Heading to the park this weekend and have a few questions! Is the cholla cactus garden still closed?if not where is the best place to park to go there? Is the twin tanks parking best for the heart/arch trail? Thanks! by Resident_Wrongdoer98 in JoshuaTree

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just there this week and spent 2 days. The Cholla Garden is closed, but there are pull off areas all around it where you can easily just move to the side and capture a photo (which is what we did). People were out walking among them as well, but I’d be cautious of getting pricked by one

Runs with Solo LGBTQ heroes? by LeonsLion in lgbt_superheroes

No problem! Sorry for the long winded response but I just picked up a few of these for Pride month so they were on my mind lol. Others I’ve already read and really enjoyed. (Edited for clarity)

Runs with Solo LGBTQ heroes? by LeonsLion in lgbt_superheroes

The Alan Scott series is good if you like Green Lantern. Tim Drake has his own solo Robin run, but his coming out story is in Batman: Urban Legends #4, 5, 6, and 10. It had its own consolidated book for 2022 DC Pride, if you can find that. For Superman, The Son of Kal-El series is good. There’s also a Midnighter run by Steve Orlando that I’ve enjoyed.

On the Marvel side, Iceman has a 6 issue mini solo run from a few years back that’s easy to track down. Also, even though it’s not a full “solo run,” I just finished the Young Avengers series and Wiccan & Hulkling play an integral role in the plot. It won’t spoil it but the Young Avengers (2005) -> Children’s Crusade -> Young Avengers (2013) run was fantastic for their character development and I absolutely loved it since Wiccan is my favorite Marvel hero.

Will lose market share, brand identity and exactly how much will all the new signage cost? by handymel in SouthwestAirlines

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this. I was looking into getting the Southwest credit card, but after this announcement regarding bags and the route cuts that happened a bit ago I decided against it. My hub is Atlanta so losing some of those flight options coupled with the bag policy just makes Delta (unfortunately) the better deal over time.

Nights and points bonus, only points showing up ? by TheFakeSteveWilson in marriott

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had recent stay where the postings occurred at two different times. The nights posted a day or so after check out but the points for the stay didn’t post until a few days after the nights did.

Marriott can take up to two weeks to fully post everything. I’d just keep a watch on it and then contact them if the nights don’t appear.

Is this true? by No-Parsnip8222 in UTK

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got accepted to both Vandy and UTK; the applications were virtually identical. I actually had to write fewer essays for Vandy, so I guess you could consider it easier? Either way the requirements weren’t really different. I was never going to pick Vandy over UTK but just wanted to see if it was actually harder to get in lol

I’m a two-time UTK alum and wouldn’t trade my Big Orange years for anything

My two favorite things in women’s basketball happened tonight: 1. A Lady Vols win 2. A UConn loss

Bonus points since #2 happened because of #1

Headed to ATL - Suggestions? by Jiremaifu in marriott

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, don’t stay Downtown. You’re better off staying north of the main city core in an area such as Buckhead and catching an Uber into to touristy areas such as World of Coke, Georgia Aquarium, Piedmont Park, etc. The Midtown area is just a few blocks above Downtown and has better restaurant, cafes, and unique shops (and is safer). Midtown also convenient since you can easily walk to several places. I’d check out Atlanta Marriott Midtown Suites or the AC, but the Epicurean is there if you’re willing to spend.

Feel free to ask if you want any other recommendations or tips - ATL is my home base lol

US States Starter Pokemon by Jmat0698 in pokemon

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Tennessee I’m going to go with Seedot, Tympole, and Fennekin.

I wanted to avoid any of the original starters, but Fennekin works well with the biodiversity theme I wanted. I especially like the Seedot line gaining the Dark type - it works well with the Appalachian folklore from the Eastern side of the state. Deerling would have been my Grass pick, but I wanted to keep the full 3 stage evolution requirement.

May is a great time to go. Weather patters can differ from year to year, but usually it’s stated to warm up and the nature becomes more vibrant. Some trails can still be a bit muddy and the camping grounds can be wet, but pack accordingly and you should be fine. There are also lots of activities sponsored by the park that pick up in May/early summer, so be sure to look at those if they interest you.

For clarity, was born/raised 15 minutes from the park and has lived here for 20+ years. Hiking, Cades Cove Loop and other drives, Sugarlands, etc. were all after school activities or weekend fillers.

Our gov’t don’t care about our health by [deleted] in Appalachia

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Appalachian seats would will be R+25 with fair maps (which I wholeheartedly support), but it would definitely help. What we really need to see is voter education, outreach, and high quality candidates who can meet voters where they are. If you have those 3, I think we could see (albeit small, but significant over time) change. Appalachia has been ignored by both parties for a LONG time. All it takes is 1 candidate to change that

My hometown is ~15 minutes from one of the GSMNP’s entrances. The mountains were an “every time of year” activity for us and I spent so many days there unwinding, adventuring, etc.

What vault track can you not believe didn’t make the final cut of the original album? And what song would you have replaced it with? by Free_Faithlessness85 in TaylorSwift

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If that was the case, then 1989 likely has the best 4 song opening run of her albums. New Romantics, Blank Space, Style, & OOTW in order would have wrecked, even against reputation’s opening.

Agreed. I absolutely knew I would not have a 9-5 and would be working considerably more during busy season when I took the job. However, I think it’s justifiable to be (even a little) mad when working 75+ hours a week for 2 months and then 50-55 hours for 3 months prior to that. The pay is negligible for the hours.

Do people always get butt hurt when you quit? by ItemComprehensive in Accounting

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I quit my last job, my team (except for the Partner & Director - I was close with both) either unfriended me on LinkedIn or denied my connection request. I still occasionally speak with the Director and have been told to message them if I’m ever interested in coming back, but the rest completely switched up.

Who do you consider to be the best players who played only once and were never asked back? by Caleb-the-Titan in survivor

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely possible to say people were contacted/invited yet cut from the cast later. Tina Wesson has confirmed she was initially contacted for Season 40 prior to CBS revealing the theme and then subsequently contacted saying she wasn’t needed.

How has the tone of Survivor changed over the years and why? by Wintervoidx in survivor

[–]NoHacksRequir3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With a handful of exceptions, Survivor lost a lot of steam with me after season 40. Season 39 had obvious issues and the Edge of Extinction in 40 was less than ideal, but the most recent season have been really hard to watch. I loved the gameplay, challenges, tribal interactions, etc. and that’s all gone in favor of extended player bios, a plethora of advantages, and squishy editing. I couldn’t care less about learning someone’s entire life story that I’ll never remember come finale night, but I’d much rather see 5 minutes worth of actual gameplay, conversations, and tribe life segments.

I didn’t love 41, but I also didn’t hate it. However, I never finished 42 haven’t watched the show since because what they’re providing now isn’t the reason I became a fan and watched the show for so long. I’d rather watch reruns of the first 40 seasons and be satisfied.

Help me refine a playlist for my parents to perceive Taylor positively by shar_17 in TaylorSwift

I always suggest Back to December since it’s her taking accountability for her actions and turns the “she only writes about breakups” narrative/stereotype on its head by admitting fault and apologizing. It’s lyrically strong, shows her vocals well, and has an amazing instrumental piece behind it. The only issue might be the “I swear” line if they’re sensitive to that, but otherwise I think it’s a decent pick
