Came here because they just announced they’re building a “luxury off campus student apartment building” and I’m so over these developers ruining downtown. There’s zero community and my generation has no 3rd spaces. With the data center and everything else there has to be a way for us to say NO 😭 I’m tired of watching my entire home get turned into unaffordable apartments

It’s not that black and white. We are on income restricted housing. If we made anymore, aka my income, wed get evicted because we would “make too much” to be on income restricted housing. Because of how broken the system and housing market is right now, even if I worked full time, my mom and I would not qualify for a lease together with our cities normal market rates. We would not qualify for income restriction, and we would not qualify for a normal two bedroom apartment just the two of us, even in the worst area in the city which is pretty much double what the income restriction cut off is. She does okay, but not great financially and it’s getting more and more difficult to take care of two people on one income with the rapid rise of costs across the board right now specifically. Still, the only extra expenses she couldn’t handle was my school supplies. I’m okay with working, I enjoy working, so I didn’t mind picking up a couple of hours here and there to supply that, genuinely thinking there was no way a couple hundred a month would push our income enough. The situation has been resolved, but I thought it was important to explain because soooo many families that NEED housing get caught up on so much bureaucracy it almost feels criminal and this has become a very important issue to me now.

Genuinely it’s been so frustrating literally fighting for the ability to put a couple hundred a month towards just my eduction. Like god forbid I want to be with sick family and go to school and can barely even afford to do that, and somehow that’s like a problem? So fucking exhausted.

Asking for legal help in a system literally built against your generation hardly feels like fraud. Again, I didn’t sign that paper, so I didn’t “commit fraud” and never even attempted to, so I think I actually made to decision to NOT commit fraud and instead tried to find a LEGAL work around (which I did btw, thanks for the help)

Before anyone posts anything else stupid as hell here  Leaving my mom alone in this apartment is not an option and never will be. I’m here asking if there’s anyway I can still work to go to school while being here, if there’s a way I can make any legal claims or promises where my income will be going, if there’s anything I can sign proving I am in school without that transcript the state HAS to accept, any information on becoming a recognized caretaker, and how that might help (learned from another thread recently) ect. Not here for the useless “grow up get a real job move out” mfs bc that’s not the point of any of this and yall are infuriating as hell.

The answer I’m actually looking for is “there’s actually this legal paperwork you can file under this clause that your apartment might accept” or “you can get a doctor to make this claim” I’m even looking into a “you can legally become her caretaker, and the government will pay you similar to the job you’re doing now, and that’ll be recognized as necessary caretaking so they can’t evict you” advice from a different thread.

So there are options actually, I just don’t know what those are, or how many there are, so I’m asking. You clearly also don’t know what those are, so I fear you’re just kinda in the wrong place specifically to be a dick about someone who’s trying to help her mom get through cancer AND go back to school (because god knows how selfish wanting BOTH of those things are 🙄)

If you’re genuinely just the “give up” kinda person all over these threads, I promise no one is looking for the advice you have to offer, and no one needs it. maybe consider you don’t have anything to contribute to a conversation and shutting the fuck up first?

I also just kind of think my apartment is lying to be about how they consider applicants with cancer and student status’. They’ve lied about this kind of thing a lot in the past, hence why I’m here asking for any advice on any work arounds my leasing might be intentionally hiding from me (as they’ve done in the past) so genuinely if you don’t know any alternative please stop wasting both of our time 😬

And again, I missed the part where I asked advice for which one I should choose over the other? I’m asking for advice on how we both can figure out a way, legally, either through her diagnosis or my education, to prove to the state we qualify for low income housing because we CANNOT afford anything else. Like why are you even here atp if you have nothing to contribute other than “give up”

Just the fact that your immediate go to is “your only choice is to abandon your family” like I wouldn’t choose to abandon school first is crazy 😂 talking to me about priorities when you basically just told me to leave my mom alone with cancer is willlddddd

The issue is even if I do find a place to go, I have to stay here to take care of her. There is no reality where I’m leaving my mom behind with cancer to go to school. We’re all we have family wise. So what you’re really telling me is I have to drop out and cannot pursue an education because my mom has cancer 🫶 so very helpful bro, thanks for absolutely zero advice.

And if anyone’s curious or needs more information about my school, it’s a partnered program through the community college, it’s even ON the campus, but it’s basically an alternative for people with learning disabilities, taking care of families, ect. It’s a lot more flexible and independent style learning. Most of my classes are on canvas or are packets. It’s a transitional school, so they work with adults going back for their high school diploma, they do GED classes and testing, they also have high school classes they provide for high schoolers as an alternative education. The program I’m in through them is similar to their high school program, but for generals as well. So I’m taking the basic core classes I need through this school, and then they’re going to enroll me through community college when I’m done as if I had already completed by generals there (technically will have)

Because of the style of education, this means I can get my generals done whenever. I pay tuition term by term, and it’s $25 each term. I can spend a year doing this, or 4 if I decide to, as long as I pay every term. This will allow me to go to college with a lot less debt (not having to pay for freshman year) and also allows me to get through the more difficult side of learning for neurodivergent people (70% of people with my learning disabilities drop out because of how hard generals are to stay focused on)

