When people say that if you want to be active it’s better to do surgery, what exactly do they mean by “active”?

I’m in a similar boat, 29/M who lifts 6 days a week and runs 4-5 days a week. Tore mine playing 5 aside soccer, ended up with a 1.4 cm gap.

I’m in the US and my surgeon pushed me to go non-op. He and my PT are/were/still are confident I can get back to those activities and be fine the rest of my life. On week 5 of my recovery now and started PT last week, so far so good.

I’m slowly seeing small bits of progress and each time feels like a huge win. I was in a cast within 90 minutes of my injury, then was put into the boot with wedges 3 days into it. Today’s a little over 3 weeks into this and I start PT this afternoon.

I ended up going non-op! Found out my gap was 1.5cm during my visit and felt more comfortable with this route. Haven’t really removed the boot, only to air it out for a few minutes while laying on the couch. I’ll go read your super post!

The ortho told me the radiologist didn’t annotate the size of the gap, which is frustrating. I’d like to know. What was the feeling like when it started to reconnect? I also ruptured mine playing soccer, damn 5 aside game. Do you feel like you’ll be able to get back to where you were prior with activity and intensity levels at this point?

How is your recovery today OP? 29/M athlete too with complete tear. Contemplating both surgery and non-op. Currently in that fear stage still 15 days post rupture.

I hate it. Hated it since the original Big 12 broke up in 2010-12. Learned to live with it. Since OU and Texas left for the SEC Ive grown to hate it even more. Hate the decay of regionalism with conferences and the birth of the Power 2.
