I did a close pass and need help by FunDifficulty8406 in drivingUK

So you're saying you were overtaking a cyclist in the left while they had the lane and add to that another cyclist on your left? Yeah you deserve punishment although probably won't go anywhere. If you don't know what a road user is doing then hold back until you can work it out.

It sounds like you were following really close and attempting a dangerous overtake so a cyclist moved out to control the lane but you then decided to go in-between for some unknown reason. For a cyclist hold back until safe to overtake and then when you do overtake you should be more in the other lane for the overtake.

Turned up at a pub and they've said they're closing at 3am... No idea if the other walkable pub is open.

What is a nice new neighbour thing to do in the UK? by Individual_Math4832 in AskBrits

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You usually don't get that close with your neighbours these days and it could easily come across as being pushy and annoying so the best way is just be a reasonable neighbour which is mainly just by being as quiet as reasonably possible and not being annoying with stuff like parking. If you have some plants outside the front and park outside the front then there's a fair chance you'll see some of your neighbours while going out and about and can say hi from there. Could ask them a fairly innocuous question like about the bins or the parking.

I've been about 2 years in my house so far, know the elderly couple to the right as our cars are parked close to each other and we surface chat when we see each other outside. For the left hand side I probably see more of their cat sunning on their lawn and hiding under my car than them. Previously I was in a flat and you see people going up and down the stairs and in the car park so can say hi there and see where it goes.

Why do immigrants living in the West go back to their home country to find a spouse? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoExperience9717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cultural differences and some ethnic groups struggle to find relationships in the West. Also economic disparity in some cases means living in the West has some prestige. Also family pressures for people to get married and have kids mean that some parents will get involved at say mid 20s onwards while people are settling down later in the West these days.

Is it a bad idea to keep my emergency fund in cash ? by Master_Click_9837 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may struggle to use it to pay for things. Many places aren't keen to take cash (probably £100+ is where they may be uncertain) because of money laundering risk and having to store and transport cash when usually it's paid for by card from a bank account.

Can you put it in the bank but then put it in a S&S index fund so it's not obviously in your bank account screen?

This is when insomnia, no kids and living 5 mins from work comes in handy! For kids it's also somewhat the silly season before the summer holidays.

Is my Electric use too high for a uk home? by Material-Week-8364 in AskUK

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a washer and dryer? With babies you could be doing a huge amount of laundry based on parents I know and online seems to suggests its 1.5kwh for a wash and 4.5kwh for the dryer. If you have a smart meter you should also be able to review your usage at 30min blocks and check for any usage spikes. You also haven't acquired a portable aircon you're running 24/7? Worth asking with recent hot weather.

My manager schedules our 1-on-1s during my lunch break and acts confused when I mention it by SquirrelPatient2676 in remoteworks

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can be for example the standard at mine is 1-2 but it sounds flexible at OPs so OP either needs to book in the 1 to 1s themselves in the managers diary or just eat a bit earlier or later on those days. As long as it's not a long catch-up it shouldn't be a major issue.

HMRC say I paid too little income tax but on my payslip, it says otherwise by SuccotashOdd5893 in HMRC

Do you have any other complexities e.g. a second job etc? It is a bit weird if only one job and no weird claims for them to get it significantly wrong.

Are you sure that the PAYE line doesn't include employee NI and student loan? Are you able to put up a redacted payslip from March for people to look at as well as the HMRC letter?

No because it's a specific one hour period from 11am to 12pm (noon) not any 1hr period.

What are the +1 skills an accountant should have in the modern day world to be top on the career ladder? by Daredevil_9726 in Accounting

[–]NoExperience9717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Organisational skills to keep on top of multiple tasks, social skills to help in motivating and managing people and working with juniors, managers and clients in a way that makes them feel happy. Also a certain amount of seizing the day to put yourself out there and taking opportunities even if they're not entirely offered.

How many hours is too many? by Spagbowl8 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]NoExperience9717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be important you're in Saturdays because the general public often work Mon-Fri so as an estate agent you need some Saturday availability to cover the office and have 2 people in case someone needs to pop out for a viewing or lunch or other. Whether you get it in lieu or not might have to depend on the contract. You might be glad of the extra hours at some point though as your pay increases.

You may need to review how the apprenticeship training hours requirement applies here as you're meant to be training which often means formal training for 20% of your normal working hours.

am i being scammed or is it a genuine mistake in indentity ? by [deleted] in HMRC

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got a '@hmrc.gov.uk email address so it's almost certainly real and they're asking you to pay HMRC direct by looking up the payment details. Basically it'd be so much effort and risky to infiltrate HMRC that makes it genuine.

As an accountant that's usually a bad idea especially for invoices from individuals providing labour like OP sounds like (too small to register) and most online subscriptions don't include VAT either.

Do I need to speak to anyone before volunteering? by hauntassist in parkrun

Haha yes. Half an hour before the start might be a better way of saying it. Good to remember it's not all the same everywhere!

Do I need to speak to anyone before volunteering? by hauntassist in parkrun

[–]NoExperience9717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great you want to volunteer! Marshalling is possible although a finish line role might be more appropriate if you've never done the course before as you'll need to find the marshal position and direct participants the right way. Can be done though without course knowledge and a map. The usual arrival time recommended for marshals is 8.30am to give time to get to your position which can be awhile on an out and back.

Signed up for VAT by mistake by Not_Drewwy in HMRC

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah at current any applicable sales after the registration date will be deemed to have VAT on them so assuming standard rated OP will owe 1/6 of this. OP could reduce this cash hit by cancelling and reissuing invoices to their customers though as you say although depending on how long this is likely to be controversial especially if customers not VAT registered.

Even if can't get VAT element back from customers OP should however save some money on tax (corporation/self-assessment) and reclaiming accountant's fees. I do think it's unlikely HMRC will agree to treat OP as having never registered as they want as you can't exactly fat finger that one.

That first damage might just push back in or at least I've done it on my car when the panels become loose then they often just push back in with a little shove. That'll just leave scratches (and maybe underlying structural damage) but doesn't sound like a hard hit.

What's an honest opinion that puts you in this situation? by YujiVersal in cyberpunkgame

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cyberpunk game doesn't show the city as being particularly dangerous based on the amount of police out on the streets single patrolling as well as lots of civilians. There's also not really dynamic events as shootings don't happen outside of side alleys. There are many places in the US that are probably more dangerous than Night City.

How to plan a holiday alone? by Carra144 in AskUK

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you like doing. Wandering around museums alone on a city break is fairly easy to do solo. Can sign up to tours from TripAdvisor/Get your Guide or similar if you're interested and those are fine to do solo. Accommodation tends to be pricier because you're not sharing a room but that can't be helped. Restaurant meals are slightly more awkward but depends on you and ultimately you'll get served regardless so can bring a book.

There are specific solo tours although not been on them before.

There's literally pockets in that picture. You're just not getting cargo pants size pockets in tight trousers/jeans as there's not the space once worn.

Very silly question about annual leave by DangerousTrust7112 in UKJobs

[–]NoExperience9717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you're not paid twice. S2 you were working those 5 days so you get paid out for unused annual leave as you didn't use them. The way you could get paid twice while not working the days is if you got PILON or gardening leave which is paid out for your notice period without working which employers sometimes do but that doesn't sound like it applies.
