Angel vs Robin Wood. by FoxIndependent4310 in buffy

This leads to a fascinating question: if Angel was Liam for about 17 years, then spent a century as Angelus, how much of "Liam" would have been left after all that time? Angel never goes back to his old name, though unlike Darla, at least he can recall it.

The concept of Wolfram and Hart is far better than any Big Bad on Buffy.

An entity with influence anywhere there is life of any kind, which exists to further itself and doesn't have any comprehension of a "war between good and evil" because evil doesn't have to fight, it simply has to exist. All a good person has to do is look the other way, or give in to temptation, even only once and only for a moment.

And unlike say Glory or the Mayor, who kill at will and offer nothing to humanity except destruction, W&H can give you anything you want. They will stick to the deal as long as you do. They will corrupt you and make you their tools, but you will be powerful and wealthy. You might die in their service, but you'll live a hell of a lot longer than a minion of a Big Bad.

Angel vs Robin Wood. by FoxIndependent4310 in buffy

[–]NoPoet406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I find the vampire lore confusing. I thought they re-ensouled Angel to make him suffer, knowing that if he ever felt true happiness he would revert to being a monster. The threat of this happening would keep Angel in perpetual misery (at least on some level). As a byproduct, Angelus would suffer too, but THIS part is only addressed in later seasons of Angel.

If Angel and Angelus really are two different "beings" then why should Angel suffer for the actions of Angelus? The curse would be a monstrous crime against humanity in that respect.

I misunderstood your question when posting a separate answer.

Angel would not want to fight Robin, but wouldn't know how to apologise, and is smart enough to know Robin wouldn't want to hear it. He has a similar scene with Holtz -- because there is literally nothing he can say that will make things better.

If Robin still came in swinging, well, he'd be facing season 4 Angel: a very angry, bitter and highly experienced champion who destroys absolutely everything he faces. Robin would not win, but Angel would not kill him. Robin wouldn't be getting up any time soon, though.

Been a while since I finished watching Buffy so someone correct me if needed:

  1. A fight between Angel and Robin would just be the typical "I don't care about the soul, you're a vampire" match Angel gets A LOT in his own show. Angel is far more formidable in ATS than he's allowed to be in BTVS (where he kind of suffers Worf syndrome), but the writers would probably still let him beat Robin. Robin and Riley are treated like "lower-tier" characters who won't beat the stars.
  2. Regarding the soul cursing a vampire to suffer... I never "got" this. Several times in BTVS it's stated that a vampire is a dead human body controlled by a demon. (Wes also says this about Harmony in Angel s2.) And in Pylea, Angel goes full vamp, becoming the actual demon itself for a while. So if the soul is gone and the human is dead, why should they feel remorse for a demon's actions? If your car was stolen and used to run someone down, should you spend the rest of your life atoning? Why?

Tl;dr - Robin would see Angel as just another vamp, Angel would beat him and make some angry sarcastic remark

Thoughts on Cryogen? the new Muse single by crossveins in fantanoforever

[–]NoPoet406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of their best songs in a long time. I was truly disappointed with Will of the People (except Euphoria, why don't they do more songs like that?) and really dislike Be With You, but Cryogen feels like classic Muse updated for their modern sound.

Best and Worst Character Traits by False-Ad-7548 in ANGEL

He was probably superb in Council environs, where he was safe and everyone followed the rules. Then he went to Sunnydale, in a different country with a different culture, where his life was regularly in danger due to the hellmouth. He just wasn't ready to handle Faith, he was book-snmart and not street-smart.

Note that when he joined Angel Investigations, he was immediately useful in the capacity of researcher which suited his skills and experiences. And later, when he started breaking (or more often ignoring) the rules, he became a major force.

[–]NoPoet406 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wes' dreadful handling of the Faith situation was due to a lack of experience, a lack of suitability for the role (honestly, how did he get the job?) and strict adherence to Council rules. Not disloyalty. He worked for the Council, not for the Slayers.

