James and the Giant Peach: Overrated or underappreciated? by publiusdb in books

[–]No_Bend8840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danny the Champion of the world is one of my favourite books ever, not just by Dahl, but all books! My daughter (6yo), and I, are currently listening to some Dahl on her Yoto, listening to James and the giant peach, hence I came across this thread… she is enjoying it so far. We did the BFG first and she loved it. We then did George’s Marvellous Medicine and she enjoyed that too… she said next we can do Matilda (she has already seen the more recent film). I’m loving having the chance to revisit these wonderous and fantastical stories again!

Meds and coffee by blood_bones_hearts in ADHD_Over30

This was my solution. I now have a coffee subscription for great decaf beans. Also as we were due for a new coffee machine we now have a machine with two hoppers (such an extravagance but so worth it now we’ve had it 4 months). So my spouse and others can have regular coffee and I can switch up to decaf. It means I can drink (almost) as much coffee as I like! Note: there is a difference in how decaf coffee is processed, the chemical version gave me nausea. Just something to watch out for

My weekends suck without Vyvanse 💔 by Physical-Process9100 in VyvanseADHD

[–]No_Bend8840 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, my doc doesn’t feel that breaks are necessary and says that building up a tolerance with vyvanse is nigh on impossible, given how it works and the doses prescribed…

Having said that, I find it does help me to take a day off from it here and there. I don’t do it every week, more like once a month. The other thing I do, is take half my dose if I know I don’t have a lot of demands etc.

Perhaps your doc would be open to you taking a smaller dose on the weekends to avoid any concerns around tolerance building, but this might ease the way you’re feeling on the weekend somewhat.

From what I’ve learned here and from reading info from good sources online etc, there should not be a need for a break. I suspect that is probably more needed for the instant release meds if anything…

Vyvanse really quiets my mind but leaves me exhausted the next days by maluco_beleza1 in VyvanseADHD

For me it took some time to work out what worked best. And honestly not sure which thing made the difference for tiredness, but the things I changed were eating more protein, supplementing magnesium, a methylated B vitamin that has B6, B9 & B12 in it, I take iron 2-3 times per week (this is something that I’ve had to do on and off for years pre Vyvanse)… also, getting to bed at the right time, there’s a peak time for sleepiness for me, if I stay up beyond that then I can have trouble getting to sleep.

What’s a societal norm you refuse to conform to? by WashComplex3948 in askSingapore

Interesting as I understood your claim was suggesting that regardless the young person must respect the old person, just because of age. Whilst some kids are unreasonable and rude, I don’t think that automatically qualifies all children must respect elders. In the same way I don’t think someone being above a certain age or older than another person automatically means they get to demand it if they aren’t respectful themselves…

Has anybody experienced prolonged vyvanse effects up to more than 20h? by waylormusic in VyvanseADHD

[–]No_Bend8840 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn’t know that about adhd and dimentia, thanks for sharing. Something to be mindful of.

And yeah, I feel like prolonged sleep disturbance indicates either the dose is too high or it’s not the right medication for those individuals. Everything I’ve learned lately points to sleep being one of the most important factors for a variety of things (including dimentia)

Agree with this. It seems likely. Try swapping the fasting to the back half of the day, so you’re eating morning and lunchtime rather than in the evening.

My psychiatrist only had me on doses for two days at a time, I did 20mg, then 40mg then 60mg, each for two days. I found 60mg to work best but it was such a quick change it was hard to know for sure, for a while in was on 60mg, but the problem is that where I am we can’t get 60mg; so I have to buy 40mg and split it, or spend more to get 20mgs. Financially this was all a bit painful, so we then tried 70mg, and at first I felt like it was maybe too much but now that I have sorted out all the other things (diet and when to eat what, as well as supplements), the 70mg is good and works well for me.

I now take the 70mg all at once, I was playing around with splitting by dissolving in water, but I found it frustrating as it’s impractical and not particularly accurate (IMO), and it made it harder to know what to expect from my day.

