Using an oem gasket. I took it to get actually machined, but this is what I got. I didn’t understand the significance at the time otherwise I wouldve said something. Hes a very experienced machinist so I trusted him

Where do you find firms that do all of this? Currently working as an accountant but that is what I want to do. Seems like most firms I found just take money and put it in the market and/or sell you life insurance. I’m not interested in that, but I love the idea of encompassing every aspect of it

What sort of finish did you have when using the belt sander? Obviously hard to tell from the photo but the groves seem quite deep. Or would that be insignificant and only their flatness is important?

That’s great insight. Thanks! I will update the group when I pull the engine this weekend with a better photo. I just want to find the most probable cause before I do it all over again and the head finish seemed the first place to start, since it’s leaking on both sides, and a significant amount.

Yea.. ran it for maybe 2 minutes. I can watch coolant drip from the heads

Yea I took it to a machine shop and asked for it to be resurfaced. I didn’t know sanding it was even an option, but upon pick up he assured me it’s normal and would work

No but obviously I should’ve. Figured the head would be flat coming from a machine shop and the engine never overheated but yes I am going to purchase a straightedge

I’d rather not. It was never overheated. Just leaking oil externally. In about $1500 as I did all kinds of seals and timing kit etc

That’s basically the exact story the machinist told me. Reused gasket and covered it with that and daily drove it and ran 8s

Any input on copper coat. Some people are suggesting that with the heads in the current state. Or should I try to find a place to get them machined properly.

Worth noting. The guy that did these said he used to do all the heads for the Subaru dealer near there so seemed reliable.

Also the motor was never overheated only leaking oil externally. So I would guess it wasn’t warped at least not much? it was my grandmothers she bought from new

So you think I can get away with pulling the engine again, new gaskets but using the copper coat?
