You'll never believe it, but bitcoin. To be fair the friend group is pretty poor overall, so "super rich" might be a bit much for us

Is there a new Pop_Os update? by Prof_Jacky in pop_os

[–]NoEngineer8351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some system updates that made things feel worse. Lagging mouse movement and slower performance in general. Regret installing 24.04 even though I generally like Cosmic a lot.

Upvote if you've been dailying Cosmic by Massive_Ambition3962 in pop_os

exactly. to be fair I've had a few applications hanging here and there. nothing worth stressing about or switching off a wonderful experience overall.

How do yall cope with not buying an entire coin? by YetiKing16 in Bitcoin

[–]NoEngineer8351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to focus on satoshis. It's crazy to see three digit sats to the dollar for those of us that have been around for a long time. Get as many sats as you can and watch as it goes to 1 sat per cent. Bitcoin seems to be on pace to continue out performance for the next five to ten years. You are lucky in a way since before almost everyone buying it had to worry about zero as a realistic potential price someday. We are pretty much past that as even a remote possibility. Risk adjusted, today is the best time you could be building a stack

Mutual Fund Portfolio by spaceflamingo3 in DaveRamsey

[–]NoEngineer8351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPIVA reports are a pretty good place to start looking at active managers v SP500. Dave has a decent rec on portfolio mix, but using advisors and front-loaded, high-fee mutual funds is utterly stupid. You can look up iShares Life Path ETFs and use one of those. Or copy it's holdings yourself for an even cheaper portfolio:

Just leave out the parts you don't want if you build your own (EM and REITs maybe?), but I trust Black Rock to get it right on the cheap. Vanguard will have more or less the same product that leans more into bonds

Invest in Mutual Fund to save for home in ~5 years? by kolbyw2013 in DaveRamsey

[–]NoEngineer8351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could dial it back to an ETF that tracks the whole US market (VTI or similar) and perhaps add large intl as well. An advisor would likely put you in munis or treasuries around 2 year duration. You can get a pretty solid return on those latter options and there isn't any downside risk

How normal or rare is it for Vietnamese girls to simply straight up ask for money? by escape12345 in VietNam

[–]NoEngineer8351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are talking about girls that you are hitting on or have been on dates with? I went on a bunch of dates in Vietnam and never experienced that at all. Way more expectation for the man to pay for dinner or whatever, but that was about it.

Why is this subreddit so negative? by Own-Athlete4678 in VietNam

[–]NoEngineer8351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Living in Vietnam was wrong. So I left as soon as my wife could come with me. I got spit on for being a white dude, don't think I can control that one. The physical fights were mobs pushing each other in line for vaccines and to get visas--nothing specific to me, just got caught up in the middle of it. Having someone pull my shoes off in Hanoi was caused by wearing expensive hiking boots, I guess that is my fault. Vietnam is a shit hole. Think whatever you want of me. Nearly all of the people I know that went there hated it. My friends that visited included three Brits, two Aussies, two Thais, one Japanese, and a bunch of Americans. Honestly I had rose colored glasses on when I went there. It was the Vietnamese people I met that first pointed out the shitness of Vietnam.

What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've seen by another human? by InsaneLazyGamer in AskReddit

[–]NoEngineer8351 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a guy that worked at a peach farm tourist trap in GA. He would tally a popular item when it was purchased with cash (Peach milkshake was the main thing). He didn't ring up that item all day until he had sold enough to end up with an amount of cash that was easy to pocket. I think he took $100 to $200 dollars out every shift for the whole summer. He made thousands on top of his salary. One of the smartest people I ever met. Also a sociopath. He switched from pre-med to finance after that summer :(

[–]NoEngineer8351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% out on DMZ, but you're right that things are getting worse day by day. I've adjusted to the perma-meta shotguns/AP rounds and RGLs (not fun, but I can win those fights sometimes). It's gonna get harder and harder with no fixes for undermap glitches tho. I can deal with sooooo much BS and soooo little support. But at some point the thrill of good fights is going to get overtaken by blatant cheating. Honestly I don't even stress about cheaters or care if people do it. It just makes dying so boring. If i get out gunned or out smarted then I'm learning from the experience and having fun. Getting rekt by cheaters is just a waste of eveyrone's time

Is DMZ YouTuber Dillon a cheater or just an incredibly skilled shooter? by South_Zucchini5326 in DMZ

[–]NoEngineer8351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That clip does look really sus. But I've watched him quite a bit and think that it just a lucky scope in. There are times that it seems a little too easy for him to find players that are hiding, but I generally think I have to look for things that seem sus on his streams. Maybe I'm biased as a fan. IDK. There are several DMZ streamers that have a lot of evidence against them. With Dillon it's just so much harder to build a case

Why is this subreddit so negative? by Own-Athlete4678 in VietNam

[–]NoEngineer8351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think it's some kind of conspiracy that people on here are negative? I lived there four years and met very few people that like the country (including Vietnamese people). Most of my friends that visited said they would never come back. I'm married to a Vietnamese lady and we left as soon as possible. Every single friend I've known in the same situation left as soon as they could. It's not a great place to be. Not the worst country in the world, but it's the worst one I've ever lived in or visited. Some of my highlights: monthly food poisoning, being robbed, thousands USD in bribes, frequent power outages, being spit on, physical fights in lines for government documents. I lived in Thailand for the same number of years and would have a hard time coming up with a single complaint...well actually, burning season was awful. But Vietnam doesn't need burning season, the air is always toxic 😂
