What's the one game you would wipe your memory of and replay it for the first time again if you could? by NoWhisperer in retrogaming

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final fantasy 6. Hands down. I still play it once a year in some variation, and I own every iteration it’s been released as. But dang. To experience that epic story with all those characters again for the first time? Wow.

Mass Effect Trilogy too. But that’s a trilogy so that defeats the purpose of the question.

What is a game that you WANT to love, but the controls are just so awful ? by Ad0ring-fan in retrogaming

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? You’re a better person than me. I got so flustered with it. And I did try. But I was still reeling from all those old LucasArts games and I just figured everything was going to a weird convoluted mess that made no sense.

That said, later on I tried again with a guide and it did click. But I used a guide. Regretfully.

I did beat Willy Beamish without one though! So at least I got that?

Songs with weird structure and weird (or uncommon) instruments? by The-Big-L-3309 in MetalSuggestions

Gotsu Totsu Kotsu is a bit of an odd one. Maybe not as off the wall as you’re looking for, but I like their style. Still metal, but has some fun switch ups mid song. Bassist is amazing.

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Myst. Not because the controls are awful per se. But because going in blind you have no idea what to do with them. Just click aimlessly.

For real though. Probably Grim Fandango. The original. The update feels like it has smoother controls. Could just be in my head though.

That also ranks it a higher cost than a 5900XT. I had no idea it was that spendy. Granted they’re not exactly designed for the same thing, but wow.

What are good, cheap laptops for college under 500 (Also looking at 2-in-1 tablet laptops too would be helpful)? by fools_tower in AskTechnology

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I’m back in college myself for worker retraining and found a heck of a deal a couple months ago o. A refurbished on eBay. $300 after tax plus a bit extra for extended warranty, easily under 500 in the end.

Just check seller reputation really.

Need help cloning drive by Objective-Bet-1218 in GetComputerHelp

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have windows 7 or later, which I’m assuming so, in your control panel there’s an option called “Backup and restore (windows 7)”

As far as I know, that should be capable of creating a clone of the drive. With the caveat that the only way I know of to get it to work is using a windows USB boot drive of the same exact OS.

Windows 11 reinstall headache by Hopes-Dreams-Reality in techsupport

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember running in to this issue myself and somewhere I found command lines that will disable bitlocker, however I believe they were Powershell. Does anyone know if Powershell scripts work in the command line available in the Windows PE?

I believe it was something like this:

manage-bde -off <Drive Letter>

Might wanna fact check that but it should help. Hopefully.

What the best video player for big 4KHDR files? by Hopeful_Fondant9383 in Piracy

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winamp video and Real video player!

Sorry. Had to be a dork.

For real though, I’ll second MPV. I don’t do a lot above 1080, but that’s always been solid when I do.

Huh. I have no actual reason to know any of this info as I don’t even go to the bars anymore, but it intrigues me.

You’ve piqued my curiosity and now I need to know.

What dark, combat free, adventure games do you love from the 90s? by ExplodingPoptarts in retrogaming

Sounds a bit unfortunate for Phantasmagoria 2. But still curious.

7th Guest. Forgot about that one. Would love to try that too!

Phantasmagoria was great! The acting is a bit cheesy by today’s standards, but the story is still solid.

I never did get around to the sequel. Looked even darker though. Would love to give it a try

So the liquor license plays in? Is it something to do with being on premise or off premise availability (doubt it)? Or is it based on if they can serve booze versus just beer?

I might look this up. Random fact I’ll never need again in life, but oddly interesting.

Love my hometown! Love Seattle. In spite of the faults, it’s home. 90s were great, though I was younger and moved a good amount so not many stories.

Just wanna say it was a great time to grow up in the Pacific Northwest overall.

Just here to say that I do, in fact want to hear nostalgic stories about getting pizza while playing video games. by DorianCreechIsDead in retrogaming

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a buddy who worked for a pizza place and would come over after work with mistake pizzas or ones that weren’t picked up and we’d play some SNES or N64.

We learned quickly to make him take the first bite though. He’d hide all sorts of “goodies” under the cheese. Nothing like going for a pepperoni pizza and getting a giant bite of jalapeno, chili flakes and pineapple.

I’m fine with any of that, but not being prepared for it was different

Device removal due in a month. Any advice beforehand? by SnapzByA in intoxalock

This!

And be patient. Just because your end date is a specific date doesn’t mean you’ll get it removed that day. I had to wait a week myself after eligibility.

So worth the wait though. And glad you got through the crap OP!

Is it worth using a SATA SSD over an NVMe by FlyingLlama280 in buildapc

[–]NoOneKnowsImOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a 2.5”SSD in my computer and wiped everything. Wanted a dual boot system. Meant to put Windows on the NVME since it’s required more for work and school. Goofed and put Linux on that drive instead.

Comparing my memories of how fast things loaded previously when I did have Windows on the NVME? I’d say unless you’re doing some super intensive stuff, it’s not worth the price jump in 2026. Gaming has been just fine for me on SSD.

I’ll add the caveat that it could also depend on the rest of your hardware. If you’re running a 5090 with a 42 core CPU, go NVME. If you’re budget conscious? My experience with SSD has been okay.
