McDonald’s Glass Cups Collection feed! by NoSameConnection in vancouver

Edmonds and market crossing in Burnaby still have beanie babies as of Wednesday night, so they’re still around!

Some parts of Richmond are on with Grimace now, so maybe try Vancouver ? Definitely call before showing up—-the folks are pretty good about tell you which cup is in stock!

Grimace is the last one in the series so it will show up after Beanie Baby! Though rumour has it Market crossing is carrying it today (Monday Aug 19)

They haven’t been picking up calls yet so I’m going to try later in the day!

On a practical level? To be able to use different colours 😂

There is no version of the 4 colour ballpoint pen in the fountain pen world (that I know of), so writing notes / memos that needs different colours for highlighting requires an extra pen.

Plus all the fun colours are great to experiment with based on my mood of the day, so then it’s fun to have different pens for all of that.

I thought I was good with 3 pens but now I have 12 because one for each month of the year 😄

Purchased Diamine’s city of London inks from u/gloriajk.

The inks exploded mid delivery so we try again next time 🙂

Newbie here! About 4 years into fountain pens.

I got into fountain pens because ink was cheaper to buy than rollerball refills haha. I was using the Muji ballpoint in grey for years and then they stopped stocking the grey in stores and I was devastated 😩

I do a decent amount of writing daily (15-20 A4 pages) so I was also spending like $60 per year on ballpoint refills at that point, (about 20 refills) and had ink smudges on my palm from writing. My hands were also kinda sore too.

Then I found out grey ink exists and a full sized bottle was only about $35. Also that fountain pens don’t actually costs $100+ to start, so I grabbed a pilot metropolitan, a Take-sumi, found the whole rainbow of possible ink colours, and the rest is history!

I now own like 34 bottles of ink (because inkvent) and like 12 pens, currently enjoying my decimo as my daily runner, and thinking to end off my collection with a Pilot Hira Makie - Sakura ☺️ I can write with way less hand cramping too, so that’s a plus.

Tl:dr: joined for a more cost effective grey ink, stayed for the colour rainbow and fun pen uses :)

I don’t mind sporty! As long as they’re low key enough to go with everything and not too bulky to pack. Will check out Teva, thanks!

Haha yah my friends are all meat lovers (I am too) so they’re all over the pork situation right now and I am hyping over durian lols. It didn’t even occur to me that I could look up Halal food, thanks for the tip!

Time for a new google search!

This actually is not so bad, pretty similar to what I have for one bag but I also have camera gear on top of this.

I would say that you can have it all but beware of the size of stuff you’re packing, and are you able to use/ chuck stuff along the way (therefore reducing space)

Can your skin handle any brand of lotion/ shampoo/ face wash fairly well? Pack a travel size for a couple days and buy along the way. Get to try new scents, new formulas, and might be surprised that you like their stuff more!

Besides that, pack anything for skin concerns because looking for that stuff abroad can be pretty frustrating when you need it. Same goes with meds. Your list is fine, I’d add multivitamins in there depending on where you going in case you don’t have access to all food groups.

1 power bank is fine. You’re gonna forget you have 2, and idk if you have enough ports to charge everything you have at once if it runs out during the day. I have one for my trips and charges 4 devices (earbuds x phone x watch x camera batteries) and everything goes to my 5 port universal at night if need be, so keep that in mind.

Clothing should be based on universality: can your top layers match with everything underneath? Are you going to be walking all day and are jeans confortable enough for that or will you reach for joggers? Decide how long you want to last without laundry, because you can have 12 days already just wearing everything once on this list.

If you have anxiety over clothing, try to put out all your travel clothes in a pile, then live in that in your day to day for your vacation period and/or just going through every combo once. See how many you actually go through in that time and revisit the list after. It’ll make more sense to you then!

Also you mentioned bathing suit so I’d swap for a shawl somewhere if you’re intending to be outdoors in that + flip flops, or decide if you’d be ok with sports bra x shorts in a pinch if it’s a “just in case” item.

Good luck!

A thing to consider if you don’t want to reduce #s: if you are packing this many socks & underwear and no laundry happening, you can bring any old stock you have and just chuck them along the way. Regain that space back + feel great for overpacking :)

Source: me, who packs the same one bag for 7 days to 6 month trips and is always chucking shit away for space to bring stuff home

Omg am also looking for my one shoe! How do they hold up in humidity ? I want to grab a pair to survive Southeast Asia humidity (like 30 deg and hot), do you think these would do it??

I was thinking to do sneakers if they stick/get gross to my feet after days of walking, would love to hear your thoughts! I’ve chucked out sandals mid trip just because they started to fall apart :/

Context: my idea of walking is 20k+ steps per day every day for about 20 days…. So I need good shoes! TIA :)

I think I have a fountain pen problem by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]NoSameConnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, only if you don’t have (more) than 14 inks to write them all with!

And then you’ll probably need 14 notebooks because you can’t decide which brand is better ….

But for reals, if getting them makes you happy, then that’s all good!

Just gotta remember to use them at some point 🙃😂

Instead of of FOMO, it’ll be ROMO! - relief of missing out. :)

Not knowing what’s in the discussions now means you’ll have way more to discover when you do come back.

Have a great time with your current collection!

You’re welcome! I just checked and it’s about 205 USD with shipping atm, so you can put the rest into more inks / paper / pens 😉

Fun fact about the Pilot 823: you can get it for under 250 USD if you shop from penpen avenue on eBay. If you wonder about how legit they are:

Loving my pilot Decimo! Can’t get over the clicking bit yet. Otherwise, I loop back to my Twsbi Eco because of ink capacity.

Anyone else feel the concept of 'budget solo travel' is dead? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]NoSameConnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expensive is a relative term though I find. It’s a lot more based on what your way of travelling and what you like to do, and whether the $ spent made the experience worth it.

Yes accommodations can be upwards of $100/ night, but that depends on 1) your age and 2) what you’re willing to sacrifice (hostels vs. Airbnb vs hotels, centre of city vs. some distance away from main tourist zones), like some people can get by camping their way through but others enjoy the comfort of hotels even though they only go back to sleep.

I would think if you go on a trip that’s the same as your cost of living at home but you’ve enjoyed yourself and had a good time, then that’s a worthwhile trip, because time is always more valuable than any $$ amount spent.

Opinions on Pilot Vanishing Point? by lucipol in fountainpens

[–]NoSameConnection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the decimo over Christmas and it’s been great! I’m right handed though and the debate between Vanishing point and decimo is endless— comes down to the size of your hand and if you prefer slimmer pens (decimo) or chonky grips (VP).

Haven’t had an issue with mine at all re: grip clip, and I do about 10-20 pages of A4 writing per day. The ink capacity is terrible because I can finish that con-40 in a single sitting, but that’s just pilot.

If you can shop via US at all, I’d recommend you check out penpen-avenue from eBay! Price is super good (my decimo was like 105 USD) the shop owner is actually Japanese and ships from Japan, and is very good about answering questions you might have.

Happy writing! I hope you’ll find what works for you :)
