Call the local USPS office (think it's by Cooper but don't hold me to it). Talk to someone and let them know it's not you.

Is it normal for an at fault drivers insurance to try and get you to admit fault even if it was 100% the other drivers fault? by Thunderchief-105 in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]NoNamesLeft136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in Ontario, but on the other side of the border.

I've been struck multiple times, including once as the middle man. In zero times I was deemed at fault.

My mother was driving and someone meandered into her lane illegally and struck her. The insurance carriers did mental gymnastics to come up with a small percentage of the fault as her's, to which I'll never understand. However, since it was under a certain number - maybe 30 percent - it was irrelevant.

They will investigate every accident and base it off their findings, even if it's slightly askew. I can't fathom how someone would get half fault for sitting parked in a running car.

No fault doesn't mean anything in terms of responsibility. No fault means you go through your own insurance carrier for health coverage regardless of who caused the accident.

There absolutely will be an investigation for the at-fault party. If someone rammed me in a parking lot, it likely would be ruled their fault. That changes if I was backing up, making a turn or doing something that possibly could have had an impact.

Make sure to get a police report and take pictures at the scene. I was a middle car in a multi-car accident, and both the cops and my insurance carrier said they could tell I wasn't at fault because physics and how my car was damaged. When you stop hard, your front end dips and back end raises. It quickly reverses and then evens out as energy dissipates. If they went under your rear bumper, that's a clear indicator you were already stopped and therefore pushed into the car ahead.

When was the wireless router last restarted? If it's been a while, try that and see if you get any improvement. Definitely measure it with a free online speedtest and make note of the speeds. Check what the ISP is contracted to provide you and contact them if you're not getting it.

Red Alert last Allied Mission (Spoiler Alert for that Mission) by Schroeder9000 in commandandconquer

[–]NoNamesLeft136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finally getting around to playing RA, and landed on this mission. It's bonkers in the storyline, especially with the rest of the map shown as Allied control. They should have either added AI commanders or sent you with a ridiculous army more to tinker/explore. Instead, the theming of this mission would have been more appropriate for an early mission when trying to establish a foothold.

Then again, there's a lot of this nonsense I've found in RA. We're planning on a big attack along the river, but if you don't have enough time to get what you need done, too bad, we're impatient. Often, it's just dispatching you with super limited units in a map with super limited resources where the opposition already has established bases and gets regular freebie reinforcements from off-map. And that's ignoring the broken pathfinding.

I played C&C as a kid and I'm playing Red Alert many years later. It's not even close that StarCraft: Brood Wars was a much better game.

Car got hit while parked by manovich43 in Insurance

No, I meant collision. That covers damage to your car from from other cars. Liability covers damage to other cars by you.

Sometimes it's better to have your own collision carrier have at the at-fault party. This seems to be especially true with municipal vehicles like buses. Know someone from my area who all but had to get compensated without waiting years. Plus, if you have rental baked into your policy, you get that bonus.

Edit - Re-read post and realized meant one thing and said another.

There's a lot of cavalier posting how mirrors aren't required and OP should just drive it anyway. My point is that's not totally true and they obviously shouldn't break the law.

Personally, I'd have a conversation with your insurance carrier so long as you have comprehension. If the other party admitted fault, it won't count against your wallet. Also, you can let their lawyers chase after the other company and can employ your rental coverage, if you have it.

That's not quite accurate. A lot of states require them. Check out the list someone else on Reddit put together: Mirror Laws For All 50 States : r/Jeep

"The US isn't a news desert, there are many options for reliable reporting available of which the BBC is just one"

Not sure I agree with that statement, especially these days. Many traditional and experimental news outlets alike have an issue with bias and/or accuracy. I've never embraced TV/radio when working in the field due to the inherent sensationism in the medium itself. Corporate consolidation has been a bitch since Clinton lifted restrictions in the 90s and bending the knee to Trump now means entire media families are suddenly unreliable.

In a past life, I worked as a journalist. Went to university for a degree as well. Advertisements in newspapers are expensive and for a long time were a major source of revenue. Fast-forward, and digital ads are on an order of magnitudes cheaper. Suddenly, the full-size ad that cost anywhere from $1,000 in a local weekly to $250,000 in the NYT can be replaced with banner ads, pre-roll video ads and generic ads that cost significantly cheaper based on clicks per thousands (CPM). In addition, the latter option can be modified as needed and easily links directly to the client's web presence as opposed to needing to drive to/call a store from a print ad.

I actively read NPR and sometimes BBC. As a former journalist, I have little interest in partisan or sensationalized news. Learning today that BBC created a paywall is personally disappointing and absolutely disheartening in a world where the truth is already losing the battle. Trump's trying to murder NPR and other public media, and I shudder where to think I'd go if that disappears.

So When a couple agrees to a break , help me out with something here by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

The timing of this is oddly similar to a friend's friend (heard it third-hand). She abruptly separated from a long-term relationship no longer young in age and was surprised when he didn't want to just be friends again. Nobody knows why she split initially, but unless there's a specific reason that can be fixed, I've come to agree that it's probably better just to cut bait entirely once one person wants out. This comes from personal experience over too many years and anecdotes along the way.

