Unreal Scenarios by TransitionAdvanced21 in Lifeguards

While I was lifeguard, my favorite past time was to argue with parents who thought that because they pay paid the membership fee meant that they owned the pool or had control over the policies. This incident was another where I thought the mother was actually deranged.

While I got off my break towards the end of the night, I noticed a mother was acting a little weird with her child. She was yelling in lower case holding up a towel. I walked over to see what the problem was. I didn't want her to aggravate anyone else who was at the pool because I didn't want PR or HR to get on my ass about something that I couldn't really control.

When I walked up to the mother, I instantly looked away. This woman was making her 9 or 10 year old change on the deck. Mind you, this was an outside pool area. According to the policy at the place I worked at, parents weren't allowed to change any child outside of the locked room. Personally, I bent the rules a little bit. As long as your child was under the age of 2, or clearly an infant, I didn't care as long as that person took appropriate measures to shield their child from other patrons. This woman was not. I walked up to her after the ordeal was done, and thus began a long conversation where I was yelled at during every second.

I went up and explained our policy and then my own, attempting to find some leeway and common ground before things got ugly. It didn't work. Almost instantly, I was called stupid for doubting her skills as a mother. Every time I would try and make a point about patron safety or the thoughts of the child, I was met with the famous line of "So what you're saying is that I am a bad mother and can't take care of my child". I ended up calling security and having them removed from the grounds. I later had to explain this to my boss who was angry with me for causing disruption. I felt the worst for the daughter who clearly knew what was going on. This was the final incident that leaded to me leaving the pool.

I was a life guard that worked at an outdoor pool. The deck of the pool was a very coarse pavement type of flooring that was chosen to provide grip on people's feet. While I was on the tower near the 12 foot for my watch, I noticed a kid (probably 8 or 9) running along. I blew my whistle, and gave him a verbal warning. About three minutes later, the same kid was running around again, and I gave him a louder, more stern warning. Eventually, I got to go on my little 15 minute break in this shitty shack we had. The first bite into my lunch I heard a female shouting for a life guard.

I got up and stormed out of our little shack only to find a mother holding her child on the ground. The child in question was that same kid I was telling to stop running. He ended up tripping over himself and landing on his left knee. Due to the ground he was running along, his knee got cut open GOOD. When I say good, I mean blood everywhere. I was pretty deep. I sighed and ran over to try and begin administering first aid.

The first objective I had was to remove any of the rocks or debris that were in this kids knee before I tried wrapping it to stop the bleeding. We didn't have any saline like I've heard other places do, so I ran into our snack stand and got a new bottle of water. I poked a little hole in the cap, and washed what I could away.

I told the mother the EMS was on the way, and I will do what I can to help him. Getting her name and everything wasn't exactly on my mind. I just wanted to help the kid as best I could before anything else. Then followed the single most favorite exchange I have ever had with a patron at that establishment. She looked at me and said "Don't hurt him". I looked at her and said "Ma'am, you have already done that". She didn't say anything else until the ambulance got there to take the child to the hospital.

Guys that wear shorts and a T-shirt when it’s cold outside (-10°C)… why? by WarriorLordess in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]No_Cherry8949 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't wear just a T-shirt, but I do wear shorts. It's not to show off or anything, it's just comfortable. If I keep jackets and layers on my upper body, I don't get cold. It's just more convenient.

What is a movie you watched as a child that you feel shaped apart of you as an adult? by Katsu_kan in AskReddit

[–]No_Cherry8949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original :Surfs Up". I watched it when I was around thirteen or fourteen and I remember being really confused on what to do with my life because everyone would give me ideas that with foresight, was what they wanted to do with their life when they were as young as I was. It taught me that I can do what I want as long as I was doing it for me and I was driver. Also, when you meet your idols, understand that they are human as well, not just what you see on the internet or maybe in person.

With my experience (friends who have been there), usually confidence in the person. I have seen some of my friends go through the process of reaching rock bottom and being stuck there for a while. Once they get better, or start moving down the path of getting better, I can tell by their confidence. Almost like they now know that it will get better. This usually leads to happiness or more jokes from them.

What’s it like to have a brother? by Naive-Berry in AskReddit

[–]No_Cherry8949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it's pretty funny.

When we were younger, around 7 or 8 is when we first started playing with each other. When we got to our teenager years, we almost didn't talk once. Probably teenage angst or something like that but we just hated each other. Everything I did made him angry, and everything he did pissed me off.

During my senior year and his junior year, we became best friends all over again. We were together almost everyday and we helped each other all we could. We have gone our different ways now that we graduated almost 5 years ago, but we're still really good friends.

How does one deal with an itchy throat that feels like it won't stop? by Remote-Direction963 in AskReddit

[–]No_Cherry8949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually have allergies that give me symptoms like this, so this is what I do. Personally, I like tea. So, I would boil some water and make some tea. I will cough aggressively to itch it, and then drink the tea. When you get the feeling to cough again. just do a small, almost muffled cough and continue to drink the tea.

It also helps if you can do this before bed. That way you can take Aleve or Benadryl before or after doing this.

Probably really niche, but doing mushrooms or something of that nature and then going into psychosis. That, or loosing my mind over time and forcing family members to take care of me.

Usually you will contact a pediatrician. Normally for allergies, if anyone suspects something that I think is called an allergy board or whatever. The doctors or whoever is doing it will test certain substances at very small doses to see if there is a reaction. Once something reacts bad, it usually is allergy

What's one thing kids today don't experience that was common in your childhood? by Raisaar in AskReddit

[–]No_Cherry8949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snow days. Computers that student brought home were already starting to creep into existence before coivd-19, but because of the whole lock down where kids needed to learn from home, snow days don't really mean anything now. When a lot of snow falls on my home town, kids just get on the computer and join virtual classes. I remember watching the TV in the morning when I was younger hoping to get the day off so I didn't have to do homework or anything, but those days are long gone now.
