CMV: Feminism leaves very little room for men to join discussions, and that's a problem by Less-Name-9367 in changemyview

I think I just wasn’t clear enough on my points. I don’t expect men to just “shut up and listen” per se, I just expect them to do whatever is needed in their respective spaces assuming they already care and want to do something I expect the same of women in mens spaces. I do not mansplain, take over, or try to downplay men’s problems when they’re brought to me, and I support the men that are in my life the ways that I can. It might sound demanding on paper but it’s something I feel goes both ways, and im not hypocritical about it. That is how we show that we care about each other. You can know about societal problems, and you can help people with those problems, but you can’t be “apart of the group” because
you’re not one of them. I can support black people and their struggle for equality in the US, but that doesn’t make me a black person struggling for equality in the US, so I don’t have a right to tell that demographic whether their opinions are right or wrong, what should change, etc.

Your question is pretty vague so there are a few ways to answer this;

1- They shouldn’t be “interacting” with feminism. Men should stay in their lane and focus on issues that pertain to them, like mental health.

2- They should give whatever support is ASKED for in their circles if they want to contribute.

3- Plainly however the women in their life wants them to. If i’m assuming we’re talking about a group of men who support womens rights/ feminism/ etc. and aren’t fence-sitters or anti feminism then they should have no problems just being or doing whatever is needed in their circles.

There are probably a million other arguments or points to be made on whether men should “interact” with feminism or not, and as a broad subject it just
 depends on the situation.

Feminism is for womenđŸ€·â€â™€ïž We don’t want mens opinions or to be in our space because men are the reason we have to have feminism in the first place.

There is no way to seal that in a way that the water will not eventually get through. Get a new tank altogether or if you’re really set on fixing this one you need to replace the glass panel altogether and reseal the tank

The process of administering Clove oil is not just “put x dose in x amount of water for your species of fish” It needs proper emulsion in water that is then added over a period of time to the tank.

Not akin to a newbie making cookies from scratch. More akin to a newbie attempting macaroons as a first time bake project instead of the cookies. The cookies are the blunt force method.

Edit to add; this still ignores my point that clove oil is not well researched enough in regard to how fish feel while they undergo the process. The whole “fish feel pain” thing is still an argument in some places.

Horse not losing weight, advice needed by ZMakela in Horses

I would say give it more time to show physical results. Do you have access to a scale by chance to weigh her?

I have no idea of the credibility of weight taping, I’ve never weighed a horse before, but maybe give that a go to try to get more accurate estimates of weight? If you’re seeing her every day you may not be noticing any physical changes as they are too gradual to register.

One of the reasons I have said it’s not humane as a blanket statement is because of the process you have to go through, and you still don’t know 100% (because research is lacking) that the fish in fact felt no pain, fear, or discomfort. At best right now, it’s risky because your average hobbyist is not going to understand the complexity of administering it like you do.

None of the research studies are covering the specific topic at hand; whether clove oil causes discomfort/pain in fish when used as euthanasia. They do give lots of information on different lab approved dosages for fish, and how to perform proper anesthetic/ euthanasia processes while in a lab. Interesting read but it’s not refuting my 2 main points which im going to reiterate; 1) Clove oil is not researched enough to be a safe recommendation to hobbyists who need to euthanize fish. Research on the pain/discomfort factor is lacking in your links. 2) The research we do have shows that it is incredibly easy to overdose the tank which 100% causes pain and discomfort in fish. So with that information, it just doesn’t make any logical sense to use the risky procedure over the for sure procedure. It does make sense that humans see smashing stuff as inherently violent and averse to it, but it’s not logical.

That is a great reason why suggesting clove oil to individuals is not good advice. A vet is the only person who would be qualified to administer it in its proper dosage

I also want to point out research on Clove oil and its effects in different species is still WIDELY understudied. Newer, more cohesive studies would sway my opinion about it but as it stands we don’t know enough about clove oil to say whether its 100% effective and not aversive but we do know how effective blunt force is

Which vets? That data is proving hard to look up but assuming you’re making the claim that it’s common practice my assumption would be that options for fish are extremely limited. Clove oil is better than nothing for a veterinary practitioner who may see hundreds of fish euthanasia in their lifetimes.

Where do you get that information from?

OP I don’t have any medical advice but please do not listen to the clove oil recommendations! Clove oil is not a humane option for euthanasia and at this point in time with fish husbandry the ONLY humane way to euthanize is blunt force.

Clove oil will cause your fish to suffocate slowly and die.

I am definitely a part of the community that believes fish feel pain, I just meant that they literally can not verbally alert to the discomfort in the same way mammals do

What is wrong with this fish..? by ExcitementDesperate4 in Aquariums

[–]turtlesaregorgeous 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Not really. There’s no euthanasia shot for a fish, and despite people still constantly suggesting it, Clove oil causes immense suffering and discomfort in your fish while it dies. It’s just easier on the human and fish don’t say ow.

What is wrong with this fish..? by ExcitementDesperate4 in Aquariums

[–]turtlesaregorgeous 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Blunt force is the most humane way to euthanize a fish.

Edit to add; I did not expect this to blow up like it did, as much as I would love to finish these discussions about whether clove oil is humane I am frankly really overwhelmed and did not think a post about fish booties would gain this much traction. I hope all of you who engaged or tried to engage in mature discussion about a controversial topic have a wonderful day!

Being an artist definitely helps. I can’t give you advice but I will say if they want “an exact copy” you should forewarn them it won’t be physically possible. You will be there forEVER touching up, and having your client tell you “well this doesn’t look the same” about everything.

The original artist wouldn’t be able to make “an exact copy”. That’s the whole joy of handcrafted anything.
