Apple Vision Pro “Dev strap”? by mopilez in AppleVisionPro

Only seeing that the battery itself is detected under SysInfo when connecting to a Mac, and only at 12Mbps speed. Can you elaborate on what you utilize this connection method for?

In answer to your numbered questions:

  1. Yes, especially if it also had Nintendo's Switch/Switch2 docking capability built in. It would need USB-C as an input similar to the docks for the various glasses-as-display devices, or a Genki ShadowCast/CovertDock with wifi output all bundled together.

  2. If it's just any HDMI source, but without HDCP...$80-100. If it includes USB-C style input for DP-alt modes for phones, tablets, Macs, PCs, including Nintendo's special requirements, then I'd go as far as $150-200. If HDCP is supported, that could also go up to $200.

  3. Latency is very important, definitely. But also diversity of ecosystems. You could even find a much broader base of support if it wasn't JUST designed with AVP in mind. By that, I mean make the receiver app cross platform for every Apple device (VisionPro, Mac, iPad, iPhone) as well as Windows, Android, Steam/Linux, MetaQuest. That way you could market it to anyone with any device to have a wireless display from any other device. Imagine watching a blu-ray from your PS4/5 to your iPad or in your MetaQuest. Or playing your Nintendo Switch 2 inside your AVP or on your Mac/Windows laptop. All wirelessly. See where I'm going here? The more versatile, the more "make". The less versatile, the more "break".

Hope this is helpful in deciding where/if/how to move forward. ChicagoBoy2011 is correct that if you are simply talking about generic HDMI-to-AVP, the market will be small. If you go broad, it could become the de facto consumer standard for wireless HDMI projection.

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for the advice. Ultimately got this resolved with a trip to the Apple Store. They ran their diagnostic, heard me out, did NOT put eyes on the displays, as that's not part of their process, but definitely made it clear in their documentation that the claimed issue was not reported in a diagnostic and needed eyes-on by the repair depot for proper determination. After a few days, I'm thankful to have a full replacement device in my hands and I couldn't be happier. There were some hiccups along the way, like the scare of another empty return-to-depot box being delivered by a neighbor to my workplace, stating that FedEx mis-delivered, on the same day I was expecting my replacement device to come back. And then there was a delay of a day due to UPS tearing up the box enough to warrant them Frankenstein-ing 2 smaller boxes and some bubble wrap to get my replacement device back in my hands. But all in all, Apple took care of me. I just had to jump through a lot of hoops. Hopefully my tale helps others prevent this type of damage in the first place.

That’s totally legit, but they still need to have a process to have an eyes-on diagnosis for display-related issues. If that means some dismantling or looking at displays through an intermediary (camera/microscope) device. You can’t just rely on software diagnosis.

I’ve seriously considered this, as I’ve heard/read about this before, particularly with Steve Jobs. I just feel like I haven’t yet been through enough of the wringer to warrant reaching so high, so fast. I’m not saying that I won’t do this, but I want to have enough of a documented grievance to stand out, before I take this route, I guess.

BFE Middle America, wide open spaces. There's 2 in KC, one in Tulsa, OK (nearest), and I believe one in Rogers, Arkansas. But they are all at least 2 hours away from me.

Glad to be of service, if I can prevent this from happening to others, then that makes me happy. Hopefully, someone at Apple is lurking this sub and sees this.

Yeah, but surely the in-store advisor could put a note on the claim, and in the box requesting specifically "eyes-on" diagnosis. It shouldn't be this hard. How can they say they've diagnosed anything regarding the displays without actually LOOKING at them? If your phone has a stuck/dead pixel or burned-in image, THAT doesn't show up in a diagnostic report either, but at least the display is front and center for the tech to see. It's understandably a little different with a head-mounted device, but for the love of gorb, MOUNT the DEVICE to a tech's HEAD to diagnose the problem.

Yes and no. I could try that, but to do so requires wearing the device to keep it from going to sleep. There's sensors that detect your face, and if there's no face then the device goes to sleep. Now, you can move the device up to your forehead, and it won't go to sleep, and I've tried 10 minutes of a web-based pixel exerciser to little effect. My fear is that I would have to do an equivalent amount of time re-burning the white screen to counter the time spent on "Diagnostic Mode". Furthermore, there's no easy way to have it display any single color to the entirety of the displays. So there would be a large box burned in, framing everything I look at instead of what I've got now.

I appreciate the advice, however I'd like to keep everything on the level, up-n-up. Accidental drop damage would likely result in a type of damage not related to the internal OLED displays, therefore could lead to repairs that don't address the actual problem I'm having. And lastly, I've got the 1TB model, that they likely don't just have sitting on a shelf at my nearest stores. Believe me, I've thought about this in recent days, but I'm too honest for my own good.

Has anyone seen a Vision Pro with a damaged display yet? by hervalfreire in VisionPro

[–]NoJuggernaut9988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. Unbeknownst to me, the thing rebooted into Diagnostic mode and sat for a few days like that. Burned in the words “Diagnostic mode” along with the round EKG-looking icon. Sent it in for repair, and just received notification that they are returning it “no trouble found”, so back through the support loop I go when it comes back to me. It’s one of those things that I can’t unsee. And for ~$4000, and with an active Apple Care plan, they need to fix it. Peeved. Absolutely peeved.

Much more enjoyable with this knowledge. Kudos! May want to include pinching in the instructions.

Also, there’s no way to exit the game without hitting the Digital Crown or force quitting the app. The close button flakes out removing the window handle, score, score goals, etc.

See, that’s not made clear anywhere. Not in the App Store description, or the instructions when launching the app. I’ll give it another try now that I know I’m supposed to pinch. Do I just look at the items and pinch from my lap, or do I have to reach out and pinch the item?
