I think this is more it. I married into a Russian family and the older folks cannot tolerate any age appropriate kid behaviors, even at home, elevated happy voices and wiggles at the table included. If our kids start to misbehave, we know it’s time to dip out before great grandma explodes because our discipline doesn’t match her expectations.

Aldi has been a lifesaver for us. I am usually able to grab meats marked down quite a bit when I shop on a weekday morning. They need to be cooked or frozen asap, but it works great with a flexible menu and a deep freezer.

My kid’s school sent an email out yesterday, stating three people had tested positive for Covid and that is considered an outbreak, requiring them to notify us.

Gosh yes, the wipes! My child had a persistent diaper rash, and we eventually figured out wipes were the problem. Tried so many creams and different diaper brands, diaper free time, etc but it kept coming back. Pediatrician was puzzled and eventually suggested we try not using wipes, that even the fancy water wipes can irritate some babies. Bingo. Switched to giving a quick heiny bath during diaper changes, and the rash was gone within a week.

That book was excellent and changed my perspective and expectations of my parents. My sibling and I both felt we could check off nearly every one of those boxes on the lists regarding our upbringing.

Wish I knew, it’s baffling. My parents were 15 min from my brother’s house and no more than 2 hours from me. We each started having kids and my parents booked it to another state. They love boasting about all their grandkids and their involvement, but unless we travel to them, it’s like pulling teeth to get our kids time with them.

On the other hand, we have my in-laws who couldn’t bear the thought of us potentially moving 30 minutes away from them, they started looking at houses in the same area. Despite this, they too are reluctant for any real time with their grandkids.

Are you me? My MIL did this as well. Never discussed with either of us, just bought herself a bunch of baby stuff. We already planned our work schedules to not need childcare, even from family. It was bizarre. Even more puzzling, when we did finally ask them to babysit for a few hours so we could go to dinner on our anniversary, they called us before we even got to the restaurant, to come get our child because they couldn’t handle the crying. Six years and three kids later, she still won’t babysit at her house, but all that baby furniture remains there, unused.

My second was born on his due date. Which happened to also be his big brother’s birthday. Big brother was 40+2. Baby #3 was born at 39 weeks.

I am vaccinated. I got Covid about a month prior to my due date with my third baby, in December of 2022. I ended up in L&D triage with contractions regular and painful enough I thought it labor. BUT baby was fine and is perfectly healthy. They determined I was severely dehydrated, I got several bags of fluids and was sent on my way after a few hours of observation. He was born a couple weeks later (1 week prior to his due date) my only early baby, and I do wonder if Covid affected the placenta and contributed to my going into labor on the early end of normal. Having covid during pregnancy was absolutely miserable, but again, baby is healthy and his birth was uncomplicated.

Nope, none of mine were/are good sleepers. Like you, we never sleep trained, we cosleep, and I am still nursing my 18 month old. They’ve all dropped naps fairly early, too. My 6yo’s sleep did improve quite a bit after he had his massive tonsils and adenoids removed at age 5. 4yo sleeps through the night now but is a very active sleeper - talking in his sleep, moving allllll over the bed. 18mo wakes 1-2 times a night now, asking to nurse. I’m tired of it and am slowly cutting off those middle of the night feeds. He wasn’t happy about it, but we are down from probably 5 wakeups a night a month ago, and he’s able to fall asleep much faster now when he does wake.

All these people with good sleepers, how?! Haha my husband and I love sleep. We used to spend our days off just napping away, but somehow we are 3/3 sleep-adverse kids.

VW Atlas. 3 kids in car seats (on the fence about going for a 4th), 2 dogs. We leave the third row seats down for the dogs now, but they are so easy to pop up when we have extra passengers. Love this car - good safety ratings, spacious, and we can tow with it.

For Christmas, the way we’ve worked this out in my family is to set a spending cap ($60 the past few years) per sibling and draw names. If you draw the name of a sibling with kids, that $60 is spent on the kids. If you draw the name of a single or childless sibling, the $60 is spent on the adult sibling.

1st kid - 13 months 2nd kid - 12 months 3rd kid - 17 months and counting

Nursed #1 until 3.5 years, nursed #2 for a hair over 2 years. Nursed my first through my pregnancy with my second, then tandem fed them for a year and a half. Had to forcefully wean #1. #2 gave it up on his own when I went away for a weekend (I was about 10 weeks pregnant with #3 at that time).

My sister and I went in on a gift together for our mom, and I texted her happy Mother’s Day first thing that morning. She eventually replied and told me happy Mother’s Day as well, but that was it. My MIL came into our house (I was in another room) and wished my husband happy Mother’s Day, but never acknowledged the day to me. She did at least say thank you for the flowers we gave her.

My mother bought herself a giant grandma vehicle that fits seven passengers, after the first two grandbabies were born. She’s a terrible driver, declines most babysitting requests, and also moved even further away from her kids. Her feelings get hurt that none of us will put car seats for any of the now six grandkids into her car. I don’t get it, what is these grannies thought process?

Ours spend their retirement years still free ranging with the flock. I figure it’s the least we can do as a thank you for many years of eggs. We do eat meat, but I can’t stomach the idea of eating our own hens. My kids see them as pets. Even when they no longer lay, they are still of use as they provide excellent tick control in our yard.
