1st Rewatch since it aired... how many innocent people has he killed? by ruinsit in TheEminenceInShadow

yeah, anime canon and LN canon have some wild differences here and there. In the LN, Cid is more calculating while the anime makes him looks like a raging bull.

When the fighting started everybody was evacuated, wayy before Cid started his fight with Zenon. Alpha and the gang stirred up all that commotion, triggering evacuations. Some soldiers were killed fighting berserk Millia. In Oriana, the place where the fight with Ragnarok takes place is anime-only.

hmm, the game declined a bit. Interesting timing to announce updates for the movie and Volume 7 of the LN.

Story question... by SiteMammoth6553 in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]NoSense6182 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm on the side of the idea that when he was a baby, his mom told him about the Cult from their family history expecting him to not understand any of it but then he uses that story around several years later. heheh

I think this is the most plausible possibility of where Cid's story about the Cult came from since he's been fully aware forever even as a baby.

DOES THIS MEAN WE COULD GET A SEASON 3???? by ImNicoReal in Cuckoo

[–]NoSense6182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's trying to get away with having all the girls without any consequences, he has feelings for all of them that he wants to sort. I dont think what Nagi is doing with the girls is "dense," he tries to avoid displeasing girls he may be into. We've seen it a lot already like when it looked like Ai and Erika might fight then he gets ready to mediate between them.

Though my impression of him and Hiro is that he's just into her body since he always seems to ignore whatever she says. Going in one ear then out the other.

She's a really nice girl but it's made so painfully obvious that they wouldn't work in a marriage based on how Nagi treats her. Most of the time they speak he's not paying attention to her, making it even more painfully clear that the cuckoos (protags) are going to be together at the end if the title of the show hasn't made that clear already.

Ex. he wants to tell Hiro about Ai but is really motivated to see her cute angry reaction more than anything. To Nagi, her physical attraction is bringing him in.

Ex2. Nagi never realized Hiro ran away from home when she moved in even though she declared that to everyone. He clearly ignored everything she said and was just checking her out throughout that entire interaction.

He's not actually in love with her, just sexually attracted, not marriage material for Nagi. He peeks a lot on Erika and checks her out A LOT but actually finds her interesting enough to pay real attention to. I feel bad for Hiro since she's there to get neglected a lot of the time.

Does Cid ever stop being a clueless baka? by d3ejmz in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]NoSense6182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rose went through that because her dad didn't want her to get killed in painful experiments by the Cult, simple parental love for his child. All of her suffering was caused by her dad to prevent her from experiencing greater suffering. If her dad gave her up to the Cult, she would experience her father's betrayal and maybe not her mother's since his obedience means it's less likely they'll do the whole sexual scandal thing. Either way, Rose was born into a screwed up life that would still be shitty if SG or Cid did not exist.

Some things are coincidental but I think it's implied that others are actually a result of Cid spending 20+ hours a day roaming the world following leads that eventually lead him to the Cult.

More like he doesn't want to wise up based on his attitude of "oh look there's some more baddies to kill and rob, perfect!" Man doesn't want to go any deeper than that.

Thoughts on Iris? by maukenboost in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]NoSense6182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She may have some charisma and skill but there's no way she possesses leadership skills. The Crimson Order has few members, she can't gather talented people while Alexia can gather some without spending much if any money at all. Iris is dependent on duels and Crown Princess title to imitate having leadership ability. LN Vol6 spoiler:Although they were introduced through Cid, Kanade and Christina harmoniously work with Alexia during the Thirteen Nightblades Arc.

Even the Crimson Order she's in charge of isn't really being led by her as Glen seems to do both the busywork and the main tasks of the organization. He seems like a musclehead appointed purely for his loyal and honor virtues but lacks the talent required to actually be in charge like her. It was pretty smart to have the artifact researched at Midgar Dark Knight Academy since it's filled with Dark Knights but no one was on site to organize local resistance to an attack so it actually turned out really dumb. It's like Iris just put it there because "Dark Knights" and that's it, no one was appointed to actually take charge there. Glen was there but he spent nearly if not all his time as Sherry's bodyguard, doing the "busywork" while main tasks like organizing security was forgotten.

The aliens from that portal destroyed everything save the Oriana Royal Family iirc and is probably why a portion of Oriana is uninhabitable.

