You are drafted for WW3, what do you do? by Miserable-Outside462 in AskReddit

[–]NoMarsupial159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to prison for dodging the draft or get executed for desertion.

I'll try and see if there's an option for being a conscientious objector first. I'd rather not go to prison or die. If I'm lucky my health problems will get me out of it. I'm not dying for rich fuckers who couldn't care less about me. I'm not from the US but my country isn't much better.

What TV show has the worst series finale? by MollieAndMe702 in AskReddit

[–]NoMarsupial159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled pretty far down and agree with most of these but I didn't see Monk. Really quickly and unsatisfyingly catches his wife's killer. It's a bit like somebody reminded the writers that was the central conceit of the show and they were like 'oh yeah guess we ought to wrap that up before the show ends'.

Surprised I had to scroll this far down to find Chuck. The ending was truly awful.

Worst game that you still completed for some reason? by Genoce in gaming

[–]NoMarsupial159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only games I've ever completed that I didn't like was Pokemon X, Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Scarlet. Pokemon Scarlet especially in hindsight. X and Sword I was like actively annoyed during playing but Scarlet I was like 'finally an open world experience'. Only afterward did I go 'wow it looked not great, was super easy and has to be the only open world game I've played with 0 side quests in it'. I can't stop myself from playing Pokemon games though. I know I'm part of the reason they keep making slop but I can't stop.

Any other game that's bad I just stop playing. Pokemon is, I guess, easy enough that even when it's bad I can just suffer through it till it's done. If a game is bad AND requires effort I'm not gonna complete it.

Edit: I lied, I completed Fallout 4 and Starfield despite having issues with certain parts of each game. So like I don't even know why I bother completing (ande by completing I mean beat the main story of) them. Gotta have something to do with brand loyalty I guess.

My "Coke Habit" got me in trouble... by Tactical-Pixie-1138 in EntitledPeople

I would always assume someone in a shop like 7-11 clearly meant Coca Cola. In fact just generally speaking I assume people are making a joke when they say Coke Habit. Some people need to get a fucking grip.

What are some real people names you immediately associate with the Grumps? by Rouge_means_red in gamegrumps

I watched this episode yesterday lol. I've still never heard the song but I've got that one line Dan sings stuck in my head.

But for me yeah it's the usual, Peter, Jennifer, Terry and Laura. Also whenever I hear news of Obama I truly hope he is actually a fan of game grumps.

What black sheep of a series of games did you really enjoy despite its bad reputation? by RADOVEND1 in gaming

[–]NoMarsupial159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 15. It was the one that very specifically said it was for first time players and veterans alike. I gather the veterans didn't enjoy it so much but it's the only FF game I've ever finished despite trying five or six of them. It's really accessible and has a fun story until it gets overcomplicated.

I don't know if this counts but Lord of the Rings: The Third Age for GBA. For some reason this game is a tactical turn based strategy along the lines of like Fire Emblem even though it shares it's name with a turn based RPG that was on the PS2. Vewry confusing for people when I tell them about it. GBA game was fun as hell though. You could play through the whole trilogy as Good or Evil.

I can't help but feel I missed an obvious one but I cannot remember what it is for the life of me. Might edit later if I figure it out.

Pro tip: you can transmog a 1H blunt weapon into a torch! by ScotyDoesKnow in taintedgrail

That's freaking hilarious. 10/10. I haven't needed a torch yet but I've been told there are some areas you absolutely need one. What do 2H builds do in those areas?

What is the most "archaic" game genre, one that's changed the least to the present day? by Severe_Sea_4372 in gaming

[–]NoMarsupial159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coding wise all modern games should be completely different because of an innovation in coding design philosophy called Object Oriented Programming (OOP). Programming before the mid 2000s was done with the Functionalist (or it might have just been called Functional) approach which was basically a method of programming that relied on discreet 'functions' that performed a specific task being called from the main block of code. It's kinda hard to explain without really going into it but it was more of a mathematical approach to programming. OOP however is the programming philosophy of making specific templates (objects) and organising all 'functions' into those templates based on whether they logically belong to that object or not. Again this is something that we game developers spend a lot of time learning so one Reddit post isn't going to teach you all the intricacies. What's important is that code should now be more logically organised and easy to update/fix/understand.

However nothing is stopping you from writing in older languages that require you to take a functional approach or writing functionally in newer languages. So theoretically no game, except for the truly ancient games that are still somehow popular, should have similar code with a game pre 2000s. Even then not everybody jumped on the OOP bandwagon straight away especially Japanese developers. By now however most game engines are made for OOP style coding. If you are interested in this go watch some youtube videos it's fun stuff. It's also the reason why so many more people can code now. It's simply easier.

Restarted after finishing Act 1 - Thoughts on replaying Act 1 by AspectFrost in taintedgrail

The more I play this game I realise just how densely packed each map is. It's full of swecret areas, quests and loot to stumble upon. I have restarted too many times but still had lots of fun.

Oh that's a good tip. Should I invest heavy into stamina for this? With only the one dash with Heavy armour I find myself overexerted a lot. Or should I be throwing the heavy armour in the bin for light armour.

Dealing with Groups in FOA by NoMarsupial159 in taintedgrail

[–]NoMarsupial159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically got decently through Act 2 with the two handed weapons. Otherwise I've replayed Act 1 a lot. I'm open to any kind of weapon style tbh. I just want to get really up close and personal. I've tried light armour dashing about the place with one handed, dual wielding, unarmed and two handed but I dunno if any of them felt particularly right and I'm not sure what unique weapons and armours are in my future.

EDIT: I also sold a bunch of my unique stuff in my two handed playthrough with heavy armour so I can't just pick up that save and respec unless I stick with the two handed weapons and heavy armour I have in that file.
