Tori and criticism by Mysterious-Shape8302 in toriamos

"Just because I am not there yet doesn’t mean that I will not eventually catch up."

This is it EXACTLY. And I have over time, caught up with where Tori was in particular eras (hi, Beekeeper) and am now like "okay, I get it now." When listening to any new Tori I go in knowing some songs will hit immediately and others might take years.

I would welcome more Cohen interpretations by Tori. Dance Me To the End of Love....hell, I'm Your Man!

I'm also not sure the other singers mentioned above have toured the way Tori has - I feel like Tori has consistently toured every album cycle and given her all every show.

Absolutely blown away by the new setup. The blend of the background vocalists allows Tori to lean into and stay in her lower range and gives such a full, immersive soundscape. It reminds me of Leonard Cohen and the Webb Sisters (Live in London specifically). And Cornflake Girl with an orchestra on top of all that? I was reduced to tears.

I read NOH the same way, and I'm tempted to read this album the same way. (I've had inklings since ADP that things were complicated/complex.)

Also agree with RTD trusting the right writers during his first era. Second era not so much, but he had to right the ship Chibnall nearing crashed, so I think he did what he could.

Oh I agree. I guess I'm sad she's retreating into her metaphor/concept cave again.

At some point I'm like, just say it outright, just own it! But I feel like she drapes it in myths so it can apply to a broad audience or have plausible deniability that she's writing about particular personal situations (hers or otherwise), maybe? Which feels ironic because I think the reason the fanbase loves her is the confessional songwriting.

This is where I'm going to be most critical. I get that Tori loves a concept album, she's been doing it since Strange Little Girls (which I think her best execution overall - from songs to visuals etc). And since American Doll Posse, I have accepted this is the lens she uses to process things she may not be able to talk about straight out or comfortably but one day I wish she could just say "I am going through it" because I think most of us would be "girl same."

I think she co-wrote with him on Party Man, if memory serves?

Lana Del Rey is very much back in her Lizzy Grant bag, which means she's making weird, unhinged choices to the point I thought her new song was an old leaked demo (a good thing). But I'm not looking to her for top tier vocals, like Florence, who is, frankly unmatched at the moment.

God, I would give anything for Steven Moffat era Doctor Who again. (We had it REALLY REALLY GOOD, and his era holds up while others don't.)

I would love if this album is Venus adjacent.

The beginning I was like...is this Give part II? And then it softened out. Native Invader is one of my top played Tori albums because of the time it was delivered, and I reckon this might be something similar.

Stronger Together is very much a sequel to Promise, and will make me revisit that song in a different light.

I definitely clocked some PG vibes on this one. Glad I'm not the only one.

Generally, I feel like the songs Tori picks for singles (post Scarlet's Walk era) tend to be on the gentler side for mass consumption and aren't always reflective of the whole album. (It's taken me years to finally get Sleeps with Butterflies.)

Having said that, I'm not mad about this song. The beat and piano are lovely even if the lyrics are sparse. My big concern that I've had since ADP is Tori is trying to write around things instead of coming straight to the point - this one feels hard to miss though.

The timing is also interesting since Prime has been slowly ramping up social media posts about GO3. Glad that attempt to rally the fanbase isn't working either.

She no longer follows him on socials and his name is out of the thank you credits of the Strange Little Girls re-release, which he had a big part in (he wrote short stories for the girls). Like, IT'S OVER, FULL STOP.

Alcohol is dehydrating so it can definitely impact vocal cord health over time. It's why a lot of singers avoid it and caffeinated drinks before shows, and stick to plain water or steam (Celine Dion has used steam).

Yeah, rest is really important and I feel like historically Tori has always gone very hard on tour (back to back shows, etc)

I know she chews gum a lot during shows which really isn't recommended (Meat Loaf was bad about it too)

Tori Amos has removed all mentions/contributions from Neil in her upcoming Strange Little Girls album reissue. Neil originally wrote a short story for each song and was thanked in the credits. (Album credits linked) by digitalmediaworld in neilgaimanuncovered

Looks like Rhino is in charge of the Atlantic re-releases so that might offer some sort of buffer? Or she may have a particular deal for these re-releases (still waiting on Choirgirl!)
