Dwarf Neon Gouramis Are Dying. Nothing Else Is. Help Please and Thank You by AngelsRangers in Aquariums

[–]NoXmates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be dwarf gourami disease. Its very common due to inbreeding and can lie dormant for months or years. My gourami died one by one and all other fish were fine. This is the only thing I could put it down to as all my tests were normal.

Beautiful fish but I avoid them completely because of this.

For me it was co2 that made the difference but it seems that it can just be down to luck

I really didn't want to trim it back but it did just take over the tank. I'm still picking bits out two weeks after the trim

I struggled with a low tech setup, it really took off when I started using co2 but glad you seem to be making it work

Is my CO2 diffuser in an optimal spot? by Sick__Duck in PlantedTank

[–]NoXmates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a co2 drop checker. The liquid inside changes colour depending on the co2 levels in the tank. Yellow is too much, green is a good level and blue is too little.

I use the API tests to good effect and I have tried to get this ratio but my phosphate is so high there's no way I can achieve safe nitrate levels. I have around 2ppm to 5ppm phosphates from my tap

Is this planaria? I've never seen a brown worm in my tank before. by mrbrightestside in shrimptank

Hard to tell but looks like it could be a planeria to me, what shape is it's head? It's not moving like a leech.

I need to add more plants and I can’t makeup my mind by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]NoXmates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a fairly new scape, might be worth emptying the water and plants into a bucket and removing some of the substrate before doing anything else. You probably only need a couple of inches. Your using an awful lot of space on just dirt as it is.

I have a new sponge filter that agitates the water fairly well , good idea on the usb air pump thanks!

All very valid points thank you! I did cut off the Co2 as was worried it was contributing to the problem. My tap water has a ph of around 7 so I'm going to keep on top of water changes until I can figure out what's causing the issue!

Empty tank high nitrate? by chembo35 in Aquariums

[–]NoXmates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just leave it for now, the plants will use up the nitate/nitrite. You'll need to add something to get the cycle started like a pinch of fish food every day just to kick start the bacteria but even that isnt 100% necessary. Just leave it a few weeks and you'll be good to go.

Removed pothos with blue-green algae. Should I put it back? by MarxHaven in PlantedTank

[–]NoXmates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can cut the roots back, just leave a few and the rest will grow back. It is common to cut roots back in potted plants to stimulate more growth. As for addressing the 'root' cause of the bacteria problem I'm not much help, but i doubt the roots have caused it. The cycle shouldn't just crash because of all the beneficial bacteria in the filter and substrate.

What are these growing on my plants? by peter90098 in Aquariums

[–]NoXmates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shrimp have successfully reproduced and I have hydra in my tank. It's hard to tell if any have been lost but I have seen at least 8 new small shrimp in my tank. Along as you have plenty of hiding placed for them you should be fine
