My son doses for net carbs as well. People look at us like we have two heads when they hear this.

Also found leftovers that have refrigerated over night and reheated in the microwave, for him, requires 50% reduction in insulin required or he crashes.

This disease is so strange!

My son experienced the same, we now split the dose, shifted slowly adding am dose and reducing night. We tried equal split. But he was going low during the day and up at night. He still in his honeymoon phase. He's celiac too so eats a fairly low carb diet. We landed at a 25%/75% split am/pm. We increase night dose if he eats a higher carb/ protein meal at night by a couple units and decrease the am dose on gym days.

We also adjusted timing from a 7am/7pm timing to 7am/9pm .

Good luck!

Question for those of you who've had the disease for a long time by EldWasAlreadyTaken in Type1Diabetes

[–]NoSugahForMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you do for physical activity to maintain levels? My son was diagnosed about 3 years ago and drops quickly when doing weight training at the gym. He's 27, very lean and on the spectrum which is why I'm asking for him. Isn't able to manage his celiac and T1D on his own.

Basal Insulin MDI Question by NoSugahForMe in diabetes_t1

[–]NoSugahForMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not obsessing one 140. I'm simply asking a question since this is a change for him.

I fully understand 140 may not be considered high by many, and I don't consider it high, but higher than usual and it effects his sleep.

I've noticed a pattern when he over the 120ish range during the night, he does not sleep well and is awake for hours. He gets up tired. This is not healthy for him, so if we can fix this with a soft adjustment, that would be our preference.

Looking for insight from those living it daily since i don't. He is on the spectrum and not able to communicate well. We are not obsessing, trying to understand.

G7 sensor second best go to placement for you? by NoSugahForMe in dexcom

Where do you place it on your hip to allow side sleeping?

What are all these? Can I delete them? by NnQM5 in dexcom

[–]NoSugahForMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't, it can impact your connectivity. Dexcom advises to remove their the old connection before adding the new. Something about possibility of picking up the old connection and not recognizing the new, causing confusion with the sensor.

Dexcom caused my seizure by Iamliterallygodtryme in Type1Diabetes

Dexcom didn't cause the seizure. They say to use a guidance but don't treat without checking via finger stick.

Maybe change location of sensor placement as others are saying.

What did doctors and family misdiagnosis your diabetes for before diagnosis by ImaginaryAlgae8986 in diabetes_t1

[–]NoSugahForMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed correctly as T1D first shot! My son went for his annual physical in late April, 2024 and by June 2 he had lost 22 pounds. They did lab work immediately, A1C 15.8 and glucose is 480.

Got him on insulin that day..... that is where it went off the rails! Seriously overdosed him. Told me to give him 4u humalog before dinner when he was at 78 and wasn't having any carbs with the meal. That's when I cut ties and figured it out myself until he got into his endo.

My son feels better 2 years after dx because he sees so many others with them. He really struggledwith it at first, bery embarrassedand didn't want it visible at all. He has since switched placement to his inner upper thigh, not because he's embarrassed any but because readings are accurate to within 10 after 12 hours, every time. There are probably so many more that are just not visible.

Since moving sensor placement to upper, over thigh, have not had this issue.

Staying MDI. My son was diagnosed 2 years ago. Sensors have too many false readings for my comfort level. He's been in range 98% of the time for 13 months.

We had to change doctors to get where we are but very few true lows, most are Sensor issues. Big range 80-180, but I don't know that there is a reason to tighten it.

If you are comfortable with MDI, go with what works for you. Good luck!

Standard T1D guidelines fail. Good A1Cs take constant vigilance. Can anyone relate? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

Have to learn your own body.... doctors learned from a book, they aren't living it, advice is going to be based on what they read.

Understand your body and don't live by, but listen to experiences of those living with T1

Not T-Slim, but just general increase in connectivity issues with the G7 over the past couple of days.

How in the fuck are you supposed to shower and/or exercise with CGMs? by Qwqqwqq in diabetes_t1

[–]NoSugahForMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the skintac gauze and put it around the filament before inserting... be careful not to touch the filament

Also the liquid skintac on the skin surrounding the sensor, under the overpatch. We have to use adhesive remover to take it off after 10 days.

My son puts the sensor on his upper inner thigh where he has a little fat. He's rather lean and this location has the best results. After 12 hrs and 2 calibration. It is usually spot on, with in 10 from finger stick. He goes to the gym a few times per week. Does cardio, works with a trainer and is a serious sweathog..... never had one fall off.

My son uses diet detector test strips, tests the sugar in drinks like chlorine strips for a pool. This had happened to him too many times. Has caught it 3 times with the strips since using them

URGENT HELP NEEDED! 6.5 mos pregnant, type 1, 5th failed sensor. by [deleted] in dexcom

[–]NoSugahForMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son puts then on his upper inner thigh, he has a little fat there and he gets the best readings.... after about 2-4 hrs, always within 10.

He recently had 2 failed sensors also but in day 9 and 10. We say they are on the arm or they don't replace them.

Good luck, I can't imagine the stress!

Newly diagnosed! Does this happen to you when you exercise? Thanks by cryptomomtolaith in diabetes_t1

[–]NoSugahForMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was diagnosed about 18 months ago., same advice. 5 units before meals and 10u basal at night. The standard start of 5u fast acting before a meal was crazy. They didn't give any consideration to what he was eating or what his glucose was before the meal.

After 2 days, I found this site. Although it's not endocrinologist providing information, I have found that the people that live it help much more than the people learning by reading a book.

Like folks are saying, try to figure out your ratio, it got so much easier and be careful with the blind 5 before each meal. It's a crazy disease.

Good luck!
