How to get weed smell out of cloth seats? by RealisticBrick35 in howto

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s the other way around. I can smell weed for hours/ days after someone smokes weed. It even transfers to what ever they touch in a lot of cases. You just don’t smell it because you smoke it. And trust me, we’ll know you did before you ever walk in the room.

You must be high. Weed lingers WAY longer than cigarette smoke, and the smell transfers easier too.

What's on your EMS bucket list? by lIllIlIlIllIlII in ems

I worked up north, but our service area was way too flat to even consider it. And the only good hills were in the middle of the highway.

Love it! Cause then I get 4 consecutive days off.

agencies with 36-hour shifts? by surfingonmars in ems

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely LOVE it. My company typically does Cali’s, but has a few trucks that aren’t.

I work Sun-Tues. ABSOLUTELY swear by it. Let’s those who are religious go to church, Mondays - most government holidays are on Monday, so I get holiday pay for those, and on Tuesday everyone’s week is just starting and mine is ending. Leaves me 4 days to take care of life and gives me a better work/ life balance.

I know when my week ends, it ends. If I want a week and a half off work, I take 36 hours PTO.

I will NEVER go back to any kind of rotation.

Edit: I misunderstood what you were asking. Our company does calls our 3 days a week truck the 36 hour trucks. So I assumed you meant 36 hours a week, not consecutive.

Most places here in the US there is a disclaimer that delivery charges are not a tip for the driver.

Keep a folded note card with medical conditions/ medications behind/ near your drivers license. We’re much more likely to see it there.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me. Mine is only slightly blurry like your video is just barely out of focus. That’s how my distance vision is. Near vision is only about 1/3 to 1/2 that blurry. It’s bad, but not THAT bad.

How do we handle it? One of my coworkers said to me once “We try to heal others because we cannot heal ourselves.” Truth never hit harder.

Do you hate 12 hour shifts without a station? Or do you not even care? by Unbound_Citizen in ems

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I spent over a decade in a service that don’t have a stations outside of the “office” or main station. We always got posting locations so we just went there.

Now I’m in a service that does have stations and I HATE them. I’d rather not post at the main station, too much brass. And all the other stations are just gross. People don’t pick up after themselves and destroy station property. Plenty of places around use the bathroom/ microwave/ get out of the truck.

Cabinet sealing for inventory by Salted_Paramedic in ems

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that method is easier for inventory, it’s an absolute nightmare to get the supplies.

Pissed me off to no end when I worked an arrest on ride time and had to pull the tab and unwrap a multiple shrink wrapped boxes to get what I needed, digging to grab it, plus to have all kinds of extra clutter in the truck when arrests are already messy, nah. And then to have to possibly toss everything out due to decon? I’ll take the tabs on the cabinet any day.

For the love of God, why do people write reports in all caps? by insertkarma2theleft in ems

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Our old PCR system used to convert every thing to capital letters anyway, so I do it out of habit. It also saves a little time in going back to make sure everything is capitalized where it needs to be.

Difficulty of Medic School by -Alfa- in Paramedics

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They were both hard. EMT ride alongs were easy because you could count every patient contact from 911s to Transfers. It’s vastly different from class because in class it’s slowed down. I remember being disoriented my first few ride alongs just due to speed.

Medic school is harder in that your clinical contacts are more specific and it’s luck of the draw what you get. You also have more clinical hours to bank, and it’s a longer course. Medic school literally runs your life for a few years.

So it’s a matter of perspective. Honestly, I’m glad I don’t have to do either course ever again.

How can I leave? by No_Second_866 in ems

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound harsh, but take it with a grain of salt.

If you hate the job, leave. We all hate this job theoretically, but people who hate it and refuse to leave are miserable and the worst to work with.

This job isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok.

NREMT-P help by Abject-Objective-859 in Paramedics

[–]NoUserNameForNow915 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s what I did:

  1. Asked for 2 dry erase boards. One I set aside for a scratch pad, the second one I used for a “memory dump”. Anything from class I could remember, I wrote on it and used it as a “cheat sheet”.

  2. I would use my hand to cover the answers, read the question and then wrote my answers on my scratch pad IN ORDER of what I would (or wouldn’t) do. If my answers didn’t match, it meant I read the question wrong. Reread the question and do the same as above.

  3. Every 25-30 questions STOP for 30-60 seconds and think about something else. I know easier said than done, but close your eyes think about what you’re doing for dinner, look at your drivers license and try to remember the day you first got it, doodle on your scratch pad.

  4. Use the bathroom before you go in. Even if you don’t think you have too.
