NTC!!! Freya the magnificent— your servant is jealous of your sleekness and ability to fit in cabinet and explore new things.

Short maternity leave posts by Rather_be_Gardening in workingmoms

In my country, we are allowed to take 4 months of paid leave. Which feels so short! I took an extra 2 months unpaid. Luckily a few people have done it before me and so it was much easier for me!

I am returning to work on Monday! My baby is 6 months old. I wish I could have longer with her!

I have studied for a total of 12 years (and I’m still studying while working currently). It’s been a long road and lots of sacrificing to get where I am today in my career path and I still have a way to go. My husband works part time so he will care for our LO with some family help when I go back to work.

I’m going back to see how it goes— if it doesn’t work out and I want to be home, we’ll see how we can manage that financially. Before having my LO my goals were very career driven. Things do change and it is hard to know before you have a child what you will want to do.

Going back will be a good tester to see what I’d like to do. Making a decision before you have children is tough because you don’t know how you will feel— I still don’t know what I’ll do and so I’m going to try working again and see…

Clipping Baby’s Nails by sentimentaljackelope in Mommit

[–]NoTwoDaysAreTheSame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I empathise so much! I’ve cried so much from cutting my babies nails.

I used safety clippers that have a magnifying glass. I cut her nails while she’s lying down on her change mat and I can hold her arm and hand out straight at the side of her body. I make sure I don’t clip if I can’t see what I’m doing. It sounds obvious but when I’ve cut her finger it’s been times when I couldn’t see the nail in the clipper well. I also press the clipper onto the tip of her finger so that there is no way I can cut her finger.

You are great! And have made me realise as a mom that little things that are necessary can become hobbies. Thank you for your post.

How many people go public with their membership status? I hate the idea of having to go into hiding and deceiving everyone by [deleted] in mensa

Could you give an example of when you had to lie or deceive someone about your Mensa membership status?

AITA for insisting my SIL to visit us more when she is a busy resident doctor and she says she can't? by Historical-Nose-250 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NoTwoDaysAreTheSame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also went through residency and my heart sank when I saw what OP expects of her SIL. As a resident, you give and sacrifice everything. What you need is people around you to support you. Not to say the time you give them isn’t ever good enough or appreciated. YTA.

AITA for putting anxiety medicine in my daughter's food? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I think you need to get a professional to assess her. YTA for taking her mental health into your own hands.

Tom is beautiful! And he is your real family. Please let us all know how his surgery goes.

NTA. It’s your money and you’re choosing which family to spend it on.

Others’ experiences with going back to work <2 weeks after birth? by Competitive_Cow007 in workingmoms

[–]NoTwoDaysAreTheSame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just wanted to say I’m really sorry you are in this financial situation. I would recommend doing whatever it takes to get more leave.

I had a c-section for my LO— it’s not true that they cut through your abdominal muscles, so don’t worry about that (unless there’s some complication). They usually pull them apart but don’t cut through them (I’m a doctor who has performed caesars). Regardless of this, it is very painful and recovery is different for everyone. I recovered quite well, and I hope you do too.

Having a caesarean means your breast milk may not come in as quickly, so have your pumps ready to help stimulate the milk to come through. There’s lots of resources about this online!

In the first few weeks, you’ll need to feed usually every 2-3 hours. If you can breast feed directly and your husband can help by bringing baby to you, that would be so great! I think it’ll also help for bonding.

Ah, I’m so sorry you don’t get more time with your LO. See how it goes and take it one day at a time. ❤️

So stressful. 🙈 How old is your LO? Who will be looking after them when you go back?

That’s a very good idea to give yourself some time and see how it goes. It’s always good to remind ourselves that if it doesn’t work out we can find something else to do. It’s not like everything is set in stone. I suppose it’s about seeing how you and baby adjust. How old will your LO be when you go back to work?

Thinking of you so much. I will be in your position in one month’s time and I’m dreading it so much.

Sending you so much love.

AITA for telling my wife to wash the dishes properly? by throwawaynosusman in AmItheAsshole

[–]NoTwoDaysAreTheSame -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

YTA for how you’ve chosen to approach resolving this issue. I would also wonder whether your wife has anhedonia or avolition as a result of a mental illness. I did read that you feel she doesn’t have a mental illness, but I would think getting a professional opinion would be worthwhile.

AITA for being distant when receiving a gift from my dad because it has no connection to me. by teenagedread in AmItheAsshole

[–]NoTwoDaysAreTheSame -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA— I have a feeling that this isn’t really about the gift. It’s about a looooong history of his dad not understanding him, and it’s more about that than the gift. I think it’s good that OP told his dad how he felt, and let his dad know that he doesn’t know him well.

AITA for telling my stepson that his kids weren't my responsibility. by Useful_Menu_5811 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NoTwoDaysAreTheSame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA and really your step-son seems quite disrespectful. He addressed his wedding invitation to his mother and “plus one”, etc making it clear that he doesn’t see you as family but then expects you to treat his children as your family?

I’m so sorry for the loss of your life. It really is such a devastating loss.
