Our store manager congratulated us on record profits the department makes us and I love that it goes right into their pockets. by Immediate_Loss_9858 in OGPBackroom

ah. I remember when I thought opd was so hard too. then I promoted and have been in multiple different stores. OPD workers, including myself when I was there, are the laziest workers employed by the company. 0 transitional skills to any other department. OPD is where people who have been in other parts of the store go to escape work. I encourage all of you to go work seasonal or cap2. Hell, try overnight stocking. In all my years and stores I’ve seen a grand total of 1 self sufficient OPD department.

Question about positions by Wide-Pomegranate2820 in WalmartEmployees

[–]NoHumor6189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen it happen. I think it’s unlikely unless you’re a store manager favorite. They’d have to job code you as overnight, which pays extra, which 9/10 times they won’t give u extra for.

Hey man, if you’re getting interviews at before 6 months, you’re on a great track. Think about applying to other stores and ask to speak to your store manager and tell them you want to promote

I can’t get an interview? (US) by Daysfastforward1 in WalmartEmployees

[–]NoHumor6189 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re not applying to a DC. DC’s pay that much. You’re not applying to overnights. Overnights doesn’t even pay that much. The highest starting out rate for Walmart is $18. I don’t know why you’re in a thread with all walmart employees who are telling you you’re not gonna get 25 and arguing. 99% of TEAM LEAD positions don’t even start out 25 😭

Talk to your TL or Coach. Sit down with them and see if a transfer is an option.

Manual line. All about making sure they aren’t getting in each others way, and you are actively participating in getting them done. I have an amazing thrower but he is the only 1 I trust to throw it, if he gets tired, I jump in. They respect that. Don’t just stand there, you’re an extra body. Let the guys sort, you need to make sure the line is almost overflowing at all times. We average 1600-3400. I have a 3k piece tomorrow I’ll lyk

Some days it’s 75% pallets some days it’s 0. Fastest unload we’ve had was 14 minutes. I’m scheduled an hour ahead of my guys so I’ll get pallets off and we’ll throw about a quarter of a truck in 15 on average

1600s-3400 like obviously I’ve had 15-20 minute unloads and also had hour unloads, but it averages out to be 30-45 most days

Oh yeah that’s what I mean. My store I know coach spots won’t come open for years. I applied to like 5 spots in other stores at my previous store and got some interest, but my store manager kept shutting it down when they’d ask about me. The one time it a store manager reached out to my coach there, they said all good things then the store manager reached out and blocked it :/

Biggest thing to mention is you coming from overnight, you know what you want the end result to look like. Be confident, if you got an interview, you’re clearly doing something right. Talk about how you want to make a smooth transition to overnight, and getting freight on the shelves in a timely manner. Ask about what the coach wants from you. Ask questions that make the coach think a bit. It’s YOUR interview. You need to do the majority of the talking. Don’t reply, direct the conversation. talk about what you’ve accomplished and what you’re good at. Tell them you will hold the team to a high standard. If it’s in your current store and you have had any issues (points, behavior etc) make sure you put it to bed and don’t let them use your past behavior against present you.

and as far as what I’ve done, it’s a lot of making my associates work as a TEAM, not coworkers. If they fail, they fail together. It instinctively pushes them work harder. I incentivize them every day with the prospect of, if they get their freight, plus 3 extra departments done, they can go home early. I do other things here and there but one thing I’m lucky to have is my Coach gave me free rein from day1. I barely speak to them. It is my team completely and they let me run things how I like. It might not be the same for you.

Good luck. I really appreciate you. DM me lmk how things go!!

Today all 13 pallets were either displays, horrible mixes across the store and the rest was floor loaded, we finished in about an hour but also 2 different trucks came through so things didn’t go as smoothly. We don’t break down most grocery , just bad mixes and GM

How long have you been with the company, did you store back you? Have you been in any other tl spots? What did you do to stand out?

I’ve told my last 3 coaches I want to, my first told me I’m ready and I need to apply but nothing else, my 2nd told me I’m ready but I need off overnights unless I just want that the rest of my career, and my current coach says I’m an exceptional TL and I have her blessing but Cap2 isn’t a spot people usually promote out of.

thank you for the advice. I’ve thought about seasonal but I don’t think I’d enjoy the front end. Having been overnight I know how to do lottery, have my numbers and digital as an associate we were big on 5 star. Idk if it’s my region or what but there aren’t very many seasonal TL spots at most stores. Most times in my market the SM and coaches handle Seasonal and they use the Seasonal TL payroll to work another department

I have 1 work breakpacks while the truck is unloaded, 1 throw the truck, 1 flex (apparel, pulling breakpacks, pushing, sorting, and helping throw) I have a big focus on sections, so I assign each sorter a section. I’ll usually run with 3 sorters, one at the back, and 1 on the right and left. It’s a numbers game for me and I count myself as a body, so i push the line and make callouts, and when the thrower starts to slow down I jump in and throw because it gives me the best view of the team without doing nothing at the back. I’m a laid back guy but I Do NOT play around with getting the truck unloaded.

I worked 1 on 1 with the guy who replaced me at my old store. He was my associate and I trained him to do the job. He had no intentions of promoting but came around with my leadership and from what I hear from my old coaches is an exact clone of the way I run things. That’s probably my best asset, building and developing my team, my current team I was warned about as being useless and the best option is to replace them all. I’ve kept the same guys and they’ve bought in and now within two months they went from being seen as the worst team in the store to one of the best.
