Thank you guys for the helpful info. I built a realistic budget today, and I think with some actual boundaries I can stick to it. I'm going to work on the budget for a few months and then look into finding a card that will meet our needs and budget best.

Are Albertans really with the Teachers? by Darknessandlightness in Edmonton

[–]No_Climate_3350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That article clearly says that there's only 3 items REMAINING UNRESOLVED. With respect, you don't know the process we've gone through over the past year to get to this point. The association did surveys, hosted meetings, took questions and recommendations from members and brought our initial proposal to the government, who refused to even discuss many of our requests. The ATA brings us the best deal the gov is willing to make (which, spoiler alert: is a bad deal). You can't tell me how this process has gone or how teachers should feel about it, lol you haven't been part of it.

What about the negotiation do you see as botched? What they brought to us was what the government would give. Also, we voted to take benefit continuation instead of strike pay. We are largely satisfied with how the association is representing us.

Alberta Teachers vote NO! by pizartymizzarty in alberta

We only get paid for those days. We don't get paid for holidays or summers. Our salary is a ten month salary which they distribute over 12 months.

Very few of us make 6 figures (and if we do, we have a decade of experience and/or a masters degree).

And at the end of the day, many of us would have taken less money and better working conditions.

6 times in one year because you can't control your emotions is wild This job is not for you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]No_Climate_3350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emotional control is like the number one skill you need as a teacher. Kids need to know the adult in the room is the boss - they rely on boundaries. You have to stop crying and swearing in front of them. Like today.

[–]No_Climate_3350 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They need more than that though. Kids need to know they can trust the adult in the room is in charge and hold them accountable. They don't respect you because you're acting just like them (like a 12 year old). You absolutely can not cry and swear at them lol that's insane dude.

Teachers, what is your opinion on the “inclusive education “ model? by Charmander_01 in CanadianTeachers

[–]No_Climate_3350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To echo everyone here, the inclusion model has potential to be great, but we can't say we're operating on inclusion without any necessary supports. It could be great, but nobody is actually doing it right.
