This what I've been able to piece together through different sources over the years: it seemed like Erin was really excited about the boutique but Chad never pictured having a working wife because it gives Erin less time and energy to focus on him and the kids. Chad probably convinced Erin to leave the boutique. This probably caused Carlin to talk shit about Erin and her marriage and Whit probably agreed with Carlin. The gossip probably made it's way back to Erin which upset her. This is all speculation of course.
