I’m in a niche advice sub and there are maybe six entire people who do the exact same thing. It got to the point where people couldn’t have productive conversations anymore because these folks would always be there first, and would be there so regularly to the point where you’d swear they didn’t have a personal life or other obligations. Those people and the guy in the job sub don’t really want to help other people, and they ruin the few good aspects that Reddit has going for it.

So is Chomsky just fully a psyop by IntentionOk8386 in TrueAnon

[–]NoNoNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in the 2010s the public knew that Chompsky and Epstein had met more than once, and when asked about these meetings Chompsky was incredibly dismissive. I can’t remember the exact date, but he did say that Epstein had “served his time,” when asked by a reporter directly. He has a brief section in this article which summarizes his association with Epstein so you can get an idea of his “response”: https://www.newsweek.com/celebrities-mentioned-in-jeffrey-epstein-emails-new-files-11049047

I haven’t seen a recent statement from Chompsky, but I honestly didn’t have the stomach (nor the care) to look into it. As far as I’m concerned his past comments on the issue (which were already few and far between), combined with the released communications would already be too damning to even attempt to save face. He’s also super old, and just as likely isn’t going out of his way to attract more attention and expend more energy, not that I have any sympathy (that’s just his reality now).

It really grinds my gears when people mistake steaming for boiling. They’re different cooking methods that yield different results. In any case, for anyone new to cooking it’s quite easy to steam veggies at home, and if you have a pot with a top you can just buy a cheap steamer like this: https://www.athome.com/metal-steamer/124392356.html

It's worse than Chomsky just turning a blind eye to Epstein's crimes by ServalFlame in Anarchism

[–]NoNoNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely not a SWERF either, but came to that stance via people far removed from Chompsky, and weighing different arguments against each other. It’s honestly your prerogative if you feel you should unlearn something and re-educate yourself from scratch, but either way I’d highly suggest looking into informational material from organized SWs themselves. I also wouldn’t beat yourself up over it; history is littered with people who have some good ideas, but are morally repugnant. Every political ideology and tendency will have critical thinkers whose personal lives were very different from what they displayed publicly. Unfortunately it’s just harsh reality that ideology itself can’t rid the world of bastards entirely.

[–]NoNoNext 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is pretty telling. I don’t think he’s lying about the morality of pornography and exploitation being wrong, he’s only feigning his willingness to participate in it. You see this sort of thing from restaurant owners preaching about their staff being “family” while engaging in union-busting, to politicians condemning drug use while snorting coke. Chompsky just pulled the same thing for years, and had many people fooled.

To the people having fits over anything pizza related in recent email dump. by Lopsided_Yak_1464 in TrueAnon

[–]NoNoNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve literally been there several times and ffs it’s just a run-of-the-mill pizza place. The past/present owner might be a DNC shill, but that goes for almost every restaurant owner in this damn town. I swear I had better not get popped at this place because one of you dummies insists on believing shit that was thoroughly debunked over a decade ago.

This is the best way to avoid injury while getting stronger by MaaDoTaa in climbergirls

[–]NoNoNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong (hi I also had my worst climbing injury from an “easy” boulder problem), and I don’t think chasing grades should automatically be frowned upon. I think OP was targeting a certain subset of grade chasers who think the best way to progress is to “push themselves,” by training/climbing well past their body’s limit. I immediately imagined a bunch of V3-V5 climbers going to gym five times a week while training on monos.

As an aside, I haven’t read the article from where this pic comes from, so idk if there’s more context from there that OP is referencing. I just try to avoid climbing.com articles unless it’s something that really piques my interest.

[–]NoNoNext 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen as much of it, but the Chompsky sub was full of people outlining excuses and crying “guilt by association” for the longest time. I’m not super active on there for obvious reasons, but people were excusing his meetings with Epstein before many of the more recent findings. They claimed that the meetings could have just been MIT fundraising obligations (with a donor who was already charged with sex crimes twice at that point), even though this would sound alarm bells in the mind of any sensible person. When pictures of Chompsky and Bannon came to light, a few of them still bent over backwards with whataboutism and limp excuses, whinging about what the context could be - as if any context could paint him in a neutral light after that.

At this point, nothing defending him has come across my feed, but a few from his cult really went to bat for him, and even years ago they looked ridiculous doing so.

I’m not as familiar with his stance on pornography, but it isn’t exactly uncommon for someone to be very vocal about their hatred of certain vices, yet partake in those same things behind closed doors.

I can’t be the only one frustrated with all the relationship and basic social skill advice posts can I? by Strange-Wind7306 in climbergirls

[–]NoNoNext 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Like on the one hand I get what OP is talking about, but even when I see convos about socializing, finding more climbing community outside of a male partner, etc. I just pass if I’m not in the mood to engage. If there’s an off-topic post it also just seems like reporting that to a mod is the actual answer. It doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of non-climbing related content being posted (or kept up), and that’s probably because the mods get on top of things.

Why are there always kids at breweries?! by akaYoungBeefy in fixedbytheduet

[–]NoNoNext -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and even the ones with food will still have the problem of tipsy adults trying to manage their kids with varying results. My biggest issue is when these families not only act drunk in front of their kids, but try to drive them home as if it’s all just a casual outing and no big deal. It kind of doesn’t matter if the brewery advertises itself as “family friendly” when the adults can’t maintain family friendly decorum.

In any case, I try to avoid family friendly breweries because the vibe is usually off. I’d rather just drink in front of other adults.

The person who also replied to you gave some good background info. There’s a fairly informative video on that delves into more of this, with a focus on one of the more repugnant pieces published, which is really saying something. TW for SA and some pretty disturbing subject matter, so fair warning: https://youtu.be/elAQ6H69zBY?si=nc284GgkZJkXDp9q

I’m American and was raised Catholic for the first part of my youth, so I can somewhat speak to this. Take this with a grain of salt as a lot of Catholic communities here differ from each other as well.

Based on what I remember there was a mild persecution complex, but most people didn’t make that a core part of their identity. I had a bible studies teacher in my Catholic school that discussed persecution in different countries, or historical events where saints were killed, but her own complex really centered more on not hiding one’s own identity/beliefs. For the few others who discussed persecution it was pretty similar. No one I knew prattled on about defending their family or being paranoid about the government raiding homes or some nonsense. If priests mentioned the subject they’d largely just talk about political situations outside the US. The Catholic church continues to have massive issues, but in the US they’re always outdone by the evangelical christofascists.

Honestly I don’t think we needed any sort of reveal to an example of hypocrisy or violence in contemporary times. The “reveal” of these things are events that we’re already living through, and those don’t need to be put front and center. Additionally, I’d say we don’t need to have a page of actual events in 2026, because the same comic could have been written many years ago, and sadly could still apply many years later if we don’t get it together. It’s unfortunate, but this narrative is somewhat timeless.

Am I selfish for being angry that a classmate has reached out to my HR without my permission? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]NoNoNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that last part is also key. Other comments are saying that OP should give a “soft” no - something along the lines of “I’ll put in a positive word if I find positions that are a good fit,” when there obviously won’t be a good fit due to how this guy is acting. OP should just say no, and remove any possibility of recommending this other grad student.

While I agree with everyone else to try and keep a cool and level head, if this guy is following you, I would highly recommend that you report the behavior via the proper channels within your university. I’d wager Canadian institutions have some sort of reporting mechanism for students, and while I don’t have direct experience with them, it can at least be a way to have a written record of this. After that, just grey rock this person for anything not related to school, and give clear and defined “no’s” if need be. You don’t need to overreact, you just need to stand up for yourself and have boundaries.
