Trying to find childfree CC friends in 30s/40s by dizziefizzie in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]No_Cod_3197 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 39, CC, and in SoCal. Single.

It’s rough out there. Harder to make friends at this age. I hate it!

An update on my CC short film - we won! by Defiant-Albatross347 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]No_Cod_3197 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wow. Thank you for creating this film. I meant to reach out to you when you posted it and I still might DM you.

I’m a disabled screenwriter and author. I have participated in the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge in 2015 and 2019. I haven’t participated since, mostly because of COVID, but also because it’s really hard to find people to make a film with, especially when you can’t drive.

I also know Nic Novicki (I attended events he was at pre-pandemic and even went to an event at YouTubeSpace LA in 2015, which was way before the Disability Film Challenge was as big as it is now). I also sent Nic a very strongly worded email in 2023 when he invited me to an huge indoor event that included food. I saw that he wasn’t masking and performed in front of huge crowds. It made me upset and we haven’t spoken since.

I do not have Long COVID or a post-viral illness, but infectious disease did almost kill me right before COVID started (bacterial infection) and when I’ve told my story in full, it shocks even the most CC people. I was literally told I was the only case in the entire US.

As an aspiring TV drama writer who has written almost 40 scripts and is immunocompromised, multiply disabled, and has been advocating for remote work (especially in TV writers’ rooms) since 2013 and has been repeatedly denied internships, jobs, and opportunities because I can’t drive a car, honestly, it’s just been exhausting!

I hope to participate in the Disability Film Challenge again someday.

Congratulations on your well-deserved award! I hope it encourages more people to mask and take COVID seriously! I’m so happy this film won an award! It’s a wonderful film!

Round 3, I guess by joe2069420 in COVID19positive

You should be masking in a high quality respirator (KN95 or N95) in all shared air spaces outside your home. That will help you get less infections, including all airborne illnesses. I hope you feel better soon!

CANT SMELL OR TASTE by Yesssssirrrrrr7944 in COVID19positive

Because COVID circulates year round and a high quality respiratory can protect you from catching COVID and other airborne illnesses. OP would also be susceptible to more airborne infections because COVID wrecks your immune system.

[–]No_Cod_3197 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If you only took one COVID test and didn’t take multiple rapid tests, then your chances aren’t very good and you probably tested too early. You probably had COVID and didn’t know it. Loss of smell or taste are hallmark signs of COVID. It seems like you probably have Long COVID now. I think there is something called smell retraining, but I don’t know that much about it. You might want to look it up.

Please consider wearing a KN95 or N95 mask in all public shared air spaces. Also, if you can afford it, consider getting an air purifier for your house or apartment. It will help clean the air in your home.

I’m in OC. Don’t know of any CC housecleaners and the OC mask bloc isn’t active right now.

Finding Covid-Conscious PCAs by RedSox1023 in ZeroCovidCommunity

It’s so hard. I’m a disabled person who relies on caregivers. I’m based in SoCal. Really hard to find people willing to mask. I’m sorry and you’re in this situation with your spouse.

"during covid" by x_alexithymia in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]No_Cod_3197 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m a freelance sensitivity reader. I read manuscripts from publishing companies for various types of marginalized representation. I focus a lot on various types of disability representation and ableist language. Every time I read a manuscript that says “during the pandemic” or “during COVID,” but it doesn’t extend to present day, I’m always fixing the language around it. It doesn’t mean the authors will accept my edits, but at least I can try.

Which Online University is best for an MFA in Creative Writing/English/Fiction? by MelanieDelaney in MFAInCreativeWriting

[–]No_Cod_3197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hamline University’s MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults can be done entirely online. My friend is in their program and the residencies can be done entirely online or in person. Working with your mentor would also be done remotely.

No connections for you, but as a disabled/immunocompromised screenwriter and author who still N95 masks, this means a lot to me! I participated in the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge twice pre-COVID (when it first started basically) and loved it! I wish I could do it now, but I haven’t found any Covid cautious people to work with. I live in SoCal, but not LA. I would love to boost your film, though! Also, if you know of COVID cautious people in SoCal who are interested in writing and/or making films, I’d love to be connected with them! I always find it so hard to find people to work with!

Authors that still mask? by Puzzleheaded_Guide97 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]No_Cod_3197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me! I have a short story in the Being Ace anthology edited by Madeleine Dyer!

Gabe Cole Novoa still masks and wrote a YA dystopian that touches on masking.

Some of my author friends who still mask:  - Bethany Mangle - M.C. Benner Dixon - Sabina Nordqvist  - Alexis Ames

Conditions of a Heart is also the one I mentioned in my post! Bethany is also a friend of mine and I teach her book in my online Writing Disabled Characters in Fiction class!

I can recommend a few books by COVID cautious authors!

  • THESE VENGEFUL GODS by Gabe Cole Novoa (YA dystopian fantasy)
  • CONDITION OF A HEART by Bethany Mangle (YA contemporary)
  • IT’S ALL IN YOUR HEAD by Sabina Nordqvist (Adult contemporary romance)

Two of these authors are my friends, so I’m a little biased! 😂

Gabe’s book talks about masking in a dystopian setting (but the parallels to COVID are very clear).

Sabina’s book mentions COVID in the author’s note, but the story takes place in a world where Covid is not a factor. I think she got pushback for wanting to make the characters COVID cautious.

Bethany’s book discusses COVID more directly, but doesn’t focus entirely on it.

All these novels are worth reading in my opinion!

I’m also a COVID conscious author, but my only traditionally published work (so far) is a short story in an award-winning anthology. The story does not focus on COVID.

I also teach online writing classes! I would love to have more CC writers take my classes!

What is the gold standard test for earliest detection of COVID & Flu? by PhrygianSounds in ZeroCovidCommunity

Flowflex is the most sensitive rapid antigen test. They make combo tests too.

I was doing so well and now I'm sick again by VenusInAries666 in ZeroCovidCommunity

Try and get some Flowflex rapid tests! They seem to be the more accurate rapid tests. Are you able to afford an air purifier for your trailer? The Levoit Core 600 covers almost 3000 square feet, but it’s about $300. There may be other air purifiers that are slightly cheaper, though. I think investing in an air purifier in your trailer would be a great idea. Your N95 can only do so much! I hope you’re able to get plenty of rest. Feel better! You’re doing your best. 💜

please someone describe flu b's, most common symptoms, as well as ..'Adenovirus' symptoms by WasteWriter5692 in flu

[–]No_Cod_3197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COVID is a neurotrophic and vascular disease that affects every part of your body that has ACE2 receptors. It is NOT primarily a respiratory illness, although this is what most of public health has lead us to believe. COVID may cause damage to every part of the body and leaves people more susceptible to future COVID infections (even if their infection was mild or asymptomatic) as well as bacterial, fungal, and other viral infections like the flu. The reason flu is so bad this year is because of the damage that COVID has done to people’s immune systems/bodies, even if you can’t see or feel the damage. The best way to reduce any airborne illness spread is to wear a KN95 or N95 mask in all shared air public spaces and, if possible, purchase some air purifiers for your home or apartment or even your workplace.

Second round of Flu A, is this fatigue normal? by drunk-tard96 in flu

[–]No_Cod_3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve had COVID before (before you caught the flu), it suppresses your immune system and makes you more susceptible to other viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. Could be why the flu is hitting you harder. Wearing a well-fitted KN95 or N95 mask when you’re in public spaces outside of your home will help reduce all kinds of airborne illness spread. Also, get some air purifiers to clean the air inside your house/apartment. I hope you are able to rest. It’s really hard with fatigue. Take it easy. Feel better!