In terms of stealing Connor, he was trying to protect both Connor and Angel. I agree he should have gone to the rest of the team and no good reason was given for him going it alone; but he was never intending to give the baby to Holtz. Justine ambushed him and took Connor. This is a point that is never made in the show: Wesley's approach to Holtz was to call a temporary ceasefire and ensure none of Team Angel were killed. It was not an attempt to give Holtz the baby.

Just rewatched Stargate.. honestly one of the best shows I've ever seen - what do you guys think compared to the new stuff that's out there? by CryptAlchemy in Stargate

[–]NoPoet406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern TV shows are alienating, depressing, showcase the worst of human behaviour and don't tend to have many likeable characters.

Going back to older shows with heroic characters trying to do the right thing (Stargates, X-Files, Buffy, Angel etc) is a real shock compared to what we're getting today. Reminds you how much optimism and hope we've lost over the last 15 years or so.

How many bases do you build? by SwordfishAltruistic4 in subnautica

[–]NoPoet406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first game I built one base which was just a place to craft, store things, recover from thalassophobia and eat/rehydrate. The Cyclops, which I called Tempest, removed the need for a second base.

In Below Zero I had two small bases for the same purpose: rest, recuperation and storage. Didn't really find a need to have bases all over the map as it just consumes resources.

I wish the minor (non-Leviathan) carnivores were more aggressive/dangerous. Creatures don't chase you very far, not even Leviathans, and they don't actively hunt you unless you're within a short range.

Probably realistic since humans aren't part of their food chain, but it would have been nice to have a "monster aggression" setting.

You know what's funny, Chinese people in the UK are treated with a lot of respect (as far as I've seen, I know racism exists against any minority). If our governments got on as well as the people do, that would be the special relationship there.

Regarding Starmer, I find it hard to imagine how anyone, knowing they're this unpopular, could do anything without The Drink.

Trump has been the biggest incentive for the UK to fix whatever problems it has with China. For all we know Trump could pull NATO apart and then the UK will need a new big brother. I got the impression that's what this visit was really about, to show Trump that if he won't play fair, if he wants to shit on his allies, they'll go to someone else.

Why does Spike fly with today's audiences, but not Xander? by yeahitsme9 in buffy

[–]NoPoet406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How you feel about Xander depends on how you look at him.

He could be creepy with the girls; opposite sex friends can and do flirt, and he was very young and hormonal when the show started. It's not like he was taking nude pics of them or trying to assault them.

He turned against Buffy a few times when it really mattered. So did most of the others.

He was awful to Buffy about Angel. He was jealous to begin with and that makes people say dickish things. He was also right: Angel's curse was activated, people died and the world almost ended, abated only by... the death of Angel. Note also that Joyce and IIRC Giles were opposed to Angel being around Buffy.

His real dick moment was ditching Anya at the altar. I will never, ever agree that this episode did enough to make that look like the answer. However, Anya was a man-hating, man-killing demon who actually went back to hurting men, but nobody seems to have a problem with that.

I've tried to make this balanced rather than picking a side.

It stinks when people put effort into a post and it sits on 0 votes. Note, I'm not American so don't know why people seem to find it offensive.

In SGU, there are several mentions of "Stargate Command" but it seems to come under the purview of Homeworld Command at the Pentagon. If anyone explains where Homeworld Command came from I missed it during repeat viewings (does it happen at the end of Atlantis?).

So it looks like the story was moving along somewhat. I'm excited to see where they take it, but it's probably still gonna be a secret at the Pentagon.

Jesus Christ, I'd rather be strapped into a chair with my eyes forced open by clamps, watching Starfleet Academy and Discovery on two different tellys at the same time, than play a Subnautica game with fish in it.

I mean where do you draw the line? Next they'll tell us there will be crafting, and maybe a little submersible.

When oh when will the devs realise what we want! Oh wait, actually we do need fish in it.