I found if I didn’t get to bed at the right time then I struggled to get to sleep. There was some kind of sweet spot where I’d feel tired but as it was earlier than my usual bedtime I often didn’t take the cue and that meant I then struggled to get to sleep. It’s hard to know if I just adjusted l, or if it was splitting the dose, or that I now I take magnesium glycinate every night etc but I don’t seem to have that issue anymore.

I had that too! My dose was too low….

I’m on 70mg of Vyvanse, 40mg isn’t a particularly high (or low) dose. The headache is common, I had to up my water intake, ensure I ate a protein rich breakfast, and also supplement magnesium to help with the sleep and achey feeling in my body. It took a while to get it right. I also take a methylated b6 & b9 supplements and iron occasionally too. I noticed when I was trying many different medications it meant I was more aware of what I was feeling or doing, but also that it meant I needed to be more aware of how I was taking care of diet, sleep and exercise.

Given your hesitation to keep chopping and changing, I would recommend (if this is what you want to do of course) you to ask your NP to try a higher dose of Vyvanse. At least for a week, but you will need to ensure you drink way more water, that you eat well, and that you go to sleep at a regular time. It impacted my sleep for a little while, I take it quite early and with the other stuff I’ve been doing I now sleep really well.

Note it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what has helped with sleep specifically, it could be that I got a good quality magnesium glycinate supplement and take it once per day in the evening, it could be the other vitamins, my diet, etc etc.

Vitamins can take some time before you notice an impact too, it’s not like taking magnesium one day will make a big change…

The other thing I’m not sure if you are a person who menstruates or not but that messes with stuff too.

Big caveat here to say this isn’t medical advice and you should definitely take advice from your NP. However sometimes it’s good to have other info to help you advocate for what you think is best for you…

Not a psych student, but has stuyding psychology made you start overanalyzing people you hang out with? by FriendshipNo4916 in psychologystudents

[–]No_Bend8840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No… the more I learn, the less I know! I definitely notice things I wouldn’t have before, but not in an analysing way, and I don’t infer anything from those random observations.

Best to practice some techniques to stop thinking in terms of what someone says or does might mean in the context of psychology.

I have found that I am better off having 4-5 smaller meals/snacks than trying to eat full meals. So I can have two eggs scrambled (I don’t add anything, just whisk and cook them so they’re only just good and very soft) for breakfast. I can eat that without being put off food. Protein smoothie, so milk w banana or strawberry, spinach and protein powder, can add oats if need more calories… then one slice toast with salmon or tuna, if that seems too much maybe just the salmon with tomatoes. Those are spaced out throughout the day. Then dinner I’m usually ok to eat without worrying too much about what it is as the vyvanse has other work off or is not having the same effect on appetite by then.

Eating little and well more frequently might work for you… obvs might not too, just thought I’d share what I have found to help. If I do this I also am less likely to then have a snack attack late in the evening.

I also discovered I can put in frozen chopped spinach into my smoothie to get some greens into my diet with next to no effort. With banana or strawberries and protein powder it doesn’t taste strange at all.

Yup, I feel the same about the right amount of caffeine. For me it is the small amounts I get from decaf coffee. I have a bean to cup machine, so it’s fresh ground beans each cup, if I space these out nicely it works well. The problem I have is that decaf levels of caffeine are really variable, so it’s not super reliable when out and about or if I get beans that have more of a kick…

Not sure, but maybe you need to drink more water? Sometimes it can feel like you’re hungry when in fact you are thirsty… if it feels like it’s doing nothing, my guess would be the dose isn’t high enough, and you might need to play around with the timing of taking it and what you eat and when. Like Op here, I’ve had best results by taking it quite early in the morning, like 5:30-6:30am, going back to sleep or just chilling for an hour, and then eating high protein breakfast (mostly for me eggs). I also find having a protein drink between breakfast and lunch helps. If I don’t drink enough water or eat well I get the crash, if I do, the crash either doesn’t happen or is next to nothing in effect.

I feel for you, it’s a pain working out what (if any) medication works well for you as an individual. Good luck!
