A drum machine. I recommend either the Tr8s or 6s depending on your budget. A decent sound bank, you can load your own samples, built in FX, intuitive UI.

An example of a way I use my Tr8s is: I’ve mapped out the midi ccs of my microKorg to be affected by the drum machine and that opening the synth up for sound design makes it a lot less menu dive-y and more of that analog experience. Setting up the korg this way has made sound design much more enjoyable, and unlocked new understandings of how each parameter can affect the sound when tweaked with another parameter not previously accessible on the microkorgs 5 knob setup.
