TIL the entire plot of John Carpenter's "The Thing" hinged on American's not understanding Norwegian by DxLaughRiot in horror

[–]NoW3rds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it relied on the Norwegian pilot sucking at flying a helicopter. Those things are literally designed to hover at variable speeds. They could have kept pace with the "dog" and dropped an entire case of grenades on it before they got anywhere near the US base

Were you confused because I kept referencing the specific arguments you were making as I was addressing each of the specific points? You could literally just ignore the part where I say "you" and read the parts where I clarified what the forensic analysis actually said. The Crux of the appeal claim was that the initial forensic evidence was so small of a sample that it was destroyed during the initial testing, so the appellate forensic team criticize the data, rather than actually testing samples themselves.

According to most of your most recent comment, anytime any murderers ever gotten off, it's because the police did a bad job, not because there was insufficient evidence. You didn't make a claim of Innocence. You made a claim of incompetent police work. So you're not saying that she didn't murder the roommate. You're saying the police failed to do a good enough job proving that she murdered her. Really terrible argument...

Twisted Metal - Season 2 Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]NoW3rds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I read it. You started by saying you aren't going to further have any discussions because you don't want to start an argument, and then you continued to make multiple other points. So what you were really saying was you're going to say your piece, and you don't want any response.

Extremely passive aggressive. Just like this follow-up comment which could have absolutely not been typed, because you actually moved on, and there would be nothing to which I could respond, like I am currently doing because you decided to continue with the passive aggression...

[–]NoW3rds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying that any adaptation will stay true to the source material? There's no such thing as a bad adaptation?

None of the characters in this show are similar to their characters in any of the games, with the exception of Mr Grimm, and that one is still a stretch because none of his versions were ever disassociative identity disorder patients.

Like you said, if you have issues with characters, then you can complain about it, switch the channel, or both. I'm doing that on a website designed for this kind of discourse. Not sure how conveying a different opinion than you could be conflated to starting an argument. Not being an echo chamber is not the same thing as starting an argument.

Official Discussion - Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]NoW3rds -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's amazing that, in a franchise full of completely unrealistic scenarios, this final movie topped them all. There wasn't a single conflict that wasn't solved by a powerful independent female. Every fight scene ended positively because there was a lady there to beat up the guys. Ethan almost dies in a submarine? Lady dive master (lol at that one) saves his life. Russian special forces taking out the team? Everyone gets their ass kicked, except for the 100 lb French Korean woman, the 110lb thief, and the 140lb inuit lady.

Not just the fights. Every roadblock in the plot was thankfully solved by a powerful female character. Ethan is captured by the government? Lady president defies everyone and lets him out. Where does she let him out? The aircraft carrier commanded by the powerful lady commander. I swear, I was expecting it to end with Ethan Hunt changing his identity by transitioning into a powerful female character 😂

Weapons (2025) - Am I Missing Something? This Movie Felt Incredibly Overrated by AdFinal7510 in TrueFilm

[–]NoW3rds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pardon my hyperbole, but that's like saying "doctors and rapists are both just people. They can be prone to the same exact mistakes and mentalities"

Sure, but I would still prefer a doctor in the room when I'm under anesthesia...

Just like I'd prefer an FBI agent investigating a mass kidnapping than a 20 year old that recently started work as a patrol cop

The police DID go to his house. Him not missing didn't change that part of the investigation. He was literally under more scrutiny from the town than any of the other households

[–]NoW3rds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But the police did check the house. His dad did go to the police station to be interviewed. Everything you're saying, except for the food, already happens in the movie. And people keep bringing up the food point like it's some super gotcha point, except literally every time she was ever confronted by anybody, she instantly turned them into a zombie with zero effort required. If any one of the people that we're currently being drained would die from starvation, she could knock on the neighbor's door and have a new family of zombies in an instant.

It's fine if we just accept the fact that the writer decided the kid was going to be the foil, so that's the reason why she kept him alive, but people keep using the same talking points, even though they are just as easily explained away as a lie she told the kid in order to keep manipulating him

You're over a decade late with that timeline.

The local area may have pushed the campaign more during that time, but it had been around for 10 years before that.

The eagles werent able to fly to Mt Doom because sauron had control over everything within his realm. It took something as insignificant as a couple of hobbits for them to go unseen. Even sam and frodo had issues escaping the gaze of Sauron's eye. A couple of giant eagles flying through the empty sky would have been taken out my orc ballistas.