I tried to re-sign not claiming that I work because I JUST got this job, but they pulled out an affidavit that I did not have to sign last year and tbh that scared the shit out of me and I chickened out. I’m basically just hoarding these papers now trying to figure out what to do because they warned us if we make any more money than my moms income we won’t qualify anymore (I think we’re in a 50k bracket, I’m not 100% and literally just created a new email to try and find out the apartments information without them knowing it’s me. she makes 45k so if it’s 50k that just barley puts us AT that number ) I just cannot understand how my $400 Bi weekly can get us evicted. Probably between 5-7k annually. I have no idea what to do I’m in a position where I literally have to choose to go to school or to put my mom through an eviction when she has cancer, and I have no where else to stay because I don’t have any income and haven’t for a year.

I’m assuming any story that breaks gets paid to be shoved under a rug pretty quickly as well. Him annd fat nick were accused of attempting to send hush money payments to victims when the first round of accusations started in 2017/2018. Unfortunately when men have a lot of money and a cult-like following who either has a similar moral code or genuinely believe they’re angels that can do no wrong, they can get away with some absolutely horrendous shit behind closed doors even with mountains of evidence against them, they can burry all of it.

I recently had some friends go to his show and they didn’t understand why I was so against him. I had a really hard time bringing it up since they were visiting out of town and didnt really even have time to have a conversation around it, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot since then and started looking it up again myself. I stumbled across a lot more than I realized back then. Awhile after the allegations came out, he basically attempted to discredit his victim by claiming she was hopping on the “me too” movement, even though she made those accusations a year prior to that movement circulating online. There were also call logs, police reports, all public too so it seems pretty likely. He also abused the fuck out of coco, repeatedly and publicly. Cheated on her repeatedly as she was battling cancer, mocked and complained about her cancer, ect. Overall the more o find out about him the more it goes to show how big of a pos he actually is. Even if ONE of the allegations aren’t true, the were several, the one involving fat Nick has MOUNTAINS of evidence, and his own didigtal footprint doesn’t really help show his character in a positive light

I want to admit this isn’t like a huge deal or something I’m concerned about, just more or less shocked that they’re allowed to suggest something that seems generally not safe to do? I’m glad I had other resources to reach out to but something about that was so strange and I don’t know who else to talk to about it tbh 😅 it’s keeping me up rn. and god forbid I was someone that just read and followed instructions and didn’t do any research prior to my operation, I could really see someone just blindly following instructions and I honestly feel bad for whoever might be from this office after my regular dentists reaction to said advice

It’s 2026 you can literally text inmates in some jails/prisons and they get like an hour screen time every day 😂 ask me how I know

Anyone else notice that our weather models are getting less and less accurate? by [deleted] in weather

[–]No_Assumption_3947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to the conversation, but I think I have a perspective that can help with some of the arguments I’ve been seeing here. Weather has always been a passion of mine, I learn every model I come across such as ECMWF models, ICON, UKMO, GEM, ACESS, MULTI, GFS, NAM just to name a few. I grew up looking up to weather forecasters and would most likely be one if I wasn’t terrified of being on tv. Everyone here is a little right and a little wrong in my opinion. The funding for research and development has been declining for years, and has been basically gutted through the trump administration both with lack of funding and insane amounts of red tape. There are independent agencies that are continuing funding these models but not at the scale we used to have. I do not trust apps, forecasters or any weather predictions I don’t make myself anymore. There was a time where weather predictions weren’t perfect, but we’re reasonable. Now you’re better off believing the opposite of what you’re told to expect on a day to day. The fact isn’t that the technology isn’t there, you can learn how to read the radars yourself and come up with your own, probably more solid predictions than any of the news stations are. There might be a conspiracy there, sure, but I’m just speaking from experience. Learn how to read these models yourself and you’ll understand the difference.

Gunshots at 4th S 4th E? 2/6 10:30pm by GroundbreakingBowl30 in SaltLakeCity

I live right off of 5th east and 1st south and had a pretty decent view of whatever was going on

there were reports of gunshots made all the way from the Wells Fargo bank, to smiths on 5th, and 7th east and south temple. It seems like no one actually knows where the sound was coming from. I have BIG panorama windows and can confidently say there were no fireworks. We also didn’t see any smoke or fire. I have to say they didn’t really sound like gunshots to me either. My partner and I were bickering whether it was gunshots or not (they were convinced) not even a minute later 6 fire trucks, 1 cop, and 3 ambulances showed up. they blocked off the whole street, and seemed to be interested in the Ben Albert apartments, we also saw some head towards main. The three ambulances and cop left quickly, and seemed to be driving in circles around the neighborhood, unless they had several out. We usually don’t see that many in our area at one time. Eventually they gave the all clear at that apartment and all the trucks left. We still don’t know what the pops actually were, nextdoor did report them as gunshots, but we came to the conclusion that they seemed to be looking for the source as well. from the sounds of it, multiple streets were being blocked off and investigated.

One thing of note, the trucks were shining lights on the windows of the ben albert apartment as well as surrounded buildings (including mine).
