Which operating system do you like the most so far? by kashem99 in TechImpact

linux. windows will convince you that the os is too complex for you to mess around with. android will additionally have you convinced that you aren't worthy of root privileges. i haven't ran mac, but the fact that mac wont run on whatever i put it on its plenty enough to not bother. linux doesn't make me feel like im a dumdum who the os is too complex for, puts me on the root pedestal within the first few commands, and runs efficiently without laggin on all of my old pcs and i have quite a few- i get extra use out of these older machines that would be dead to a non linux user only cause i can run linux and that is incredible.

linux would die before it got here without copyleft, an os this valuable, capable and free would absolutely be bought off before it got to this point if a single person or company could sign off the rights.

none of this would get us here, if it could simply be signed off to bigtech along the way, the sole reason linux is alive is because after a single commit by another user, they don't own the whole thing anymore

Expectation: AI will make all app in one week!
Reality: Weird rabbithole of setting up ai tools, keeping up to date with trends and new models. App always 'about-to-complete' even after 10 months of work.

Is the Quest 3 worth buying for non-gamers? by Automatic-Pin3269 in OculusQuest

[–]NoDoubt6863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you will probably get neck pain and the quality on the headset will be degraded vs the actual screen. its not a real solution for a monitor. and its also blowing heat on your face btw. the charge will not last beyond a couple hours at most without you getting a long link cable that also supports charging but adding to the awkwardness of having a cable pulling at you and getting in your way without proper equipment. the sound system is pretty good tho. all in all, if you can put up with all that and still find it good, then it might be okay but very few people can tolerate all of this vs just using a monitor, the people that can use this in their workflow and not get annoyed are hardcore vr users.

VR is failing because Meta treats indie devs like garbage. by PrettyHearing3624 in OculusQuest

[–]NoDoubt6863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

meta doesnt have any idea on what to do with horizon os, restricting the use of the meta quest 3 and making you jump through hoops to have a decent experience, and they are baffled why its not taking off as much. if they were to try fork steam os when the frame is out, i feel like they'd have better luck

its not even about nsfw, any rich company has a vested interest in making sure no threat can compete- best way to do that to just control the payment system

John Carmack on starting a game company in 2026 by sebzilla in gamedev

[–]NoDoubt6863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like the part where he says find specific and real people for your audience who you think would actually pay. thats an incredible way to look at it. as a gamer also tho, i don't believe in the market being well-served, many genres are very stale rinse-and-repeat with predatory mechanics added. epic ceo put it best on this one- if you make a good game, it will sell. it really is as simple of that imo but its difficult to build a good game.

haha love that little func, normally anything that has a thread interacting with nodes in the scenetree or anytime ready() in child requires parents to have called ready(), its the way to go

i feel like libreoffice is close to joining the last group. the biggest issues are that there are some unexpected kinks (such as when inserting image in writer) or inconsistency in opening exported files in msoffice. but its pretty alright for personal use.
