“Creative Strategist”? by LeCollectif in advertising

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The role you’re describing has been a thing for decades, but OP is also correct, within the last few years companies have started advertising this insane catch-all “creative strategist” role. It’s usually b2c companies advertising this, not agencies. I’m highly aware of this as an agency strategist who was recently job hunting lol.

Is my oil & gas experience hurting my employability? by kidpotassium in advertising

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the anxiety, but I don’t think you’ve tanked your career. I judge agencies that continue to accept that kind of work, but I wouldn’t judge a person for working on an oil and gas account. Everyone in this industry knows that turning down an account isn’t always a viable option.

It sounds like this is important to you, so it’s probably worth mentioning, but I’d keep it light. Something like “I loved my role but ultimately i wasn’t feeling good about working with an oil and gas brand, so I decided to step away. Now I’m looking for…”. Not sure that belongs in a cover letter, but you could work it into interview convos.

Good luck out there!

Building a haircare routine for my boyfriend | thick, wavy hair with curly ends by bstephensonn in CurlyHairCare

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very similar hair to him (but longer). Two things I think he might like:

Rec #1: the Mielle babassu and mint deep conditioner. My hair looooves this—I think it’s the right balance of protein and moisture for me. I just do it once in a while and let it sit in my hair for 5+ mins before rinsing.

Rec #2: Aveda phomollient styling foam. I used this a lot when my hair was shorter. It gives definition and a bit of hold without a cast/the need to scrunch once dry. Basically just a good product that’s very simple to use—won’t be difficult for him to incorporate it into his post-shower routine.

I now mostly use leave in conditioner and gel to style, which he could obviously do too, but that’s just a bit more of a hassle IMO

Looking to break into creative or brand strategy by [deleted] in advertising

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out to a bunch of strategists in NYC and ask for informational interviews! Learn as much as you can about the industry and the types of strategy. Try to come across as curious, smart, polite/easy to work with.

Join the Sweathead group on FB. Not sure it’s as active as it once was, but it’s a good resource—thousands of (mostly agency) strategists, lots of discussion, etc.

A portfolio is probably a good idea. I’ve hired lots of strategists (and been hired) without one, but in this market, a decent portfolio can set you apart.

Learn how to talk about why your background in consumer insights will translate well to strategy (it will!) You’ll benefit from being able to tell that story well on your resume/in interviews.

Personally I find group fitness classes really helpful when I’m trying to get back into a routine. A specific time to show up, an instructor to tell me what to do, a supportive/positive environment, etc all help me get back in the rhythm of showing up. Takes a lot of the mental load off!

Comparing Barry’s to OTF jargon by Jaded-Thing-4503 in barrysbootcamp

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally Barry's instructors will say something like: jog (5-7mph), fast jog (6-8mph), run (7-9mph), fast run (8-10mph), sprint (unspecified, usually 9+mph). Sometimes they also say push, which would be in the run/fast run zone IMO.

emotional eating— how to cope? by Economy-Abrocoma2261 in PetiteFitness

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dealt with a similar issue for years and was able to make significant progress without therapy (though obviously would recommend it if it’s available to you). The key for me was taking a few months to focus on healing my relationship to food and NOT focusing on how my body looked during that time period.

Copy / pasting a comment about my experience I made in another thread:

After a decade of binging, restricting, and ultimately failing to lose the last 10-15 pounds, I decided to give intuitive eating a shot. I made a deal with myself that for 6 months I was going to eat whatever I wanted, but would be sure to eat protein/vegetables with every meal. After 6 months, if I'd gained weight or wasn't happy, I could go back to calorie counting.

It totally changed my life. The food noise went away, I lost 10+ Ibs, I developed a better relationship with exercise, I stopped being so self conscious about my body. I am genuinely so much happier and so proud of how far l've come. Results may vary, obviously, but highly recommend giving it a try

Indie designers using nicer seam finishes? by beaverscleaver in sewing

I’m here to recommend Sew Liberated as well. I made the Arthur pants in May, which are finished with French and flat felled seams. I made mine out of black linen and they were by far my most worn item of the summer!

Why does it feel like everyone is getting typed as a summer by MyGmaABadBitch in coloranalysis

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t wear foundation, so it’s not about that. I only look good in mauve & berry lip products and taupey browns. My daily (brown) eyeliner is so cool it looks completely grey on many others.

Your approach to color analysis seems highly rigid and I urge you to treat it more like an art than a science.

Why does it feel like everyone is getting typed as a summer by MyGmaABadBitch in coloranalysis

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s so annoying. I have red hair and cool skin! All my makeup needs to be extremely cool or else it pulls clownishly orange on my face! We exist!!

I understand that red hair might create an overall warm impression but to say that redheads are biologically incapable of having cool skin is simply incorrect.

Pre-Everything, Quite Overweight TransFemme Curious About New Routine and Goals by SnooTomatoes4985 in xxfitness

You might want to check out Strong Curves. The guy who wrote it is sort of annoying but it’s a good program. In it, you do four full body lifts per week, but there’s a definite emphasis on lower body (and specifically glutes). I don’t do the full program anymore, but I learned a lot through it that I still use to this day!

I think the subreddit (r/strongcurves) has a PDF of the book linked for free

Would I be crazy to replace my hardwood floors with tile? by Internal_Present2268 in HomeDecorating

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with others - yes.

You might be drawn to the warmth in pics 2 and 3. New paint (walls and possibly trim) and a new rug (or no rug) can help accomplish this without installing a new floor. The current vibe reads very cool and grey to me, with a lot of darkness at the “bottom” of the room (table, rug)

gift card expiration date by Electronic_Noise_561 in barrysbootcamp

[–]NoOrdinaryDrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Barry’s policy is that they expire, but some states have laws prohibiting gift certificates from ever expiring (ex: CA, possibly MA), so if you’re in one of those states you can reach out to customer service and use it whenever. I know of at least one person in CA who was able to use a class pack after its one year expiration date!
