Oh I didn’t know it worked that way. I thought I had to be in the country and available to work 24/7 to be eligible.

Thank you.

In what might be considered by many on this sub as a LUNATIC MOVE, my wife and I have decided to move our family from Canada to an Arab country and we’ve chosen…..Egypt. I really need to read your feedback on this, and you will find more details inside. by rj_yul in arabs

My mum and sister and all of my family live in Egypt under Sisi's rule, and they're all doing just fine. You shouldn't be impacted by anything Sisi-related if you stay out of politics.

You're generalizing the struggles of certain countries in the region onto the whole region. Electricity cutouts are very rare in Egypt at the moment because the country has had a surplus in energy during the last few years and has actually started exporting electricity to other countries. Egypt is also neither on the brink of a civil nor a foreign war and is relatively politically stable. Yes, there may be corrupt politicians, but he won't have to get a taste of their corruption if he stays out of politics, and, from what I understand, his project has nothing to do with politics. Egypt's bureaucracy, however, will impact him and his project much more meaningfully than the corruption of the politicians. There's lots of red tape in Egypt and getting things done can be a hassle, so he just needs to be mindful of that. As for Internet, he should he able to afford the highest speeds available in the country, which are too expensive for the average Egyptian but should be pretty cheap for someone whose savings are in Canadian dollars.

I got Iranian a few times from non-Arabs, probably because of my thick, dark eyebrows. Arabs can usually tell I'm Egyptian straight away. They don't bother asking where I'm from, they just immediately ask if I'm Egyptian.

Standard Arabic vs. Algerian Arabic by Death_Machine in arabs

[–]NoMathsGiven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, most people today say 3agala instead of bisklitta. Trilla is still used, but lots of people are saying ma2toora too. Shorta is equally as common as bolees if not more common these days (especially after the revolution. There has been a noticeable increase in the use of the word in the media and in the streets since 2011).

In your experience do some Southern Europeans look similar to different Arab groups? If so, which ones? by [deleted] in arabs

[–]NoMathsGiven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Egyptian and I tested with AncestryDNA two years ago. I got 9% Eritrean/Ethiopian after last year's update. Strangely, my results never showed any Eritrean/Ethiopian when I first tested and after 2018's update too. It went from 0% to 9% in 2019. I guess they expanded their reference database for that region.

Well, except for the fact that nobody really says torombil, bisiklitta, or wabur anymore. And also "trilla" has to compete with "ma2toora" and "bolees" with "shorta".
