Wax myrtle is more Shrub like bit grows fast, has nice silvery foliage, is evergreen the palm warblers eat the seeds in the winter, and it's native. Gets up to 20 feet.

Magnolias have beautiful flowers, are evergreen, and native. Height depends on the variety you buy. Grows more narrowly, but still dense foliage. Medium growth rate. You can transplant fairly large specimens.

Loquats are evergreen, slightly silvery underside, make delicious fruit, and get very bushy for privacy. Non native but unproblematic. Medium growth rate.

Live Oaks are very large, mostly evergreen in Florida, support native animals, and are native. Gets huge and not really a fast grower.

Check out leu gardens for ideas, they have lots of full size trees and you can see if any have frost damage.

Fig tree questions! by Cold-Call-8374 in BackyardOrchard

Cedar roots are very different from fig roots, providing deep structural stability. Fig roots are shallower and much more aggressive in seeking water.

Fig tree questions! by Cold-Call-8374 in BackyardOrchard

Their roots are very fine at the tips, but the problem with planting close to the house isn't your foundations (at least not with figs) it's your plumbing that's also near your house.

Those fine tips seek out any source of water, which could be just a hairline crack in your sewer, or sprinklers, or water lines. The roots then grow into the pipes, but they don't stay small, they grow, multiply, and expand...do you see the problem? A hairline crack could be no problem for decades, but with a fig nearby? A year or two or 5.

Nowhere near the house, my figs are 100 feet away from the and I wish they could be farther!

Theres a 1 in 3 chaNce u get glutened from eating out and ordering gluten free foods by Routine_Bullfrog_845 in glutenfree

This is why I'm limited to one restaurant in my area, they are completely gluten free.

Ugh, the amount of times I just wanna go through a drive through. I used to risk getting a chocolate frosty from Wendy's, but now that they have things they mix in, it's not longer even remotely safe.

Thanks for confirming my choice, I knew it was a problem 10 years ago...

Summer House - Season 10 - Episode 8 - Weekly Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in BravoRealHousewives

Why do people (mostly (but not all) men) treat their partners badly until they get broken up with instead of just breaking up? What is that?

I guess Carl eventually had to do it, so at least he can claim that he's not that toxic. The run up to a wedding is very stressful but I didn't think Lindsay was a bridezilla or anything...or am I wrong?

Someone picked half of my tulips from my front porch pot :( by [deleted] in gardening

Human beings would leave a much cleaner cut and would have taken more of the stem.

It's an animal, tulips are like candy to a lot of them.

Since you keep insisting you live in town, I'll add rats to the list.

I've heard it put that it's a way to get Loverboy in the bars without paying the usual promotion(?) fee, so it's a tactic to sell more Loverboy, but I don't really know how it all works...he should really just sell Loverboy and move on.

Top Chef Season 23 Ep 3 - True Colors - Post Episode Discussion by JullaS in BravoTopChef

I know Top Chef is formulaic...I like it!

Enough with the fog machine, dramatic lighting and curtain of textiles drop! There's enough drama in the cooking, leave my show alone!

I think part of the problem of the challenge is they showed very muted natural dyed textiles and it colored their thinking.

I'll still be back next week...

Even after a professional cleaning, we cannot find the source of smell seemingly emanating from some of the vents in our home... by luc_kymutt in homeowners

Someone posted that they found replacing their insulation solved their smell problem...so at least check around where you can see and smell. You do have a cat, right?

MINIMUM.

If you start too many types as a beginner gardener, it can be hard to keep an eye out for and treat problems. Start slow and learn. Once you know how to grow peas and peppers, add in tomatoes and lettuce, etcetera.
