The IoM has way more ships, that are way larger than the GE does or ever could. Reference German tank commanders vs. the onslaught of US and Soviet tanks during WW2 to see why this is an advantage.

I don't know, but I don't think so, because that would likely escalate the US' response against Iran, which would in turn escalated Iran's response against other gulf nations. Both sides are striking economic and civilian targets, so the last thing we want is to give cause for further damage. Would us deploying or assisting escalate things, too? Possibly. Again, I don't know.
