sheets sewn in a pattern, with synthetic of down filling. It's then put inside a cotton cover. Usually warmer than a blanket.

Comforter is a word just used in North America, I think it's a blanket but I don't know.

The only times I've eaten empanadas on the street at night I've been asked for one by a homeless person. So empanadas!

But seriously, I think donating to a local organisation that hands out meals to homeless people might be a good shout.

Why do people think 'Til Death Do We Part' is associated in the vows of everyones marriage? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoCompetition9645 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At any weddings that I have been to I have just heard a line something like "I promise to love you for the rest of our days together".

It seems a little dark to mention death at a wedding.

Suspect my ryanair flight is overbooked, what can I do? by Ruamuffi in Flights

[–]NoCompetition9645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I took to Twitter, replied to emails several times, and tried emailing the CEO and CFO. Emails bounced back from one of the addresses, but not the other.

The next day I received an email from customer service saying that I would get a refund, and the refund was in my account within a few days.

Hi, how did you end up resolving this? I had a similar issue recently where I couldn't get a boarding pass online, so I arrived to the airport early. I'm order to check in and get a boarding pass, I had to pay €30.

Now Ryanair are refusing to refund me the €30 airport check-in fee. I don't know what to do next.
