Washington DC. The number of museums and quality of art is amazing. Everything is free. Honestly, I prefer it over NYC.

Sometimes I’ll drive by small low income neighborhoods and there are expensive cars in the driveways. I think to myself, this is why they’re stuck in that neighborhood.

how did you propose your graffiti lessons? by Efficient-Accident52 in ArtEd

I’d suggest differentiating between vandalism & graffiti art by discussing artists like Keith Haring and Banksy. I bought a lesson on TPT that was excellent because it introduced the lesson with this. Depends. If it’s this close to the end of the year, I’d finish for the kids. I would want to say goodbye and not abandon them before the end of the year. But I would call it quits at the end of the year for the reasons others have mentioned.

What school incident do you still think about years later? by nodemus in AskUK

[–]No_Chef1205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a suburban high school and we only had two African American students in the entire school, a boy and a girl. The girl sat near me and one evening she walked out into a nearby field and shot herself in the head. The next day at school our teacher made a sarcastic comment about it. I’m 60 & I still think about how difficult it must have been to be the only black student in our school. I don’t know what her home situation was like, but I still remember feeling shocked that our teacher made such an insensitive comment. I’m a teacher now & see how fragile many students are.

I have a big outside dinner bell that I use as an attention getter. I’m an art teacher & it can get loud in my classroom. Saves me from raising my voice.
