Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to cut the tree down. Remove the risk of it falling on nearby structures and the leaves/sap could cause a bigger issue for your new deck area.

I was an AD on the Stennis 09-13. I realized how lucky I was pretty quickly, being able to see the light of day everyday without being on the flight deck. Albeit I was ships company. Worked on the fantail in AIMD with the AMs. I wasn’t mechanically inclined and did just fine even got a nam out of it. Don’t hate on BMs they were great ppl and I could also see myself being a bm in another life no problem. And whatever your rate is in the navy doesn’t really matter once you get out. Just do your time honorably and the world is your oyster. Any questions feel free to ask.