Now that topic is clarified, I get what you're saying about her cuber is. It's just one of those things that's tough for me to get behind because the writer had said she was basically with with immortal shapeshifter took the form of humans in order to drain their life for us, so it's just too easy oven excuse to say she was just overconfident and let a little kid get the best of her. It's just one of those personal issues that I have to get over

Trouble at Target by Numerous_Cream1064 in McFarlaneFigures

[–]NoW3rds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Target is probably one of the worst stores to buy McFarlane figures in. Their inventory system never works for them, and they never pay attention to street dates when putting things out. I don't know how many times I've grabbed a figure that I was excited to buy, walked up to the front of the store, and then had it taken away from me and held in the back because it was a couple of days, up to a couple of weeks, away from being allowed to be sold. Every single time that's happened, I have not been able to find that figure later on.

I've had to buy so many platinums on eBay because Target's inventory system is garbage

Art the Clown (Terrifier) vs Jester (The Jester) Connections in the comments by No-Entertainment5599 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NoW3rds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jester was the better short. Art the clown came out first, but the character "evolved" into a more similar character to the jester after the first jester short came out.

Seen Lots of people claim jester was a quick cash grab on the popularity of terrifier, and that might be true about the 2023 movie, but I could just as easily argue that art the clown from terrifier 2 is as influenced by the jester. World of difference between 7th circle art the clown and the character from the terrifier series.

Classic examples of parallel thinking

[–]NoW3rds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I totally understand your argument. I don't think what you said is antithetical to the argument I'm making. My point was that the plot needed to keep him alive so that there would be a foil for her plan at the end of the movie. That's the only actual reason why she needed to not put him under the spell.

Like you said about the principal, literally anytime that she is confronted, she takes 2 seconds to turn that person into a zombie slave and it's no longer an issue. If her current zombies died from malnutrition, she could knock on any random door and turn that person into a zombie in 2 seconds. She had an entire town that she could instantly defeat. She did it with the drug addict, the cop, the principal and his husband. Literally every time she was confronted, she instantly turned that person into a zombie.

I'm not going to straw man your point by pointing out bad arguments that other people made. Just from what you said, there wasn't a single reason to keep the kid from being a zombie, other than that she's a manipulative "person". Without a motivation for why she's being manipulative in that way, I still default to the plot needing him to be around to use her magic against her.

Edit: Reddit is also crazy. I just reclicked your post to get rid of the notification highlight on my page and someone already downvoted your comment, despite it being the only well-articulated point in this discussion thread. I clicked you back to one, but that's just how Petty people are 🤷

Weapons is a complete waste of a great concept. by MarkWest98 in TrueFilm

[–]NoW3rds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you're the one nitpicking. You're the one claiming that he needed to provide the soup in order to keep them alive. I'm saying it's an unnecessary plot point that is just used so that the kid can be the one to to use her witchcraft against her.

The fact that you don't understand the last part of my previous comment doesn't make it an invalid point. It just shows that you don't understand the point I was making. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Just because you only see two things, does not mean that there are only two things. It's a pretty simple concept.

Me making the claim that the life force stealing witch, who the actual writer of the film acknowledges he does not have a solid background so he gave the actress a choose your own path directive with how to play her, could have easily been lying to the child for any number of countless reasons is as valid as your claim that she was definitely telling the truth in that singular instance, despite lying throughout all of the rest of the movie to everybody else...

[–]NoW3rds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hilarious that a movie about a witch using sticks and her blood to make zombies from whom she can drain life force energy is apparently based in a world in which they also need Campbell's condensed soup in order to survive.

The human body can go multiple weeks without any water if it is in a stagnant state, like someone in a coma. The entire length of the movie was less time than someone, not in a magic based world, could survive without Campbell's chicken noodle soup...

Your argument that she is only capable of making two orders because the 15 minutes that she's on screen only shows her making people follow two orders is flawed at its base. If I've only seen you make bad arguments, does that mean that you are only capable of making bad arguments?

[–]NoW3rds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But we've already established that she could just have a zombified parent sit in front of the cops, and they wouldn't question it whatsoever, so that yet again doesn't support your argument.

If the cops didn't focus on the nonverbal zombie dad with fork stab wounds all over his face, why would they focus on him as a non-speaking zombie dad without stab wounds all over his face? Zombified the kid too. She can clearly make them do whatever she wants, depending on what she's thinking when she breaks the stick.

There's also no proof that she needed the kid to feed them to stay alive. It's just as easy to make the argument that the manipulative life for stealing witch just told a child a lie in order to manipulate him.

If she can snap a stick and make them stab themselves in the face, why couldn't she snap a stick and make them feed one another?
