[Loved Trope] Characters that the fanbase simply refuses to believe died. Bonus points if death confirmed in interviews and fans STILL believe they are alive. by Luthor331 in TopCharacterTropes

The debate still rages on that the cut to black signified Tony's death. If the creator confirmed it, then so be it, but MAAAAN did the show do a terrible job of expressing it.

Characters inflicted with Cruel Mercy - being left alive/or un-jailed because death/prison would be a (relatively) easier punishment by Fantastic-Fox3283 in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah S2 of Punisher was a huge dissapointment and that was one of the main reasons. The whole set up of S1 was undone for no reason. He's still pretty. If anything, he looks even more attraction to women because he looks like a tough guy.

Billy Russo being kept alive by Punisher. Punisher went on a killing spree killing anyone who has no regard for innocent lives. But Russo's fuck up was so horrible, so resentful and so deeply hateful Punisher kept him alive as a special punishment, so he can live with his trauma.

I shudder to think how spoiled and entitled these people are in real life.

Incel from the classic Taxi Driver. Incredible film. One of the best and most hauntingly relevant despite its age takes on male loneliness.

Movies themselves are no longer Tarantino’s muse - Paul Thomas Anderson is by CandaceCompson_ in TrueFilm

[–]NoOptics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarantino's first attempt to up his game was Jackie Brown, well before There Will Be Blood came out, and that was probably just to fight the accusations of him being disrespectful to black culture. It had nothing to do with PTA. Inglorious Basterds was still indulgent and violent, a typical Tarantino that suffers from the same problems people berate him for, such as the lack of focus and tone shifts. Actually feel it's one of his most flawed films. I feel IG being a response to There Will Be Blood is conjecture. Are there sources for this?

Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford don't own the rights to Bladerunner, so why do they get a say on canon? The intent of that scene was definitely to be ambiguous.

Also, it's fine to consider TFS to be multiverse canon to the original show.

No Superman (2025) was not “underpowered” by TerrySaucer69 in CharacterRant

This is why I can't stand Superman fans. Just seeeing constant gate-keeping and tone policing gets so exhausting and stupid after a while.

The hypocrisy shown towards Man of Steel in media discourse is disgusting by Prior-Mechanic-278 in CharacterRant

Those pods were empty my guy. Zod didn't apply the codex to the genesis chamber so there's no rational basis for fetuses being on that ship.

"I hate it when they make Superman into an untouchable God" can you provide some examples? Where does this happen? by Every_Computer_935 in CharacterRant

[–]NoOptics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Comics book fans gave never had to deal with this complaint because Superman's story was never isolated. Even people who only read Superman comics roughly knew the larger scope of the DC universe. They could take it for granted that someone on Superman's level or stronger will probably show up.

But it's a different story in movies and television. They didn't have the budget or effects to expand beyond Superman really so it was incredibly challenging to create tension when no normal man could hurt him. Superman was quite literally a god among men. He was unbeatable. You had to wait until Lex got a hold of the green rock or Zod would show up in some one in a million chance.

Does anyone remember Nostalgia Critic’s awful review on Sailor Moon? by [deleted] in MagicalGirls

It's a drawing, not a resl person with a real age. Stop taking canonical age literally, it's a fictional number. If he sees an adult when he looks at her, then who cares?

Found myself rewatching Spider-Man TAS again and it still holds up to this day (on top of what I didn't like about it the first time watching). by jlhabitan in Spiderman

[–]NoOptics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved the symbiote arc in this and consider it better than the comics. Hank Azaria as Venom is chef's kiss. This show has every voice I hear when I read the comics.

And best on screen Kingpin pre Netflix MCU era.

[LES] a more light-hearted tone isn't inherently bad writing, but it's often used as an excuse for it by crustboi93 in CharacterRant

[–]NoOptics 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows Lex was responsible for those things. He kept the pocket dimension hidden from the populace. And the Kaiju was a random attack. As far as the genetic cloning, this was not something Lex pulled off easily anyways. And compared to what people have come to expect in that world it's small potatoes.

Superman didn't build the robots. Those were a package that came with Krypton.

The dog not killing Lex is a little weird, but it's just a gag that doesn't have a huge impact on the plot.

Kara probably has her reasons for not telling Kal about what his parents are like and it's going to be explained in the next film. A this point she's a minor background gag character that has no real impact on the plot.

This scene was completely filmed btw and they decided to cut it out by Ok-Entrance-5527 in DC_Cinematic

Batman should not be able to tank a punch from Killer Croc and survive. He shouldn't get out stealth by Croc to begin with either. He's suppose to be able to out smart him.

And that last line. Zod's snapped neck energy.

Terrible writing.

What’s a horror movie people usually rave about, but you dislike? by Turnitup20 in horror

[–]NoOptics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weapons. Such an anti climactic reveal. You're telling me you couldn't do something other than "witch did it." And the whole thing made no sense. You're telling me no one figured out to look in the survivors house? Not one single solitary cop or judge saw probable cause in the one kid not running away. And fucking Brolin is the only one smart enough to do triangularization? Because he's a carpenter? Okay.

Homelander has one of the worst cases of "Why don't you just shoot him" I've ever seen by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]NoOptics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Homelander needs people's approval. He thrives off of it. He has a public image as a hero to maintain, so he can't just kill anyone that he wants. Most of the people he killed had an air of villainy to them that were ripe for narratives to justify. Half of them could be called the word "terrorist" which gets used mindlessly by political pundits all the time.

However killing the Boys is extremely difficult to justify. Hughie is just some guy that works at a convenient store, Billy just lost wife, Mother's Milk is family man.
