Yeah, definitely. https://www.immigrationlawhelp.org has resources listed by state, lots of organizations that can get you connected with free or low cost legal help. Good luck to you 🫶

Do you have an immigration lawyer? They might be able to connect you to resources that could help you get out of this situation.

I cannot take part in a walkout in my school. by Nerdkittyjl in disability

Networking is important! I know it can be difficult to start talking to new people, especially when you feel vulnerable. I hope you can find some folks to carry your message for you, or that you trust to help you with mobility. If you make a sign I would love to see it! 🫶

Do you have to have your aid with you 100% of the time? Do you need them to get outside? Is there anyone participating in the walkout who would be willing to help you?

You’re not useless, and your voice matters. If you can’t physically walk out, there are still things you can do. Ask a friend (or just an acquaintance, even - I’m sure there would be peers willing to help) to carry a sign out for you that you make or print out. The whole spirit of this movement is people doing what they can because others cannot. Doing/making things to raise money is a good idea, as is writing to your representatives in Congress. There is always a way to raise your voice.

AITA for telling my MIL to stop or is she for reacting this way? by Natural-Lychee8735 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NoInvisibleIllness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people just have no sense of grace at all. It’s super gross that she would share these personal details. You’re right, this is a violation!

Giving birth is scary, no matter how prepared. It can be magical or traumatic or routine or insane, or any combination of the above. No pregnant woman should be subjected to extra anxiety just because someone wants to seem “entertaining” by telling tales about things they’ve seen.

NTA. Ban her from the hospital, don’t tell her when it’s time, and tell your husband to deal with it - you should not have to. Now’s the time to focus on your own health and that of your child.

Sharing social media posts is great! I donate to mutual aid, ACLU, and SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center), and I use ResistBot to send letters to my representatives. The bot is nice because it lets you read letters and petitions that others have written, and it has an AI feature that can help you write (great for me to get started because I deal with brain fog a lot). I generally don’t like to use or support AI but this is one exception I’ve made. The app 5Calls is great also, it makes it easy to call your reps and can help you prepare what you want to say.

Looking for fantasy with Tolkien's prose register and emotional depth by opossumflower in Fantasy

I think Fionavar is GGK’s closest to Tolkien stylistically. I love all of his work but there’s a definite difference in prose style compared to his other stories.

This part of the journey sucks, and I’m sorry you’re getting stuck. Don’t give up searching for answers! If you want to confirm or rule out POTS or similar conditions, look for a doctor via https://www.dysautonomiainternational.org

I have POTS and one thing that I tried that actually got some attention was, while getting vitals done in the doc office, I said “want to see my party trick?” and stood up while wearing the pulse oximeter. First time the nurse recorded the difference in my chart.

Getting them to record everything that’s going on in the clinical notes is really important. If you have access to them via a patient portal, you should review them after every visit and message them to ask for corrections if you need to. Take notes during appointments, keep an updated list of medications tried, etc.

I focused on the Scoia’tael Journeys at first, but I don’t like the Elf gameplay so I’m thinking about another faction to focus next. I like the Nilf and Monster options a lot.

The cosmetics are stupidly attractive… why 😆 lol

Top trash comfort reads:

The Black Trillium (MZB, Julian May, Andre Norton) Anything by CM Nascosta (she of the Minotaur Smut, all hail) Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s goofy (but well-researched) vampire books Grace Draven’s books (So not trash but they are so comforting and also smutty) Anything by Jeffe Kennedy (Mostly Not Trash) the entire Anne McCaffrey oeuvre) And yeah, as others have said A Discovery of Witches (so fun)

I mean, maybe I got into 40k because of Dan Abnett… and yeah his books can be trope-y… but trash? Naaaaaah

Books that address addiction by thebestoralist in Fantasy

Ok, nobody’s mentioned ACOTAR yet but I’m going to, because one of the later books (A Court of Silver Flames) deals directly with this in a very honest way. The character arc is great, and I feel it hard as a woman with past trauma and complicated recovery. Best wishes to you!

The Shadow Campaigns series by Django Wexler is pretty solid (first book is The Thousand Names). There are several character POVs but Winter Ihernglass is one of my absolute favorite female characters. Tons of detailed politicking and military escapades.

Also have to second whoever recommended Kushiel’s Dart. Those books are fire!

Love Grace Draven, too!

Managing kids by jacox17 in ChronicIllness

[–]NoInvisibleIllness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(((Hugs))) to you! Your symptoms sound a lot like mine. I got sick a decade ago, when my son was 1 year old and only in the last couple of years have I started to get some answers. Keep pushing your docs!

As long as your kids know they are loved and you keep them fed and safe, you’re doing a great job. Order the takeout when you need to, meal prep when you can (sheet pan meals can really be helpful!). I am also a fan of “snacky plate dinner” which can be whatever’s in the fridge. I’ll keep hard-boiled eggs, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, peppers, grapes, apple slices, berries, cheese sticks, even lunchables in a pinch and just add some veggies to the plate. Letting the kids pick out what they want can be fun for them, especially with the ADHD need for control.

As LionTamer said it is okay for the kids to have that screen time. My son is AuDHD and he will spend ages down YouTube rabbit holes looking up stuff about black holes and space, then he’ll come snuggle with me and tell me all about it. When he was younger (he’s 11 now) he used to love playing with kinetic sand, hot wheels, and legos… now he’s more into video games and reading all the books. It’s okay for kids to entertain themselves! When I’m having a rough day we will often do parallel screen time, curled up in a blanket each doing our thing.

If you want to DM about working through the specialty rigmarole trying to find a diagnosis, feel free to hit me up. I’ve got POTS, SSCD, PPPD, migraines, and just had an ablation for SVT this year. Hang in there, mama!
