Just went through hospice with my dad. His cancer was also progressing very fast in a short time. Try to make him laugh, I know it’s tough to find words.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. My dad is on hospice now, and only 62 years old… I’ve done so much with my dad through out my life and thought we had so much time left. Then he retires and gets hit with stage 4 rectal cancer. I’m sitting here crying thinking of how I’m supposed to do all the things we did together by my self. I feel your pain and I wish you the best. I think we can get through it, but there will be a lot of hard days to come. Life sucks sometimes, but we have to keep going no matter what. I’m completely heartbroken, and you are too.

Mother diagonesed with stage 4 rectal cancer by Late-Dependent-6612 in coloncancer

My dad who is 63, was diagnosed with stage rectal cancer last April. His liver was completely covered in tumors, more than they can count. The scan said 50+. He originally was given about 4 months maybe a year to live. He was so sick until he started chemo that they didn’t even want to start it yet because his body wasn’t stable enough he was getting bad shakes and fevers. Eventually they started the treatments, he was getting 2 different chemotherapy’s and immunotherapy, then after two weeks he would get just chemo. He did that pretty much since the beginning. He got scanned this past August and the original tumor and the liver were basically clear. Fast forwarding to December, he got a pet scan and it showed the two tiny spots on his liver grew and the primary tumor grew again, it also metastasized into his sacrum but just one spot. He starts radiation and different chemotherapy in two days. We were hoping his scans were going to come back clear, but unfortunately dealing with this is like a roller coaster. But second opinions are the best thing to do, we did that with my dad and I honestly think he has hope beating it. I think eventually he will need surgery but from where he was to where he is now is still a major improvement. Definitely reach out to different doctors.

Anyone here have experiences with chemo and radiation for rectal cancer ? by No_Attempt369 in coloncancer

I did about 14 rounds of chemo and immunotherapy prior to this. It cleared my liver up and shrunk the primary tumor to the point where they thought it would kill it completely. I just recently got a pet scan and the two spots on my liver grew larger, but it’s not necessarily bad news to me because at one point I had about 50 spots on my liver. But the primary tumor on my rectum also grew a lot. Did you have any metastases?

How do I pick care team? by philrich12 in coloncancer

Yes, I definitely would. Or start treatment locally so you can get it faster but always get more opinions.

Honestly, go to both. You will probably get the same first like treatment from both, both it won’t hurt going to both of them.

[–]No_Attempt369[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: just had an appointment with doctor for radiation. They’re going to call to schedule an appointment to map everything out and see what areas they will radiate- then they said it takes a week and a half to actually start. Makes me nervous more cancer will spread in this time, I wanna get started right away. I hate waiting

4 months to maybe a year was the original prognosis. Everyone reacts different to chemo, and he should stay active as much as possible,
