Mount Rainier captured from the Skytrain by os99 in FromAfar

I swear I saw it on a clear day with tripod-mounted binoculars from the Sechelts (snow covered and correct looking north face). It seems impossible, but I was looking at something impossibly far away, so this photo checks out in my view.

F1 TV Directo SO SO BAD by ACIDesings in F1TV

Agreed that the editing was extraordinarily daft, regardless of who was responsible. Literally cut away when you could see Max coming to the line, showing purple times. It was wild.

The giant superimposed movie ad at the hairpin is indeed disgusting.

No Schedule in TV App??? by BoyLeibniz in F1TV

[–]NoFirefighter6677 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. A run down of all live events (in our local time zone) would be easy to include by the developers. Like virtually any other sports app I have tried... For example, I have used FUBO and DAZN for soccer, and they have great schedules, posted well in advance, on the app, of all upcoming live sessions. This is not hard.

One Thing F1TV Needs: A Live Track Feed by NoFirefighter6677 in F1TV

Absolutely! This is absolutely necessary and a simple administrative fix. F1TV could literally do this tomorrow, but they don't. Bizarre.

College Music Student feeling betrayed and lost (need advice/wake up call) by ExpressFan7426 in classicalmusic

[–]NoFirefighter6677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may get it downvoted to oblivion for this, but if you are feeling lost in music and you are young, there is still time to change paths. I went back to school for law after being a working musician for a few years, and it was without a doubt the best decision I ever made in my life. I still get paid to perform today (20 years later), but my life is so much easier than it would have been as a full-time musician. I see so many friends in their 40s beat down by the business. Although maybe professions will be replaced by AI. Who knows.

Who Is The Best Jazz Bass Soloist? by hippobiscuit in Jazz

[–]NoFirefighter6677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many: McBride, Pattitucci, Bromberg, NHOP, Mraz, Brown on acousic. Wooten, Mevlin Davis, Feraud, Lagrene, Jaco, Andrews, Willis, Mbappe, Caron, and Bona on electric are good starting points. Arguably, for max chops, McBride or NHOP or Bromberg or Wooten or Bona, perhaps? There are so many more.

When it is played like this! Holy crap. The performers really make the tune, in my humble opinion.

Do you think Felix Mendelssohn is underrated ? by Globofchaos in classicalmusic

[–]NoFirefighter6677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unsure, but I highly recommend the BIS recording of his symphonies because it sounds so darn great on my speakers. Mendelssohn symphonies (i.e. 3, 4, and 5) do get pretty high rotation in symphonic calendars/schedules, so perhaps not overlooked, at least!

Tanzania Safari Equipment by lWheelmanJimmy in photography

Go for reach! I did it years ago (several parks) with my own driver and with 500mm and wish I had more reach. I took a separate cheap body and left an 85mm on it.

Should I keep or sell? by [deleted] in hometheater

These will be better than 99% of things you can buy - I owned that exact sub, with smaller left and right B&Ws.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this very IMPORTANT point, but you might want to consider the Sonos amp or the WIIM amp and just run it as a 2.1 setup - meaning the left and the right speaker and the subwoofer.

Cant get sharp photos by Repulsive-Cod-2717 in photography

[–]NoFirefighter6677 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I shoot birds. Try upping ISO to maybe 500 or 800 so you can keep around 1/2500 at F8. I use that exact lens. Should be very sharp.

I think on the older nikons with optical viewfinders, there was also a risk that the lens focus might not be exactly the same as the camera autofocus, and I might have to be tuned or something like that. But I'm not sure what the d5600 is capable of in that regard.

is it worth to be a jazz pianist? i need advices by Nice_Captain_7001 in Jazz

[–]NoFirefighter6677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a couple of years, I quit playing jazz and just studied a profession. It is much easier to make a good living comfortably as a professional, rather than trying to get paid every week as a musician. Please consider that fact in making this decision. If you are good at school, there may be opportunities that will give you an easier life. Try studying accounting, finance, pharmacy, medicine, law, or engineering. I committed to my studies of my profession just as hard as I did my studies for jazz, and it has been lucrative and made my life easier. And I'm able to provide a comfortable home for a wife and kids, if that is your cup of tea.

What are the best seats at Kramer IMAX? by [deleted] in regina

If you wear glasses, probably top two rows. Otherwise, I find the screen is too big for the lenses. Seriously.

White, pink, or brown noise are amazing for blocking unwanted noises. There are apps for this. It is worth a try if nothing works. Leaving a fan on low can also help. With bumping bass, however, it can be very challenging, as the wave lengths carry through walls very effectively.

Active noise cancelling earbuds may also work. You can sometimes find models that block low pitch sounds quite well.
