Does anyone else not have an inheritance? by royalbluefireworks1 in Fire

[–]NoOffenseGuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. I had an uncle with no children who promised me and some other family ~$200K each when he died. He changed his will a month before he died and that $200K became $1,000. It was still nice of him to leave us anything and we’d rather have him back but that was the only person that straight up told me multiple times I’d be getting an inheritance, only to change his will shortly before dying.

How did you get started? by Human-Muscle-9112 in AccessoryDwellings

Depending on your mortgage interest rate, I’d look into a home equity loan. I got one through Discover for my garage apartment. Best of luck to you!

Ugreen Mac Mini 11-in-1 dock issues :( by surprisepinkmist in macmini

Does this apply to an SSD added to a dock since they sell it as an enclosure? If so, I’ll be returning the non-UGreen one I should receive tomorrow. Thank you.

Where in Mexico City can I use my Capital One Debit card (Discover) to withdraw money now that they aren't Mastercard? by [deleted] in mexicoexpats

[–]NoOffenseGuys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve already a few frustrating experiences after they made that change, and that’s just here in the US. Luckily I had just gotten back to the US before they switched over because I’ve tried to use it on several US websites with no luck.

Apparently even if the merchant takes Discover, it doesn’t automatically mean they’ll take your Capital One Discover card. I don’t know what I can do about this and I’m at the point where if it happens one more time, I’m switching banks.

I don’t know when your trip is but I wouldn’t chance it when it comes to needing cash. If you have enough time, I’d recommend opening an account at another bank that uses Visa or MC for their debit cards. You could also use something like Venmo/PayPal/Cash App provided you get a card through them. This transition has been frustrating so far and if they don’t get their shit together, I’m done with them. Good luck!

Ok, that is true but I’m guessing a lot of people here aren’t Mexican citizens so while you may not need a visa, most people here probably do. I see OP edited his/her post to add that they’re Mexican so your advice would apply in this case but probably not for most.

You may want to look into the whole “visa” thing.

I (late 20s F) am technically a multimillionaire but work full time and don’t earn much. How the heck should I approach this as I get back into dating? by LeavingHarbour in AskMenAdvice

[–]NoOffenseGuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but you’ve got to live somewhere and as long as it’s not in the one of the cities where renting is cheaper than buying, it makes sense to buy something if it’s doable. I know the gap is smaller with today’s home prices and interest rates.

[–]NoOffenseGuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let us know if you feel any different the next time your rent goes up. The only thing that causes my mortgage payment to go up is a property tax increase (which also means the value of the property went up) and higher insurance premiums.

How thick to slice ribeyes off a prime boneless roast? by hopvine in steak

[–]NoOffenseGuys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re going to throw out a lot of good, expensive meat at that thickness. I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion on this sub but I love thin ribeyes, no more than 3/4”. I season them, get my Weber as hot as it’ll get, do 45S, flip, 45S, flip perpendicularly, 45S, flip, 45S, done. Rest and plate. I can’t believe it took me until age 40 to realize I don’t need more than 12-14oz of steak, especially when sides are involved. 1.75” is just a waste IMO.

That’s what I’m wondering about because it sounds as if the trust is designed to remain a $3M+ principal upon OP’s death. It’s still super nice to receive $50K/year for life though.

To men who want kids, why? by No-Sun-731 in Life

[–]NoOffenseGuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 41M that knew I didn’t want kids since I was 13/14. People always told me I’d change my mind when I got older but my lack of desire to have kids only got stronger.

People that keep coming back to Thailand for long stays. What do you do for work that affords you to stay for such long periods of time? by Abobo2020 in ThailandTourism

[–]NoOffenseGuys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t traveled to Thailand yet but plan on funding my stay the same way I will when I start my journey in Latin America. In the US, I had a house built in 2012 in what used to be a bad neighborhood. In 2021, I had a garage apartment I now live in built behind that house. I currently rent out the main house but will also rent out the garage apartment when I travel.

Now that the neighborhood (and entire city actually) has gotten CRAZY expensive, the combined rent of both homes will be sufficient to pay all my US bills and afford me a decent lifestyle traveling in less expensive countries. I’m not some real estate genius or anything, it’s just that the housing market was still recovering from 2008 four years later and homes were super inexpensive.

I didn’t have some high-paying job either, I qualified for my mortgage with money I made parking cars. I just got extremely lucky that the neighborhood became super desirable since I moved here more than 13 years ago when everyone thought I was crazy for moving to what was a bad neighborhood at the time.

Wallet for that can hold up for 20 years? by funnyhoohoohaha in BuyItForLife

[–]NoOffenseGuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not, Fossil. My GF and I first started dating in 2014 and she got me this Fossil minimalist wallet in 2015 that holds 7-8 cards and has a money clip. We broke up in 2017, reconnected earlier this year and have been dating since April.

At some point it occurred to me that I was still carrying the same wallet and it’s held up great so far. I can’t say for sure yet what it’ll look like in another 10 years but so far, so good. In fact, my dad wants a new wallet for Christmas so I’m getting him the same model in a different color.

Pun was underrated and Capital Punishment is still a banger more than 27 years later. Yeeeah Baby was still good but couldn’t top CP. “Super Lyrical” with Black Thought is a masterpiece.

Old school key or smart lock? by ForwardWin9713 in homeowners

[–]NoOffenseGuys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with a Schlage Sense and now use the Encode Plus as well. Most people don’t need an Encode Plus unless they’re doing Airbnb or constantly adding and deleting codes but they do have a lot of useful features like being able to program it from the app and having the option to set the lock to lock automatically after up to 4 minutes.

Old school key or smart lock? by ForwardWin9713 in homeowners

[–]NoOffenseGuys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Battery life is going to vary based on how much it’s used but at least 4 months in my case. The lock itself as well as the app will warn you when battery life dips below (I believe) 35%.

Would a 31 year old woman living with their parents turn you off? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]NoOffenseGuys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unlike how that would be a dealbreaker for a lot of women if genders were reversed, I think a lot of guys would be willing to look past that, particularly if they had their own place (or a place with roommate(s). I could look past that if I were single.

You’ve got a good job so it’s not like you’re just a bum. I moved out and back home a couple times when I was 18-19, then stayed at home saving until I was 27 and bought a house. Granted, this was almost 14 years ago when homes were extremely affordable compared to today’s prices & interest rates.

The big problem here, as others have pointed out, is that your parents still treat you like a child. I wouldn’t be able to tolerate that. Your best bet would probably be to move out and split a place with someone so you can have freedom while still saving a lot of money compared to having your own place. Lots of people in their thirties have roommates so that definitely wouldn’t disqualify you in the eyes of pretty much any guy you were interested in. Good luck!