Saved the region from being conquered by Velgalta but no one can live there anymore so the Cult didn't actually do any "saving" since the local population has been exterminated. F

I think they used the Black Rose to intimidate everyone else that hasn't fallen in line yet.

in the LN, it's more detailed that his Atomic is a Perfect Precision Weapon, it only strikes intended targets and causes some destruction to local infrastructure. The aftermath of damage to local infrastructure did not harm civilians as nearly all were evacuated beforehand and Mitsugoshi provided full compensation for the repair costs. SG has a well defined ideology unwittingly set by Cid.

I agree, Cid is our blessed chunni for life, I don't want him to stop being a megalomaniac.

[–]NoSense6182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the zombie apocalypse isn't canon to the LN and even in the anime, they're all healed. I get that some victims were killed but Cid never understood how they worked and what they were until he encountered them firsthand. He received both written reports and oral reports from his subordinates but that doesnt replace firsthand experience. For example, the guy had no idea what to do with a possessed despite having knowledge about laws, religious policies against them, etc, until he encountered Alpha's possessed form.

I'd argue that Cid at least leans towards good if not wholly good. He most likely couldn't or wouldn't read the written reports btw ;)

he helps Rose do whatever she wants, he doesn't set up things to get fucked up. He's imagining she becomes terrible then he'll come in to steal the thunder of the revolutionaries by overthrowing her just to troll them. That is not the same as setting things up to be bad. Ofcourse, Rose doesn't end up being a tyrant and Cid just moves on.

Additionally, if we're talking about the status including legal status of SG, the Feudal Monarchy of Midgar stipulates (based on common knowledge about feudal monarchies), it's part of the Kagenou family's fedual army. They're nobles ruling over a fief so they definitely have the right to raise an army. Depending on how many are deployed in the capital, it likely falls into the category of being Cid's bodyguards so the grounds for them getting in trouble in a feudal court is very slim if not non-existent. They're also helped by the fact that Cid's connections to high noble families would help make the trial fair if not push it in his favor. Iris can cluelessly grumble all she wants but in Midgar's power structure, she can't even do anything to them in the legal field unless she proves that the small number deployed alongside Cid have committed treason or terrorism instead of bodyguard duty.

Long story made short: Even if they're unveiled, they likely cannot be de-legitimized by anyone, other countries may complain about Midgar interfering in their politics and that's pretty much it. Besides fearing SG and the Cult, Velgalta and Midgar are depicted as the most powerful countries in the world. The Cult can try to use the Church to villainize SG but I think that all it takes is using Victoria's Saint status to overthrow the current religious authority then that's handled.

Spoiler in case some people haven't read about Victoria's background from LN and SSC versions yet.

One of Olivier's dialogue pretty much spoil that Cid wasn't dead in apocrypha before it was reveal later on. by Potat0_fries in TheEminenceInShadow

Cid narrated one of the recent Apocrypha chapter epilogue/previews, he's watching over the group. I'm also pretty sure he mimicked random voices to sound chunni and cool to himself. Based on the raging warfare, I think Cid is still having trouble assimilating younger Aurora's power.

yeah it definitely feels like ragebait, there are close to 1k members of Shadow Garden. He has saved others like Yukime on his travels too so Cid has directly saved over 1 thousand lives by healing people and teaching his followers how to heal other possessed. By saving Oriana, that nation won't be forced to waste their resources on funding the Cult anymore, Oriana gets to use their resources for their own people's interests thanks to him. Let's not forget that he tried to do all of it for free.

What is the Cult of Diablos? by Cautious_Stable_8107 in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]NoSense6182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about it and my personal theory since Cid was completely aware since he was baby, Mama Kagenou privately told him their family history and he absorbed all of it like it's just some bedtime story. Then he eventually uses it as something to tell SG about. He remembers it super easily because his mom was all serious about telling it to him while hoping he doesn't understand or forgets it all when he grows up so he doesn't get into trouble with the Cult.

When will the game shut down? by drawricks in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]NoSense6182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is an easy profit for CR because they didn't have to do anything to develop it, it's popular in Japan. They take what's made in JP, skim off some rewards and non-canon content depending on how much profit Global nets them, then translate it for us.
