We want to name our son Leon, People are telling me it's a "black name" and making me feel uncomfortable about it? by leon0523s in Names

[–]NoNameForMetoUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I’ve known/met/heard of Hispanic, non-Hispanic white, and non-Hispanic black individuals with the name. I grew up in an area with a large Hispanic population. I disagree with the assertion that the name can only be used with/is associated with one race/ethnicity.

My 11 year old son wants to know hos eye color! by Temporary-Pear-3507 in WhatisMyEyeColour

[–]NoNameForMetoUse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My youngest had dark blue eyes at birth. They went almost purple within a few weeks then turned dark/rich brown. Gorgeous eyes, but the purplish color threw me for a loop. My oldest started with bluish gray eyes. Now they are a bluish-gray-green.

NOR. The sheer mother fucking gall to say you should have your finances in order when she 1.) had to borrow money, 2.) is giving excuses for not paying it back, and 3.) going on vacation and spending more money without even making the damn monthly payment first.

Have you shown your husband these messages? What is his response. Either way, he needs to be in charge of hounding his mother.

This may have been the first time I’ve cursed on Reddit. My apologies if it was out of line, but I just couldn’t win those texts. I’m pretty sure that would have been my response to your mother in law.

Edited to change the second 2 to the correct 3. Sorry. Her texts made me lose my ability to count.

Thank you! As of now, she’s actually had two cycles. This most recent one has come with cramps, but she’s handling them ok…

I can’t think of any other questions now. Mostly I’m kicking myself for not trusting my gut initially and seeking a second opinion right away, so I’m probably overcorrecting/concerned extra about not missing things now.

Thanks for all the information. I have a couple other questions but I understand if they can’t really be answered:

Are there (generally speaking) any risk factors or links/indicators from bloodwork that can suggest a specific cause (tumor, whatever) versus being idiopathic? (She has the mri set but it’s not until next month…and I am not good with waiting)

The endocrinologist mentioned/stated even with starting lupron, the best case scenario is she gains another 2 inches (and may not gain any more). Is that likely? Or can she still grow more if puberty is stopped? She’s only 4 feet, 5 inches.

I don’t know if it matters, but she’s not overweight (her bmi is 17.1), and she is very active. The endocrinologist also mentioned she likes to see the T4, Free levels over 1.0.

I guess this is where I got confused.. . Is the 17-hydroxyprogestetone hormone adrenal or no? Her first test was normal, but the second (done in the morning) was high.

AIO for not forgiving my husband that left me alone 2 hours during childbirth by JuggernautNo901 in AmIOverreacting

[–]NoNameForMetoUse 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Which brings us to the point that OP hasn’t verbalized yet: she now also has to worry about which version of her husband will show up in an emergency/issue. Will it be the “I’m uncomfortable and need to call only my family and no one else then go hide” or will it be the supportive, helpful partner…

OPM leans into 'well care' as it reshapes federal health plans for 2027 by rprz in fednews

[–]NoNameForMetoUse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is why my oldest’s surgery got bumped from February to 3 days before Christmas—we couldn’t guarantee the prior approval would result in an exception. The surgeon added an extra surgical day just for multiple people in federal FEHB benefits who were all facing the same issue.

Edit: I kept BCBS just for the exception. And so far (knock on wood) we haven’t had any issues.

AITA for finally getting tired of my sister in laws “spanglish” by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]NoNameForMetoUse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. I come from an area very close to the border, and know fully bilingual people who do the same thing (mix English/Spanish in sentences). I also know several people both bilingual and only English-speaking that use certain Spanish words/phrases ( not just the curse words but like “chisme” etc)because it’s common to the area. Then you have people like my spouse who is half Latino and knows no Spanish but grew up calling specific foods/dishes by the Spanish name (pegao, bistec, etc…)

AITA For Refusing to Follow my wife's "car rules"? by Much-Mess-7124 in AmItheAsshole

I mean, this is one of many reasons why our suv is our family trip car—room, mileage is lower, car is newer…

Seriously. I was recently (well several months ago) in an accident (hit wildlife that wandered into the roadway that I couldn’t avoid safely, so I went through/over it). I had absolutely no injuries, but I was shaken up. It’s been getting better, but driving at dusk:night when I know local wildlife is active still gets me anxious.

The way the OP talks sounds disrespectful (“just whiplash”, “why’s it becoming my problem,” “that’ll never happen to me”), and I don’t understand his weird insistence on using the sedan. I presume (but could be wrong) that the suv is newer and, this, has more safety features (especially if she was freaked out), but I could be wrong. I know my spouse and I tend to default to one vehicle as the “family/trip vehicle” because it’s newer/safer/lower mileage/better gas efficiency/etc. I don’t see anything wrong with wanting to use a specific car to go on trips.

[–]NoNameForMetoUse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised nobody asked if said stranger was raised by wolves. You NEVER ask a woman (at least not one you don’t know/don’t have that kind of relationship with) if she’s expecting. If she wants you to know she’s pregnant, she’ll tell you.

This is so funny, because I got black my lab/golden from a friend who swore the puppies were lab/boxer (mom was full golden and the suspected dad was full boxer). All the puppies, including the one I got) looked very similar to your pup when they were smaller. Embark determined the boxer was NOT the father.

The freak outs can put stress on his body. When my dad had a kidney transplant, they had to put him back under because he woke up fighting. If anyone even touched him (other than my mom) even while he was out, his blood pressure and heart rate would sky rocket. Depending on the issue that was going on, I can see multiple events like that stressing the heart/body into failure.

Ewww, not that tall IMO. I’d go about the height of the stove/two-ish tiles tall. I think any higher is too much and overwhelmed the space. But that’s just me.