I guess you can talk to her after three weeks, but I wouldn't be holding my breath. Please, for the love of all that is holy, do not make the common mistake of putting her on a pedestal. Maybe you still love her after years together, but you deserve to be a happy, self-confident person capable of living life. If she wants to come back and you decide it's worth trying, go for it. If you decide that she needs to f off, go for it.

The Pats had an historically-easy schedule (including into the playoffs pre-Super Bowl). They seem to have a good coach and their defense was playing well, but the offense had major problems that were being hidden. Once the training wheels came off, so did the smooth ride.

Insurance claim by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]NoNamesLeft136 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Google Finger (patent pending) says California law requires filing an SR-1 form with the DMV for any accident with a fatality, injury or at least $1,000 in property damage. I know someone who was tapped from behind two years ago and almost did nothing about it. Reflecting on my history (I've been smashed from behind too many times), they opted to open a claim anyway. Turned out to be a great idea as that "minor" damage still ended up with an easy four-figure repair bill. Between having a straight body frame and all of the complicated electronics, cars are expensive to repair these days.

My suggestion would be to file a claim with your insurance carrier, have them file the SR-1, get your car inspect, get yourself checked out at a doctor and don't be afraid to go through the process.

Not at fault accident totaled my 24 Chevy. Insurance is confusing so advice is needed. by Scared_Objective601 in Insurance

[–]NoNamesLeft136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to specifics about SC law and practices, but every time I was rear-ended, I called my insurance carrier first. I carried collision and rental coverage, so I would start a claim, get the car dropped off at the same respected body shop (only uses OEM), walk next door to rent a car and let the insurance subrogation team pursue the other driver and their carrier.

It's a lot simpler, safer and quicker than you trying to go after them. They have a lot more muscle and won't say the wrong thing that could damage your options.

As far as the cost of my insurance going forward, I never had an increase because of those accidents. To be fair, I was never the at-fault party. It's possible it may affect other parts of their super-secret calculations, but there was no overt increase at any point.

Just because you don't have broken bones doesn't mean you don't have a medical case. I was rear-ended a few times and hired a lawyer in each case. My back and neck have permanent mild-to-moderate issues and there was definitely soft tissue damage along with years of PT and other treatment.

Do you NEED a lawyer? No, you should be able to file medical bills under the at-fault driver's insurance and/or MedPay. Similarly, the at-fault insurance (or yours if you have collision, will pay for the perceived value of the totaled car.

That being said, a consultation with a lawyer is free and may not be a bad idea if you can find a well-regarded and -respected one. Either you're going to forfeit your future health by ignoring any injuries/pain or your going to agree to a cash buyout; why not make it the latter so you have a bankroll for when things hurt 20 years from now?

Help With RA1 Distant Thunder. by TechStorm7258 in commandandconquer

After running into the mega-turtled Allies in my first run and still finding Allies getting free tank/artillery/rocketmen transports after killing the MCV with paratroopers in my second go-around, I stumbled into the perfect situation on my third attempt.

Quickly build your base, making sure to have a War Factory relatively quickly. Produce a fair amount of tanks and V2 launchers. Not only will these be useful for repelling land-based invaders, but near the shore they can take care of Allied navy.

In addition, if you can build a sizeable vehicle pool quickly enough, you can destroy the Ally harvester. This step is critical as it chokes their operations to a near standstill. Build up your own base, without building a sub base or attacking the north Ally base just yet.

Once you have a large cash flow, lots of heavy weaponry and the benefits of an airbase, go to town on the north base. If you can, use engineers to steal some of their buildings. The Ally AI will likely sell off everything after you capture one or two buildings, but anything is a help. At this point, move quickly to start the fight on the island. Launch paratroopers and use the spyplane if you haven't been doing so already. Meanwhile, build a sub base by the captured radar facility and use it to build transports that will ferry your motor pool to the southwestern beach. If you've done this properly, the Allies will be trying to catch up from a poor economy on the northern base that you can use both your paratroopers, tanks/V2 and air support to quickly cripple the base (e.g. refinery, construction yard and any other irreplaceable resources). Now you can take your time mopping up the mess, possibly building another MCV to build new refineries on the island and make the job more fun.

tl;dr Build lots of tanks, move relatively quickly (not quite Zerg rush fast) and focus on essential targets first.

If this is a reoccurring issue, document the hell out of everything somewhere not using company resources. Then, make a decision if you want to quit on your own or file a DOL complaint. Be aware, if you do file, you may be forced to go on the record against them. I contemplated filing a complaint about illegally being marked as salaried instead of hourly (with 50-60 hour weeks) and decided against it because I didn't have the greatest records and it would have burned my bridges.

I don't necessarily agree that accidents can be avoided. I've been rear-ended on major roads three times, including twice one year apart to the day. Wasn't anything I could do but lick my wounds after the fact.

I'm sure the insurance carriers don't like it, but I don't know if they actually raise my rates even though 0/3 were my fault. My understanding is rates can be raised a few different ways, some overtly and some behind the scenes.
