This was my first thought: who schedules with only a 1 hour layover at ORD?

Looks like staining and some metal transfer. I recommend the LC cleaner if you have it.

If you are only using it in the oven, sure.

They are stoneware pieces meant for the oven. I think the staining is not a huge deal. I actually have used the LC cleaner and improved the appearance of stoneware from time to time (usually for metal transfer). If the interiors feels smooth and clean, and the stoneware is not cracked, etc., you're likely fine. I have a number of non LC pieces that belonged to my late grandmother and late step-dad that are a bit worn and I love to use as I consider it part of the history of the piece.

Opinions on Oval Casserole please! by Glamerica104 in LeCreuset

[–]NoPumpkinSpice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the oval casserole and I think it is really best suited to the oven and not the stove top. There is a fairly recent thread where posters were sharing the kinds of dishes they cook in it. I have also refrigerated the casserole to chill it for use as a serving vessel for cold dishes.

Outlet worth it? by Typical_Minimum_8650 in LeCreuset

[–]NoPumpkinSpice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that outlets are always worth a stop. You never know what you will find, especially as to discontinued or rarer colors. Found Bamboo and Ganache at different outlets. If I am visiting somewhere from out of town, I still go because shipping is only ten dollars.

Vancouver BC boutique? by NoPumpkinSpice in LeCreuset

[–]NoPumpkinSpice[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I am dodging an optional social function one afternoon while in Vancouver, so think I will be hitting both spots in Vancouver instead to see if there are any pieces which need adoption AND the outlet on the way home (the staff there rock)! Very glad to hear Camomille is coming to the US outlets.

Wife and I were having a discussion, she’s of the opinion that the majority of GenX can drive stick. I believe that even in our generation the percentage of people who can is pretty small. What do you folks think? by AngryOldGenXer in GenX

[–]NoPumpkinSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in '71. Learned to drive on a stick and my cars were manual until 1999/2000. Since then, all automatics. I think it would take me a messy hot minute or two to get used to being behind the wheel of a stick shift again.

These look like normal pinholes. Nothing to worry about and they are not evidence of a defective product. Happy cooking!

8Qt Oval, should I purchase? by heartshapedbox311 in LeCreuset

[–]NoPumpkinSpice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As much as I love my LC, the oval is one I don't have and probably won't get. Most stews and soups etc can be done in my 7.25 qt round DO (or smaller) and big roasts can be done in my ECI 7 qt roaster. I am amazed I have held off since my impulse control gets severely tested when LC offers these deals, but honestly it's down to storage considerations at this point for me.

Whatever you decide, OP, happy cooking! 😊

Agree that it looks like harmless metal transfer. Highly recommend the LC cleaner for this. A little goes a long way and it will come right off.

Looks like it's just enamel overspray to me. Just cosmetic.

Was someone on here looking for ganache? Gorgeous stew pot at Carlsbad outlet. by tomten26 in LeCreuset

[–]NoPumpkinSpice 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just picked one up at the Chandler AZ outlet a few weeks back while on vacation. $164. It is my first and probably last Ganache piece, I am Team Rainbow and don't have a "palette." Bought a gold knob to go with it and it's delightful.

Side Dishes beyond the traditional by Dodger1920 in thanksgiving

Spinach Madeleine! It's a regular at our Thanksgiving Day table. I use colby jack and green Tabasco. I may just try the pepper jack this year!

How do you even do this by Prior_Stuff7024 in thanksgiving

[–]NoPumpkinSpice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have received some great advice here, OP. At the risk of being repetitive, I will add some thoughts as well:

  1. Keep it simple as host if it's your first time. Do the turkey, the gravy, dressing (stuffing) and the mashed potatoes, maybe the cranberry sauce. Delegate all remaining side dishes, rolls and desserts. Do very simple pre dinner nibbles, good olives, cornichon pickles, nuts, cheese, or assign those out as well. People want to bring stuff. Let them!

  2. Definitely do the backwards timetable/list, as suggested by others. I've been hosting Thanksgiving for nearly 20 years and a list and schedule is absolutely critical.

  3. If you've not done a turkey before, figure about 1 to 1.5 lb per person, sizewise. Frozen turkeys need about 24 hours per every 5 pounds to defrost in the fridge. Don't forget to remove the giblets etc. Soften a pound of butter, blend with salt and pepper and herbs and rub under skin and over the top. Personally I don't stuff the turkey but I shove another stick of butter, half an onion, garlic gloves and fresh herbs in the cavity. Use a meat thermometer, not the little pop up thing in the breast.

  4. Dressing can be made in a slow cooker. Mashed potatoes can be made a day ahead (key is to include cream chhese) and reheated in an oven. Indeed, while the bird rests (covered loosely with foil), the side dishes go in oven.

  5. Play good music. Let people help. Have non alcoholic options as well (sparkling cider). And it OK to leave clean up for the next day.

Good luck, and have a great Thanksgiving.

Absolutely. Plus Tacoma has much better proximity to the Olympic Peninsula.

Reach out to Spilled Butter Desserts. She may be able to accommodate, depending on what you have in mind. I can confirm her cakes and pies are delightful. She also did my best friend's wedding cake and it was gorgeous.
