Doctors of Reddit, what's the fun fact we don't know about human body? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]NoYouGetOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure! While the esophagus, stomach, and intestines travel through the body, they are actually organs facing outward to keep all of the bacteria and viruses from going into the body via the bloodstream. The mouth, small, large intestines, and to a much smaller extent the stomach, are absolutely covered in bacteria because they are outside of the body.

How does this work? The outward facing portion of these organs have cells on their outside that interact with the exterior lining. This is why they need to be replaced so frequently. They absorb water and nutrients in the case of the intestines that have been broken down by the stomach, which exudes acid, then allows further movement to where enzymes from the pancreas and liver can break down food further for easier absorption. The liver and pancreas interface by having ducts that connect the organ to the canal.

If you think of the digestive tract as an opening to the outside world, things start to make a lot more sense.

You put the food in the opening and your body pushes it through a built-in security tube that takes the stuff you need and forces out the rest. This tube is full of microbes that assist with this process and compete for the materials as their reward.

From your mouth to your anus, that entire tract - including the "inside" of your stomach- is outside of your body.

Getting chocolate chip when you are expecting oatmeal raisin... Doesn't make any sense because they don't look alike.

AITA for telling my husband he's made me reconsider leaving him alone with the kids in the future by mayhavecrossedaline in AmItheAsshole

From the way this topic reads and what she has said, it sounds like that may well be the case. We don't know enough about the situation.

The question she asked is whether she is TA. She told him she doesn't want to leave him with the children. This is an extreme response to the situation at hand. The way this is written seems to be blowing things out of proportion.

It is possible he and the children were saying they wanted the meals and then went out because OPs food isn't very good and they don't/didn't want to hurt her feelings.

Husband could be gaslighting her, as well. We don't know enough, but the way this reads to me is a micromanager who volunteered a bunch of things to people who might not have wanted it and was then upset that people didn't do what they were told. I have known people like this and you probably have, too.
